Blaine smirked. It was true, so far he had gone the entire war without even a scratch to his face. He was a top soldier in Dagur's ranks, and even Holmes's army showed Blaine respect when he arrived or spoke at their councils. Everything was going well with the war, though he would forsake all of that if it only allowed Ember to speak how she felt. She still refused to spoke that she loved him, despite their long relationship. He loved her and used to say it often until she requested that it be stopped. She needed time, and Blaine hoped that after the war such a time would come where he could convince her to accept his proposal.
"Even in your weakened state, I have faith that you will do just fine," Blaine said before drawing one of his blades and offering it to Ruffnut. "I am yours to spar with if that is your wish, Valkyrie"

Ruffnut watched him. "Do you want me to talk to her for you?" She offered, glancing to the larger soldier. "I haven't said anything, she doesn't know I know, but if she won't listen to you, maybe she'll listen to me? I know how much you love her." At this point, she was sure Blaine was willing to try anything. Above all,she wanted him to be happy. He deserved that after all the years of helping, supporting and caring for Dagur. Blaine was a good man and he loved Ember with a love she had never seen before, it reminded her of how her father loved her mother. They should be together, even if Ember didn't see that. Maybe it was selfish to want them to be together, but Ember wanted it too, she was just afraid. Of what, Ruffnut had no idea.
Taking the sword in her hand, she adjusted it so she got a feel for the weight and balanced it in her hand. She swung the blade and a smile came to her face. The weight didn't tire her, a rare trait for someone not of Beserker blood. After all this time, she was used to the weight of their weapons. "I will spar with you, Beserker." She called, swinging the sword out to point it at him. They were a good enough distance apart. "If you could ask anything of your 'Valkyrie' what would you ask for?" Blaine was probably the only person she would say that too. It was dangerous to mock the Gods. She was not a Valkyrie, nor did she feel like one, but she did respect him enough to offering him something he asked for. If it was help with Ember, she'd do whatever she could.

Blaine shook his head. "No believe me, having someone else speak to her would only make things go from bad to worse" the man admitted. Ember was proud, just like the rest of her family. She wouldn't forgive Blaine for some time if she learned that he had spoken to anyone else about their relationship. It was to be kept secret, for according to the laws Blaine and Ember had broken many of them. The situation was complicated enough without bringing in another party. "I appreciate the offer sincerely Ruffnut, but you have to trust me when I say it would not end well."
Blaine smiled as he saw that Ruffnut seemed to handle the weight of the weapon just fine. HE stood a decent distance away from her before extending his weapon and pointing it towards her. "The only thing I can ask from you, is your eternal friendship," Blaine admitted as he didn't move to fight yet. "You are someone I can call a true comrade, and I hope you understand how much I value you both on the battlefield and off. You were able to change much because of your courage, I will look to you as an example for many years to come. I will remember you, as I hope you remember me."

"I realized as soon as I said it that Ember would probably react as well to me talking to her as Dagur would if I told him what was going on..." She said, laughing a little. When she found out, she did keep it from Dagur, but she went to Blaine rather than Ember. He was the safer choice in this situation. However, she had the idea that Ember was starting to figure out she knew about what was going on, especially since she made excuses to Dagur about where Ember was most of the time. Come to think of it, she was more surprised she hadn't noticed their relationship sooner than she had. It was a secret and so out of place. She never expected Blaine, of all people, to be in this sort of a relationship. For some reason, Ember's utter disregard for rules and most etiquette made it less surprising for her. The first thing Ember wanted when she saw Ruffnut's position at Hiccup's side and her skill with weapons was to be a warrior. Not that Ruffnut really blamed that one on her. There was nothing she wanted more than to fight.
Still, she wished she could help in some way. "I know you appreciate it, but I figured it would be more rude not to offer to help you. Especially since she'd bullied you into training her to use a sword." A smirk accompanied her following statement, "More swords than one, but you get the idea."
At the mention of her friendship, thesmile faded as she listened to what followed. Slowly, she nodded and smiled. Her eyes ran across the ground and to the left, showing she was embarrassed, but took the compliment without pushing it aside all the same. It had been one thing she started to do recently, she accepted compliments even if she didn't believe she deserved them. The experience was mostly humbling, but the other purpose was for her to accept what others thought of her, even if it was not a quality she thought she possessed. Still, it was sweet and she appreciated it. "I'm going to remember you probably as I've always seen you," she teased. Bringing the sword before her, she angled it toward Blaine rather than pointing it toward him. Their style of battle differed, but they were strangely compatible opponents. Unlike Dagur, who Ruffnut had trained with and the two were forced to stop mostly from mutual respect, she found that fighting with Blaine was like fighting with a skilled warrior, like Spitelout. It was an amazing experience and she always learned something. Even if Blaine offered a gentler approach than Spitelout.
"As someone I trust with a sword that can silence any man." She liked Blaine and enjoyed that he was one of the few Beserkers that she could speak freely and say just about anything to and he'd understand her meaning. It was different than Dagur, since he focused a lot on her and a mutual understanding and respected her above and beyond what was always needed. Even different than Weiss, who held Ruffnut in such high regard and respected her as much as Dagur. But, Weiss was different altogether and she had no idea why. Being with Blaine was essentially like being with Tuffnut. They liked to scheme, cause trouble and mayhem, and the occasional fire and explosion. They enjoyed battle and the thrill of it, but not seriously how Dagur and Weiss did, but in a more laid back and pleasurable way. More as a creative outlet for destruction, rather than the seriousness that came with ruling and order.
All the same, Ruffnut cared for Weiss and Dagur, but Blaine would always be special inside her heart.
"I'll never forget you. Even when you go back to Orka and live in shame for another 15 years until Ember gets pregnant and gives into marrying you before anyone finds out."
Steadying her stance, she waited. "Whenever you're ready to start."

