>Welcome to OZ< Years after the Love Machine fiasco, the people of OZ had settled down a bit. Only a bit, mind you, as the world's largest online community was prone to everyday gossip and mindless drama. But those who knew how to avoid those bits, were able to find enjoyment in other places. There came the new fad of Koi Koi being taught across the globe. Soon, it was a national passtime in Japan, Germany and even America! This did NOT however, mean that the obsession with fighting games died down. In fact, ever since Love Machine wiped the floor with the world's greatest online fighter, OZ had been adrift with people signing up and mastering the combat sections of OZ's seedy underbelly. This, of course, meant that King Kazma had become an overnight sensation. Even more so, really. Which meant, to Ikezawa Kazuma, more fanmail, more annoying stalkers, and a LOT more fighting. But the funnest part of his year, no doubt about it, was the annual Love Machine Tournament. Once every year, on the anniversary of the week Love Machine took down the internet, he got to fight. Hundreds of thousands of people took part in the tournament. Lucky for most, it wasn't JUST a fighting tournament. Somehow, Koiso Kenji had rigged it that at the start of the tournament each year, 'Love Machine' would show up again, in his tiny mousey form. He would set up a clock, with that hissing giggle of his, and set a challenge. This year, that challenge was a massive scavenger hunt. Of course, the objects were always within the combat zones, which meant that people could FIGHT over them. Just Kazuma's kind of game. He tried not to stomp the newbies TOO badly... Then again, there was always at least ONE person who made his year worthwhile. The best challengers appeared after Love Machine's clock started up, and this, THIS was the best fight of the year. Slamming the keys faster than ever, having taken an extra typing class, which had upped his typing to close to ninety words per minute, he unleashed awesome moves his Sensei had taught him over the summer. Spinning roundhouse, a backhanded fist to the side of the avvie's head, another spin, but this time head over heel, using the variable gravity of OZ to flip him around, the heel of his rabbit's foot slamming into the top of the male avatar's head, silve hair flowing as the humanoid construct spun backwards into some obstacles.

Love machine almost ended the world. It was a scary thought, but hundreds of thousands of people online watched the true battle that saved the world from the nuclear explosion. It wasn't until a few years later that the reality of what Lover Machine planned to do was revealed. Ironically, the annual Love Machine tournament was something created by King Kazuma, who since the fall of Love Machine had become the best gamer in Oz. it wasn't all that surprising, but it was still pretty badass. People around the world challenged him, but no one had been able to take his crown. And, yeah, the creators of Oz gave both Natsuki and King Kazuma special privileges for helping to stop King Kazuma. And there was also a rumor that the math genius married the Natsuki chick last year and they creator of Oz had taken him on as his head director of operations or something like that. But Oz was like the internet, you know, back when the internet was cool--in the stone ages, so the rumors flew fast. It was after King Kazuma's victory that Ares was created. Ares was a silver-haired humanoid that was created for fighting. Although the animal-like AVs learned fighting with more ease, humanoids had other advantages over them. It was a balancing system that gave certain Battle Avatars perks over others. Snakes could more easily learn to poison those they battled with, rabbits were faster, and so on. It was all this huge balance of what you wanted. Humans could become stronger faster, and they had more endurance. But they were slower, due to muscle, so they required more agility training. It had taken years, but Ares had become somewhat of a god of War on Oz. He had entered the Love Machine tournament a few times, and his very first year playing, he faced off with King Kazuma, but due to the power and significantly more experience, the outcome was rather obvious. The two years following, Ares didn't enter. The first year because Xerxes, the controller of Ares, was in the hospital after getting his leg broken playing soccer. Oh year, it was manly injury. The second year, he'd missed it and never explained why. Some people started rumors it was because he was afraid to fight king Kazuma again, but those were quickly resolved when he entered the third year. He made it to the finals again, and once again, he lost to King Kazuma, but this time, the King was badly damaged enough that he was unable to battle for five hours: the needed time to restore his health and mana from a battle as powerful as they had. And this year, Ares was going to win. Xerxes was certain of it. A scavenger hunt? Oh... how stupid. That was so fucking kidish. Leave it to a fucking Rabbit to make this into an Easter egg hunt. Apparently skill went out the window this year. Were they really that bored Free for all: get certain weapons, power-ups, maps, and whatever else, and you could enter. Ugh. It was disgusting. But whatever. Xerxes was on his state of the art computer, which had two screens. He had multiple windows open, so he could lock the more powerful items away once he got them, and prevent others from getting them. It wasn't against the rules, and he had a few items he wanted. He didn't plan on using them, but in Oz you could break down items and use them to make new items. There were a few of these weapons that would make Ares amazing armor. And Xerxes was planning something for the final battle with King Kazuma. He was going to unveil it in the final battle. His screen flashed red when he was struck and he flipped Ares around. "Kazuma!" He yelled, pissed that they were clashing so soon. This was going to take all the fun out of it. Ares flew backwards and slammed into another AV, and he grabbed the weapon from their hand, considering he was of a much lower level. (Since Love Machine, the fighting system was updated and much more effort was put into it.) A grin met his lips and he watched Kazuma take the item that was rightfully his. But it wasn't that important. He just wanted it for the sake of selling it, so he wasn't too insistent on having it. Xerxes was always one to pick his battle rather than rushing into one. So, he started to fight someone for a metal framed weapon he needed. Once he got it, his brother rushed into his room and he hit F9. This button was a control in the game that would freeze an AV in the battle zone. They were unable to move and were see through, meaning that the character had been locked, and therefore could not be killed. It was like a built in time out, in case something happened. And, within about a minute of Ares time out, he signed out of Oz, complaining that he had to deal with some family shit. He'd be back later, even if there was nothing remaining that had any sort of commencement value.

