L did a fairly good job preoccupying himself with the large array of sweets he had before him. She was quiet, just letting her coffee cool in her hands, unsure of what to do now. She seemed rather lost and confused, making L keep glancing at her out of the corner of his eye. Then, he went back to reading, but made sure to look at her now and then. Slowly, he was starting to see a pattern in Light's change of writing. Before he was imprisoned, and after they had found the newest Kira, the writing was the same. But before that, it was different. What was different about these two points in him.
His mind began to race, craving sweets to help with the advances processes. Then, slowly, he was pulled back to reality by the sound of a voice. Pushing his chair away from the computer, he drifted back over to her. "I know it may be hard for you to realize that your sister and yourself were the only survivors, but I would never lie to you about such a fact. I understand you must have been there on a date of some kind, and for that, I am deeply sorry for your loss." He wasn't sure what else to say, so he just didn't say anything else.

Scarlett leaned back, sighing. She took a sip from the mug while it was still warm. "Thanks...and um, I think I'd like to help catch Kira." She said, suddenly. Setting her mug down, she rubbed her hands together, biting her lip. "I don't know how useful I'll be, but I want to do whatever I can. He killed my friend, he's made it personal now even though it wasn't mean to be that way." she paused, looking at the male, wondering if he was even listening to her because he managed to stay so still.
"For as long as I'm here at least...It's not like I'm doing anything else anyway." She said, standing up and crossing her arms across her chest. She was lost as to what to do. She wanted to go back home so bad, but she didn't just want to leave this place when they were trying to catch Kira, not after he'd screwed a portion of her life up. She could at least be of some assistance while she was here? Right?

L glanced over at her. "You... want to help me?" He questioned, watching her reaction and her over all persona. It seemed that he was figuring out if she was worthy to catch kira, to be a part of what they were doing. Another part is he wasn't exactly sure that kind of qualifications she had. Was she smart? Or talented, or anything? He needed to see a demonstration of her reasoning and deductive skills. Maybe that would better help him access her usefulness.
Getting up from his chair, a sudden movement after nearly fifteen minutes of him remaining still, he walked over to the mac book which was on the desk and opened a file, printing it out. As if to insult her, he handed her a small exam. "It's something that anyone who wants to one day be L takes. It's a short exam which focuses on deductive reasoning and logical thought. It's short, and rather than writing it you can just tell me what you think of each scenario. It doesn't bother me either way. Most of them are just thought experiments which are made for you to think, figure out what is needed, what isn't, and what is a distraction."

Scarlett watched him get up and head over to the mac. "Yeah, I do." Glancing at the paper in his hand, she took it, her eyes touching upon it just barely before she looked back at him, meeting his eyes. Holding the paper in both of her hands, she tore it in half, letting it fall to the floor. "I don't want your stupid exam. I guess I didn't make it clear enough, I'm not asking you. Kira stole from me and there's no test in this world that's going to determine my dedication in destroying the God-wannabe. Whether you decide to keep me out of the investigation or not, it won't stop me from locating him on my own."
Picking up her now cold cup of coffee, she headed toward the elevator again. "Goodnight, L."

As strange as it was, L was actually shocked she so openly denied his request for her to take a test for him to place her abilities. Very well then. He watched her walk towards the elevator. "I will give you some information on Kira after you sleep. Good night." He looked back at the Mac before him, deciding it was better that he included her. After all, there didn't seem to be anything else he could do about her determination, and her denial to comply with him was enough for him to want to include her. If she was Kira or sympathized with him, much like Light she'd just feed him what he wanted to hear, giving him all the information he wanted. Her denial of said things just interested him more. Maybe a woman who was able to analyze information would do him some good. It's not like any of the men whom were here served a purpose beside irritating him and taking up space.
Raising from his chair, he grabbed a slice of golden strawberry and cream cake. Sitting down, he put his fork in it, starting to sort through Light's hand writing. It did change slightly when he was in high school to when he joined the task force, to just before and after his incarceration, to when it ended. His mind raced with possibilities. Could Kira control his victims indefinitely? No... Light was Kira. He was just able to give up the ability completely, forgetting all that had happened, or perhaps it was less complicated than that.
He'd reviewed all the tapes of his 50 days of imprisonment - something which had taken him a long time to complete. There was so little to work on. But there was a time, about 18 days in when Light's entire persona totally changed to the phrase of "... this pride, I must get rid of it" It felt like a secret communication. Kira already used the mention of shinigami. As did the second kira. If they really did exist, then perhaps it could be that no one noticed. That was something he just couldn't ignore. He had to be able to use it, but there was really no way how he could prove such ridiculous things.
Or, perhaps he could?
- - -
A week has passed. L shared a lot with Scarlett, but always at night when everyone was gone. She couldn't seem to sleep at night, and the change in time zones most likely didn't help. He didn't ask because she didn't ask why he never slept. Truth be told, he was starting to miss Watari. Sweets were at a minimum without him, so he'd resorted to ordering things from various places under random names and then making sure it wasn't poisoned.
Truthfully, this was starting to get old and on his nerves. He hadn't heard from the man at all.
Surprisingly, however they had a new lead on Kira. He was killing off known members of the Mafia. It wasn't strange because it fit Kira, but it was smaller members and men who had never been convicted. It was just those who were suspected. Their information was never released, pictures never taken. He was starting to think things had moved to Italy to distract him, and to implicate Kiera in all this. He kept it under wraps, and often added things to Scarlett, voicing ideas off of her. He did, after all have a lot of control over her. And who WOULD believe her? He could just have her committed if she made things difficult, but that was if he had to. He didn't want that for her. She didn't deserve it.
Finally, Watari returned.
"Oh Ryuuzaki, I can't tell you how difficult it was to find that chocolate you like so much. They closed all the places they once made it in England and it's only available in America now." He said, sitting down. "But I'm having some flown here. It's exclusive, but I hope I got enough."
L looked up and nodded. "That's fine, Watari. You're too kind." He said, leaning back in his seat, glancing over his shoulder at the red headed woman and the brunette who was staring at him, almost threateningly.