Ruffnut was one of Blaime's better friends. He always enjoyed listening to her opinions and hearing her speak. She had a way of planning and organizing that few did. She was truly a woman gifted with wisdom from the gods. It was why Blaine and Weiss often wided with Ruffnut when she presented ideas to Dagur or the council as a whole. HE had never enjoyed Ruffnut's company because he was ordered to or because Dagur wanted Blaine to like her. No, Ruffnut had earned Blaine's trust and friendship. That was why he and Weiss would do anything Ruffnut requested, as they knew she would do the same if they requested something from her.
"Always enjoyed your positiveity Ruffnut," Blaine said with a smile as he raised his sword and had his blade rest against Ruffnut's, their blades now firmly crossed before the battle was to begin. "Ready and...go" Blaine said before swinging his blade. Blaine wished to start off easy, not wanting to push too far incase Ruffnut had not fully recovered. At the same time, he would not insult her either. His strike was fast and strong, and he wanted to see how easily Ruffnut could deflect or move in for a counter attack.
Blaine was nearly caught off guard when Ruffnut used Blaine's strength against him to turn and strike at him from the other side. Blaine blocked it in time before pushing the blade away and taking a few steps back. "Impressive, I was not expecting that."

Rolling the sword in her hand, it still held a perfect balance and she was glad she'd spent as much time mastering it as she had. Hopefully, this meant she would be able to do as she wished. Exhaling, she readied herself, but couldn't help but smile and shake her head at Blaine. He enjoyed her positivity. That's one of the many things the beserkers seemed to like about her. the only thing the Beserkers did differently than Berk was that they didn't talk about battle the same way. They would discuss plans and strategy, but they didn't go into what they wanted or felt was coming. They left that up to the gods. They didn't pray or ask for favors. They fought, knowing the gods would reward those warriors who deserved it.
It was not uncommon that men wanted to go easy on Ruffnut. She always fought well, but when she was hurt, they held back. More than she would have liked. Still, it was something she should be happy about. They cared about her and didn't want to push her. In the end, it made it so she didn't have to ask them to stop. It meant she didn't need to show weakness.
They gave her the opportunity to show her strength.
When he moved to strike her, she deflected the attack and swung around him. He managed to block her attack and she grinned. "You watched me rise from the dead and you didn't expect a sneak attack? I think you're the one that's slipping." She swung toward him again and wasn't surprised when he blocked her attack. However, her intention was just to get closer to him. His weapon was long and his arms were almost as long. It was near impossible for him to strike her when she was so close to him. Despite her own height, she was thin and flexible enough to twist her body and move her weapon toward his core with little effort. It was often in close range battle that Ruffnut excelled, with or without weapons.