In the end, Ares, who had been one of the few interesting fighters of this and previous contests, timed out, and then left. It was very, very anticlimactic to tell the truth. Kazuma was not impressed. The end of the tournament for the day, ended with King Kazma on top of the pile, and with the best equipment.
It was a typical night. Kazuma signed off, and headed to his door, picking up the tray of food his mother had left for him. He wondered when the last time he actually spoke to her was... She was a very sweet woman, and he loved her, don't get him wrong. But since he refused to leave his bedroom, and she spent more time focussing on his little sister, it just... kinda wasn't the same anymore.
He sighed, picking up a fishstick and letting it sit in his mouth, the bowl of rice a little cooled, which was a little less appetising. That was the problem with his life, he supposed. Nothing was perfect. He still had to work at his lessons, since OZ was so conducive to taking care of even Hikikomori, but truthfully, it was annoying so he did them like... Once a week. Unless Sensei was around, in which case, he did the next three weeks lessons in one or two days, just to have time to spend with his sensei.
Of course, after his middle school years, Sensei wasn't able to come around very much. He'd kinda retired from his fishing business, and had since found that his health wasn't nearly as good as he'd thought. Yet another reason the world was trash to Kazuma.

About twenty minutes after Ares left, a winged Tortoise Av signed on. This one was known well in the battle arena, despite the fact he never fought. He sold. He traded battle coding for characters for either high priced items, or charged for them. The battle codes were rather simple. Oz had default hot keys that allowed martial arts in any country. You could power up and earn new moves and items, but if you wanted specialized coding, you had to purchase it from certified Oz programmers. Mercury, as he was called, was one such seller. oz took 6% of his sales, and that was the end of their alliance. As long as the code was up to par, there was no draw backs for anyone.
As soon as Mercury entered the battle zone, sell mode activated. He was selling battle Marcos for some of the items won in the battle arena. Obviously, some was worth more than others. He was also offering minor cash incentives for other things, but for the most part, the high price items were worth cash exchanges, or battle and attack upgrades. He even offered to make customized attacks for those who offered.
Xerxes brother, Darius, was afraid of everything. And it wasn't a joke either, he was literally afraid of everything. He was skittish and easily over stimulated. And Xerxes was trying to adjust him to get him over this fear. The boy was only 5 years his junior, and would soon be entering middle school. And Xerxes wasn't going to let his brother be teased for both his shyness and how easily he was startled.
"I don't want to go to the grocery store!" Darius whined, because seriously, who the hell wanted to go?
Xerxes rolled his eyes. When he was a kid, he didn't have a choice. If his parents said they were going somewhere, he was going or his ass was getting beat. This kid wasn't punished at all, but considering his constant fear, it was most likely a good thing. "Yeah, but there's a video game store near the grocery store.." He tried to find a reason for the other to go.
"I don't care. You have almost all of those video games. And I could just buy them on Oz!"
"You don't get the little chocolate cookies you like if you don't go to the store," Kallias, both Xerxes and Darius' older sister cooed, which made the boy smile up at her and nod slightly. "Otherwise mama won't know what to buy."
Darius perked up at the idea. "You're coming with us right?"
Kallias shook her head, long brunette curls bounding around her face. "Nope. I have to go pay my car insurance and then get a new phone. But I'll be home for dinner."
