Near turned to face him. "You're one of them aren't you?" He asked, having already figured it out. "A mindless soul that has dedicated themselves into believing that there's an invisible being that exists everywhere and nowhere and that has magic powers?" He sighed, leaning back in the seat, a street light catching his bright hair and the pink and black inside of it. "I suppose someone has to believe in something, but I just believe in knowledge. God is too improbable, and therefore impossible."

Gevanni frowned, "Come now, I've done nothing to deserve a response like that. All I was offering was encouragement." He muttered, a little annoyed that the child would put down his beleifs like that. "And yes, I'm roman-catholic, thank you." He confirmed, his hands tightening on the steering wheel. "Even Sherlock Holmes said that after eliminating all things, whatever was left, no matter how improbable, is the truth." He argued.

Near looked a little surprised by that. "I suppose I was rude, but I'm not fond of people telling me what I should believe. MY father has been telling me since Child Protective Services brought me here that I should believe in God, and read the Bible, and go to church with the rest of 'my family'. And I just don't see the point." He shrugged. "Even if what is left is God, then what will I lose if I didn't believe in him? I'll die anyway, and if he's willing to put me in damnation for the rest of my days for not believing then that's my fate." He shrugged. "If he loves everything he creates, and he created me, then he made me not believe in him. So why would I change the perfect, divine creation he turned me into. Pull over by that blue house on the left. That's my house."

Gevanni pulled over, and stopped. Turning to look at the boy, he smiled, "Well, at least you've got the basis down. Don't ever change who and what you are. He loves you as you are." He smiled, "Should I walk you to the door, to explain to your parents?" He offered, hoping to make sure the boy was okay. His family seemed alright, wanting him to go to church, but...

"They won't care either way." Near said, opening the door and getting out. He smiled at him. "thank you for driving me, I know you didn't have to. I'm glad you showed up, I doubt I'd have been on time if you hadn't." He stood in the door for a moment, a little unsure what he should do. He'd never gotten along with anyone here. Well, no one except Matt and Mello. He'd introduced them, after all. He smiled, moving some of his messy (and dirty) hair from his face. "I hope you like it here. If you're religious, pretty much everyone will accept you, even if you are foreign."

Gevanni smiled, "I'm not here to be accepted, but thank you, Near. Here." He pulled out one of his cards from his wallet. He usually gave them to narcs and homeless kids. "If you need anything, even if just to talk. Call me." He handed the card over.

Near leaned into the car to take the card. "Thank you." He smiled at him and read over the card, memorizing the number with ease. He thought about giving the card back, since he didn't need it, but he assumed that would be rude and it would take too much to explain. He went to put it in the pocket of his shirt, before realizing he wasn't wearing his own clothes. He slid it in the pocket of the jeans he was loaned and closed the door, waving. He turned toward the house and ran up the walkway. He sighed, backpack on his shoulder before opening the door and going inside.

Gevanni watched to make sure the kid got inside, before heading out to his hotel. He sighed, crashing. Because damn, if he wasn't tired. Tomorrow, he'd report to his new boss, as well as the DA of this area.

Near went inside and saw his father waiting for him. He knew this wasn't going to be good, especially because he was dirty and wearing someone elses clothes. But, at least he was here, and he was alive. "Sorry that took longer than I said it would." The whitenette said quietly, moving into the room where his father and step mother were sitting. They had paper in their hand, so he guessed this was the results of the test they'd taken a few months ago.

Maria smiled, welcoming her stepson home. She was so proud of him. Yes, he was... awkward. And this Athiest stage really needed to cease, but she was still proud of him. "Welcome home, Near."

Near was a little uncertain of what was going on.He nodded, slowly, acknowledging what she'd said. He didn't sit down, and just stood in front of them, waiting for one of them to either yell at him, or say something. In all the years he'd lived here, he never really felt welcome, or even at home. He didn't consider a place like this his home.
"Is... s-something wrong?" He asked, used to coming home and already being in trouble.

Maria smiled, nudging her husband. Nathaniel looked up from the paper, and sighed. "Sit, Nate." He murmured, not sure if he should be concerned, or proud. "This paper is from your teacher, and signed by your principal." He muttered, "And i think it's time we discussed your future."

Oh no... He had the strange feeling he was in trouble. He sat down, wishing he could ask 'What future', but knew better. He wondered if he failed the test, or he registered as a being not suited to be in this part of the country anymore. He looked down at the floor, trying not to fidget, which he often did when he was nervous. At least he wasn't at the table. Whenever they had him sit at the table, it meant he'd done something wrong and he was grounded or in far mroe trouble then when this happened in the living room.
"What about it?" He asked, voice slightly tight.

Looking at his son, he nodded, "It's time you started planning for it. You're getting to be too old to keep frittering away your days." He set down the paper. "You'll be moving up a grade again. Your principal insists. He wants you to start taking college classes during the day." He explained.

Near's eyes widened. No... he... "I-If I move up another grade, I'll be a senior, and I don't want to be a senior. And there's nothing I want here. I want to go to college somewhere else..." He admitted quietly, looking down. He just, didn't know where, or for what. There was really nothing he wanted to do or anything that interested him professionally. Near wasn't comfortable enough around people to be a lawyer like his father, and there was nothing else that made him happy. He just... liked to learn. The colleges around here weren't all that great, and he didn't want to even try to do them. "I want to stay with Matt and Mello, I want to be a junior and graduate next year, with my friends."