"Hey you've never seen me die in the first place, you're the one that got soft" Blaine teased her. The two had always had a good relationship. While she hadn't spoken to Blaine until after Dagur got her out of prison, Blaine was usually the one that was sent to get her food. He had admired her courage and will. Most would have broken, died, or killed themselves in a prison like that, especially a woman. Not her though, never her. In his entire time of knowing her, Blaine could hardly name a single weakness that Ruffnut ever showed. Not a physical one at least. She was talented, strong, and beautiful. Blaine knew without a doubt that the gods had caused Savage to take her instead of Astrid so that things could change.
Had Astrid been in that prison, Blaine didn't want to imagine how the world would have turned out.
When she moved in close to attack him, he tried to move back. Blaine was a master swordsman, he and Ruffnut had fought long and hard together. He knew that while strong, she was also nimble and quick of mind and feet. She would always use whatever advantage she had over an opponent to beat them. Still, despite blocking her winning move he was backing up, having to play pure defense in order to avoid being struck. Ruffnut had the advantage.

The movement they went through in the battle allowed Ruffnut to push Blaine further and further back. A smirk was on her face. She was trying to angle Blaine toward a small root that would likely trip him. If it worked, she'd be able to beat him easily. While she normally wanted to keep fighting, she knew her father wouldn't approve of her fighting constantly. And neither would Spitelout or Oddnot. Still, she knew she couldn't really risk a lot of fighting. she was almost back to full strength, even her father could see that, but he worried about her, and rightfully so.
As she pushed him back, she moved around him to angle him exactly where she wanted him to be. She was too fast and nimble in her movements to give him much time to observe his surroundings. And, it wasn't as if this was a true battle to the death. They always fought seriously, but if one of them made a mistake, they'd just laugh and let it go. There was no actual risk involved in their battles. Well, aside from bragging rights.

Blaine was a great fighter. He was one of the best in Orka, but he wasn't able to think on such a complicated level as Ruffnut. It was one of her strengths that she shared with her battle, she'd see a small detail that others would shrug off and find a way to make it work to her advantage. In terms of strength and form they were evenly matched, but Blaine couldn't think like Ruffnut could. Tuffnut was the only one capable of that.
As planned, Blaine was stumbled by the root of the tree, falling over as his toes were caught by the weed. He fell, and while he maintained his grip on his weapon, he had lost any sort of positioning he had. He didn't have to look up to know that Ruffnut's blade was only inches away from him. "I concede" Blaine said with a smile as he held his blade up in defeat. "You haven't lost even the smallest portion of your skills."

Ruffnut grinned to herself when he fell, smug and feeling altogether accomplished with herself. She used the sword in her hand to move Blaine's armor on his right side and bent down so she was looking in his face. "I guess you can't help but fall for me, huh?" She lowered her weapon and offered him her other hand so she could pull him to his feet. It was strange for Blaine to give up in battle, but she was glad that he didn't push it to be a real challenge. After all, in the middle of a war, it seemed like a waste, considering she wasn't yet ready to fight and they needed to save their strength.
Blaine and Ruffnut had always been close, maybe it was because they had spent a great deal of time together, or maybe it was because they were so alike in how they thought and saw the world. All the same, they had been friends almost from the very beginning. The thing that made Blaine approach her was likely how Dagur treated her, how he had gone back on his world to ally with Alvin. Dagur was impulsive, but he was a good man, a man of his word and so many men fell to their lack of honor and ownership for their mistakes. Dagur upheld those mistakes and let things happen. He accepted himself. Ruffnut respected him greatly for his code and for how he accepted what he was and the choices he made in the past.
Ironic that Blaine and Weiss were similar men. "I'm a little worried about what's going to happen with Weiss." She added softly. Normally Ruffnut was the first to be confident and boast that he would be alright, secretly praying it was true. The men of Orka looked to her now more than ever for predictions and advice for how to survive battle. Her father hated the attention they gave her, but Ruffnut could just say she wasn't a Valkyrie, and give them advice on how to survive all the same.

Blaine looked up at Ruffnut as he was working on dusting off some of the dirt from his armor. Ruffnut hadn't directly stated any negative emotions other than concern, but to hear any sort of doubt come from her was very rare. She spoke and held herself with such confidence, very few thought that she feared anything. Blaine knew that she was just a strong woman, but still...to hear her voice such a concern almost made him more worried. Still, he was glad that she could confide in him.
"Weiss is one of our strongest. If anyone can pull this off it's him, and we need the intel" Blaine acknowledged. "Holmes finally coming over to our side has been a great benefit, but it's only going to make a difference if we can provide him with knowledge to come up with a plan. Now that our army is united, we can destroy the Outcasts from the face of this realm and allow their corpses to rot" the swordsman exclaimed. "Weiss knew the risks of going, but he also knew the reward we could accomplish if he was successful. Trust him."