Darius looked saddened at this, but perked up when Xerxes picked him up. "Come on Kiddo, we got some cookies to sneak into the shopping cart." He carried the boy out to the car and put him in the backseat.
"Hey... Xerxes?" he mumbled. "Do you think that I'll ever be as brave as you?"
Xerxes watched him. "What do you mean?"
"Ma says that you're really strong, because it's hard for guys to be like you are. And that you're a really strong person to deal with what you have to everyday. That just loving someone hurts."
"Did she tell you that?" Xerxes was irritated with his mother going on about his love life in front of a 12 year old. And yes, he could carry a twelve year old, sort of, anyway.
"No, she was talking to baba." {Greek way of saying Dad.}
Xerxes smiled. "Yeah, I think you can be strong like me one way, I just think we have to find something that makes you want to be brave."

Surfing more of OZ, on a less conspicuous version of Kazma, he managed to find a few interesting things online. It kept him busy enough that he passed most of the night in silence. As the sun rose, and the rest of his family was rising, Kazuma slipped away from his laptop, closing it for the day, and crawled under the immaculate futon left out by, again, his ever doting mother.
He fell asleep to the sounds of her and his toddler sister mucking around in the kitchen. Their laughter made his dreams pleasant. Dreams of worlds in which he flew, and the world spun around trees of gold. Worlds filled with rabbits that chased badguys.
"OOMPH!" He woke, however, when his four year old sister, who had no sense of personal space, decided to plop down right on his stomach. Looking up, he saw her hair done in ridiculously adorable pigtails, grinning with one tooth missing. She looked like a little giggling, drooling angel. He sighed, rolling onto his side, which took her into the fluffy blanket covering him. He smiled, a bit of dark amusement that she laughed when he'd been sure her head would slam into the floor.
That cruel thought however, made him sit up, looking at her. "Mai-chan... Onii-chan was sleeping..." He mumbled to her tiredly. Kumai, however, didn't bother listening, snuggling next to her big brother, grinning.
"Mai-mai wanna snuggle with onii-chan!" She chirped, voice just as cute as her face, and who was Kazuma to deny her. He tugged her under the covers, carefully pulling them around them both, and wrapping her under his arm. She wiggled a lot, so he couldn't sleep deeply... But it was nice, and warm.
He supposed Kumai could stay... Even if she WAS a simpering baby.

Xerxes was livid. Of all the people that sold him things, none of them sold him the final item he needed, and after asking a shit ton of questions and poking around in the game logs, he found that King Kazuma had the metal pot that he needed to finish what he wanted to make. And god damn it! He didn't want to ask the kid for anything. They could always fight over it, but that would ruin King Kazuma's fall later in the game. Damn it... there HAD to be something. So, he had to suck it up.
He opened Oz and sent King Kazuma a message under Mercury's name, not realizing what account he was using. "Hey, you have the Magic Silver Pot, I need it for something. Can I buy it off you?" The pot was worthless, for the most part. It could be used my witches, and in battle, for those who used various potions, or made them for healing or for various other things. So... he hoped that Kazuma would just give it to him for something of various worth.
Mercury was famous in the battle arena. He was considered the "best trainer" in all of Oz, because any one of his fighting programs could take a dumbass and make them a decent fighter, assuming they had typing skills. However, Mercury would only make good programs for high level and worthwhile fighters.

Night came, and Kazuma woke. Again, there was a plate of dinner, still hot, at his door, and his mother was watching TV with his father on the couch. He could hear the local news playing in the background, some jacked up traffic in another province.
He opened his laptop, signing on to OZ. Signing on was like a religious experience to him... which was strange, since he'd long since stopped going to shrines or listening to sermons. He didn't visit the churches in OZ, didn't really care for religion. The gods weren't real, and there was no point in actually praying.
The messages from his fans were like meditation, as he typed out quick, brutal replies to each one. They were used to the King of the martial arts world being very blunt. After answering about twenty, he ran into one from someone almost as infamous as himself. Mercury, the Trader.
Kazuma, himself, always considered macros to be a form of cheating. If you knew the moves, REALLY knew them, then it didn't matter what macro the opponent had. You had the instinct, the raw muscle necessary to dodge, to hit, to win. It was a matter of training your body and mind, not of how fast you could type, or what macros you'd bought.
So he quickly replied, an easy reply. "When you come to me with something I want, I'll trade. Until then, No."
There. Let him stew on that. After all, it wasn't as if he could condone that kind of thing. He was one of the few fighters in the world who fought without any kind of enhancements. And he was the best.
Sending the reply, he went on to check the rest of his fans, and a few of the forums he posted to on occasion. Damn... They wanted another training video... He sighed. It was just a whim, once, he'd placed a camera to show his Sensei training, and used it to train himself, and he ended up posting it online when someone asked how he'd learned.
He sighed, looking away from his computer. Standing, he opened the sliding window, letting in some fresh air, and looking at the stars. He should probably go outside... A little recycled sunlight would be good for him...
But he didn't bother, just watching the moon for a while, until OZ popped up another message.

Xerxes was not satisfied with that answer, and instead of trying to be nice, he expoded.
"You fucking asshole. You think you're awesome because you're the "best"? Yeah, people admire you because you're strong and you helped with Love Machine, but You LOST to him. HE BEAT YOU. they call you a hero and it's all bull-fucking-shit. You won't give a useless item for anything? Really? I offered to pay you for it in real money. And that's not good enough for you? What the fuck? Do you want me to proclaim your awesomeness. You've spoken out about my macros, and you don't want it. That's not what I was offering. So you want to know what, forget it. I don't need shit from you. I'd rather reject the job than kiss your stupid ass. Goodnight, your highness."
Xerxes was too pissed off to stay online so he stormed out of his room. He went downstairs and started to look for something to eat. He made a cheese burger, and then made three more. He always ate a lot when he was angry, and it was always fatty. His mother made a comment that he was going to get sick. She also wasn't too pleased that he went and made himself a large meal before she made dinner. But he just made something to eat and went outside. He sat down at the picnic table outside, hearing the sliding glass for behind him.
"Kali, seriously, go away." He mumbled angrily.
A soft knock came on Kazuma's door. "Kazuma?" Kiyomi whispered. "May I come inside?" It had been five days since she had seen her son, and that really bothered her.

Bare feet covered the ground between her and her brother, and Kallias wasn't surprised to see grease covered hands and an angry scowl on his sweet brother's face. A true greek, the male had a strong nose, good cheekbones. She knew he could be a model, if he wanted to, but like herself, he had bigger plans.
Sitting at the table next to him, she leaned on one arm, wrapping the other around the bent elbow. "So... Gonna tell me what's wrong? Like the floods of the nile, I'm not going away, little brother." She chirped, smiling.
The hikikomori turned, looking at his door. His mother should be with his father. It was one of the few nights he'd come home from work on time. He frowned, looking at the door, before going to sit in front of his computer. Great, two annoyances at once...
He wondered for a moment if he should even bother replying to the email, when it shoved a thorn into the festering open wound of four years ago. It was a sore subject, and Kazuma HATED that he'd lost...
His reply was short and succinct. "I meant another item in trade. Beleive whatever you want." That was it. That was all he could bear to write.
Sighing, he let his hands rest on the keyboard, listening to his mother shuffle outside his door. She wasn't going to go away. He took a deep breath, trying to clear away the frustration litering his mind. "Come in."

Truthfully, Xerxes didn't want to be angry, but he was. He took a large bite of the greasy meat, the oils dripping down his lips. He wiped his chin on the back of his hand and sighed. "I hate this." He mumbled, looking over at her. "I mean... People are just fucking assholes." He mumbled. The two of them were born in Greece, so whenever they were alone, they usually spoke broken Greek, populated once in a while by the occasional American words. Their parents did the same, Darius was the only one that stuck to English, because he grew up speaking it.
"I need this silver pot thing in Oz to make what I want and I offered someone whatever they wanted for it, and they fucking said no because I didn't have anything I want. What the fuck? It's WORTHLESS." He sighed, going back to munching on the fatty beef, and as disgusting as it looked and felt in his mouth, it was really good. Greasy and fat always tasted good, which explained their mother's plump face. Food was important in their family.
Kiyomi didn't leave. Although she missed her husband, she suspected that his failure to come home on time in the evening was because she didn't want to listen to Kazuma play Oz. He refused to go to school. Her husband insisted that if he didn't want to go to school, he didn't deserve to play his games. The only reason they still had internet was because Kiyomi convinced her husband that getting rid of it would just make Kazuma worse.
Finally, she came inside and started to pick up his laundry and the dishes that he'd cleaned for dinner. "Hi sweetheart." She watched her son, worried. He'd gotten taller, and was a bit paler than he was years ago. Although all mothers thought their sons to be good looking, she knew that he was truly attractive. He was handsome, he had a charming smile. he was everything any girl would want. Many girls had been friends with him before he stopped going to school and dozens begged for his attention. It truly hurt her inside, because he was throwing away so much for nothing.
But, she found herself uncertainty of where to approach this without hurting her baby. "Kazuma..." She started, her tone reflecting her defeat, because she knew this would fail. "I'm... worried about you."

Food was important, but another thing that was important was talking. Because if there was one thing greeks knew, talking was one of the most amazing things to making sure the drama never ended. She chuckled, quickly quipping, "You know, often we see in others what we've got in ourselves."
Looking out at their yard, she sighed, "Perhaps you didn't offer what he wanted? Or... maybe he thought you were the one being assholish?" Her long brown curls flicked over her shoulder, and she couldn't help but smile. "You're so childish, little brother."
Across the world, another boy was feeling just as awkward, but for a different reason. His fingers couldn't type when his mother was around. She seemed to keep him in a purpetual state of guilt. He glared at his screen, gritting his teeth, because she was so... so broken.
Looking over at the woman who'd birthed him, raised him to seventeen years old... He couldn't look at her for long. "'M fine, 'kaa-san... don't worry." He murmured, his fingers beginning to start typing again, trying to figure out what it would take to make her leave... He didn't think he'd be able to listen to her try to talk him into school again... Or worse... about that talk... They'd made themselves very clear a long time ago.

Xerxes slowed in his eating and sighed. He handed one of the burgers to his sister, knowing that she liked his cooking. "You don't have to eat it all." he sighed, wondering what that was supposed to mean. Seeing others whats inside of you? Huh, that was weird. That wasn't what he was doing. Then, he wondered what King Kazuma could have wanted.
"what do you think he wanted then?" He asked, looking to his sister. Honestly, what could she want? This... this was starting to get weird. He felt uncomfortable in that instance. Yeah... he was really childish. "Guess that means I shouldn't have written a nasty email and swore at him, huh?"
"You're not fine." Kiyomi dared to start an argument with him, because he was so much smarter than this. He came up with a plan to stop Love Machine, and even if it wasn't successful, it was truly amazing for a thirteen year old boy. "Kazuma, you can't keep running from this. How can your father accept this when you refuse to acknowledge it yourself? Running away and locking yourself up here isn't going to solve this. I love you, and I want you to be happy. I want you to be out of this room and do something with your life. It's been eight months since you've gone to school. Your grades are about the same as they were, and... I-I'm scared for you. What kind of role model are you being for Mai? What will she think of her brother when he stays locked in his room? What incentive would she have to go to school?"
She felt flushed, angry with herself for blaming so much on him, but she couldn't help it. She felt guilty, very guilty, but it needed to be said. It had to be said, because they needed this to be clear. Kiyomi was losing steam and reasons to stop her husband's methods of getting Kazuma out of his room. She did not want to resort to those methods, but her methods were not working, and her patience was reaching it's limit.

His mother's snapping words made Kazuma's shoulders tighten, his scowl deepen. He lowered his head, hiding behind the fringe of his hair. It'd grown longer over the years, sitting at his shoulders now, which made it perfect for hiding behind. And yes, he was aware that he was hiding. He was aware.
He just... didn't know how to stop. Everyone outside was ridiculous, cruel, painful. He didn't see how his mother could stand to take Kumai to preschool every day, let her be around those that would hurt her. He sighed, shaking his head. "You don't understand." Of course. It was a typical teenager thing to say, but it was true. He refused to look at his mother, one leg folded up and the other curled under, one arm around the leg that's up.
Kalli giggled, "Yeah, probably." He was so adorable! Plus, he was ridiculously sweet, when NOT pissed off. She tilted her head a little, and smiled enigmatically, the way that made boys love her deeply. "Why don't you just ask him what he wants?" She purred, smiling.
Taking a bite of the burger, she grimaced, her lipstick smearing. "Ugh... Feels gross, tastes good... What a cook you are..." She laughed, swallowing it down.

Kiyomi was scared of Kazuma's reaction, but that wasn't what she expected. She wanted him to get angry. She wanted him to lunge outward. But... that's not what he wanted. This... this was going in the opposite direction of what she wanted. Walking over to her son, she wrapped her arms around his shoulders, pressing the breasts that he once suckled against his back, shaking. Tears started to stream down her cheeks onto his shoulder.
"I can't understand a son that ignores me..." her voice remained strong, despite how broken she felt inside. All she wanted was to support and love her son. But he pulled away just after... well, they found out, that she had no idea what to think. Of course she still loved him and was worried for him. But... all kids questioned themselves. This was so different. There was a time in her youth that she thought she loved her best friend. But, when she met her husband, she knew he was the one. "Kazuma, please, I want to understand."
"I don't want to ask him." Xerxes puffed out his cheeks in annoyance. He was blushing slightly. In a way, he did ask what Kazuma wanted, right? He just sorta said he wanted the pot, what can I give you to get it? Or, that's what he meant at least.
then, his face turned red, he looked away from his sister and groaned. "O-Oh come on! I-I'm a way better cook when I'm not angry!" he tried to justified the poorly made meal. It really did taste, look, and feel horrible on the palette, especially for kids that were raised in a culture were food was so important.

Leaning forward, Kalli wrapped her arms around her brother, her own voluptuous frame pinning him enough that she could ruffle his hair, before jumping up and running into the house, laughing, because she knew he would respond by chasing her. After all, that was how you played. And playfulness was a key ingredient in childhood.
However, she nearly ran over their brother Darius, who yelped, only to laugh when she tripped over him, and rolled into the back of the couch. "Yow!"
The hug... It was unexpected, and for a moment, Kazuma remembered the day where he sat back to back with his mother while she sobbed. The day Great, great grandmother had died... He sighed, shifting to lean just a little back into that comfort. His mother was a wonderful mother. Caring, sweet... He knew that this was ripping her apart at the seams...
"I'm sorry..." He murmured, closing his eyes, head still down, because he didn't know what else to say. That day... It weighed heavily on his mind... He'd thought... Well, hell, he'd thought they would understand, would accept him. They'd accepted Wabisuke, for god's sake, and he nearly ended the world! But... But no... He gritted his teeth, remembering the screaming match that they'd gotten into, the feel of his father's fist against his cheek before he could even THINK to block it. He'd never thought his father COULD hit a person... He was so kind and calm.
