Amaranth just smiled at the mention of how Jet had missed them. "I remember when Jet left. Bellamy cried and begged him to stay." She said, sipping some tea. Then she offered Suyin a cup and held up the pot she had. It was a fire nation tea pot made of superior steel. "We all wanted him to stay, but that really... wouldn't work. I don't know if he told you why he left...?" She added, not sure what to really say since it was rather person for Jet.
As she nibbled on the roll, she glance to her son as he was playing with a wooden toy that looked similar to the door. Saying studied the door and she laughed. "No, there was no pattern, they were just made by the same person." She sipped her tea again and waited as she looked over her tea cup. "Jet." She finally stated. "Jet made most of the houses and everyone else mimicked his designs to make all the houses the same. But the color of the wood stain is unique to Jet, and the arc is unique to the houses he built. You'll see what I mean. I'll bring you to see some of the houses we've built more recently and you'll see what I mean."
Bellamy looked over to where the two of them were. "Mommy?" He questioned. "Does this mean you're going to give up being leader?"
Amaranth glanced to her boy. "That's possible baby, but you know the rules."

Suyin looked at the teapot and immediately recognized it as being from her home country. If there was something the Fire Nation did well, it was tea. Tea was like fuel for firebenders espescially. She hoped the tea inside the pot was as good as the one from back home. It was one of the things she missed a lot. She took the cup of tea, enjoying the heat it gave off. She shook her head. "No, he never said anything and I never asked," she answered, taking a sip slowly. She didn't bother waiting for it to cool down, the heat of it felt nice.
She looked up, slightly surprised. She had no idea that Jet had an ability like that, but then again he was the founder of the freedom fighters so they had to have started somewhere. In order to keep them alive he probably had to learn to build things like that. "I had no idea he could do that," she said, eyeing the wood. It was really well built. She became aware of his jacket around her again and she smiled. She used to think he was just a hard-headed guy with a short fuse but she'd gotten past that pretty quickly, she noticed.
Her eyes drifted to Bellamy and she smiled. "He's really sweet," she said.

Amaranth poured her a cup of tea at a good level and smiled at the girl before her. She had noted the jacket Suyin was wearing. Jet had changed since she last saw him. To see him caring for a fire bender was a strange thing to see, but she was glad for him. At least he had let go of some of his hate. She remembered that Jet had done things she was sure he regretted.
"He was raised by people that love him." She said with a smile as she watched her son. "He's always been safe here in the Freedom Fighters. For a long time I was scared he would be hated for what he was, I'm glad to say I was wrong about that."
The door opened without a knock and Jet came in. When he walked inside, he put his weapons at the door and rubbed the top of Bellamy's head as he walked by with a grin. "Play." He told him as he ran his fingers through the boys hair. "I need to talk to your mother."
He approached the table and sat beside Suyin. His armor was slightly dirty and he looked a bit sweaty. He smiled at Suyin as Amaranth brought him something to eat as well. "Thanks." He said as she poured him some tea and brought him some water. She brought Jet more than double what she brought Suyin. "You're right." He stated, drinking the water down and starting to eat. "She hates the idea and she doesn't want to marry him. Her father doesn't seem to really have an option." He sighed and paused.
"Are you going to talk to him? You had an agreement with him years back."
Jet shook his head. "No, that won't solve this. I need to figure out the best thing to do about this. Our position will be destroyed if they manage to burn this place down. I do need to find a way to solve this without violence. I might have to travel away from here to go to Kumi's point to figure out what's going on and what they plan to go if they marry her."
Amaranth glanced toward Suyin. "Kumi's point is three days from here. Are you sure you want to go that far this close to the rains?"
"Yeah, I can make it in two if I go alone." He looked to Suyin. "Are you okay to stay here if I leave?" He was somewhat hesitant in this question. "I don't want you to feel as if I'm abandoning you."

When the door swung open, Suyin sat up, not really knowing who to expect. Seeing it was Jet, she relaxed and watched him enter. He looked pretty dirty, as if he had been out and about, which didn't shock her. She continued to sip her tea as they spoke, not really knowing what was happening.
"What's going on?" she asked, confused. She didn't really understand what they were talking about and she wasn't sure if she should ask, but she did anyway before she could stop herself. It didn't sound good. Burn them down? The war was over. What kind of conflict could be going on? Whatever it was it didn't sound good.
"I'm fine," she said. Watching over her should have been the least of his worries at the moment. He had helped her enough, and she was grateful. She also knew that he was busy especially now that they were back in his home area.
They kept talking about the rains and while Smellerbee had told her they were really bad, she wondered exactly how bad that meant. It sort of made her nervous that they talked about it as if it was the end of the world. Water and her weren't exactly a thing, so she hoped that maybe they were just over exaggerating it.

Jet looked to Suyin when she asked for an explanation. "Oh..." He finally said. "Remember how I told you I had to leave because I was going to flood the fire nation out of the valley and Sokka ruined it so everyone knew about it instead of just the citizens of the town?" He questioned, nodding to Amaranth. His eyes returned to Suyin's face. "The leader of Gaipan is called Wu, and he's going to marry his only child to the second son of Kumi's point, the closest village to hear. Kumi's point believes that the Freedom fighters are dangerous and only heard the rumors about us. If the marriage happens, he is going to burn down the forrest of Jet. The trees here are a few hundred years old. Destroying this forest... it would ruin this area. I need to figure out what he wants and what he's planning to do once the marriage takes place."
His breakfast was starting to get cold as he explained all this, so as she proceeded this, he started to eat as much as he could in a short time. He was starving. When he finished a few mouthfuls, he swallowed and took a sip of tea. "The reason this is a consideration from us is because Wu's daughter was called Princess during the time she lived with the freedom fighters. She is the one who told the villagers that they would burn down the forrest of Jet. She started the rumors to make them known." He looked to Amaranth. "That she honestly admitted to me and said she didn't want to marry him. She's afraid of him."
He ran his hand over his face and scratched the facial hair on his chin. "I can stop this and prevent the union. I just have to figure out a way to make it happen, believably."

Suyin listened as he spoke, nodding. "Okay, yeah, that sounds like a problem," she said slowly. It sounded like the Earth Kingdom had problems within their own country, even after the war's end. At leas this time, she could proudly say it wasn't her country burning down things. "You should probably leave soon then. If you need me to help with anything, I can. Like if you need me to threaten to burn down his village or anything," she joked.
There was a low roar somewhere outside the house which caused Suyin to straighten her back, eyes on the door. Sounds of voices could be heard as well, fast and angry. The door swung open loudly, hitting the wall beside it. "Where the fuck is Jet?!" The person asked, clearly pissed. It was a woman, her eyes scouting the room. They first stopped on Suyin, and her expression didn't seem at all pleasant. Then she trained them on Jet before she came marching over. "You brought a fucking firebender here? What the fuck happened to you while you were gone?"
"Frost!"
A man followed darted in quickly, grabbing the woman that was standing in front of the table, palms pressed against it, and staring down the former leader of the Freedom Fighters. "You're gonna scare the kid," he said, pulling her back. When his face became visible from behind the woman named Frost, the first thing Suyin saw was the horrible scar on the side of his head and face. The scar was over his right ear and ran down a portion of his neck as well as the side of his face.

"Yeah, I'm going to have to leave for at least a week. You know me, I can make it back in the rains. it will slow them down significantly from being able to follow me in whatever I decide to do. I'm used to moving in the rains. The soldiers aren't used to this kind of thing, most of them don't move out of the city during the rains. You know that. I'll have an advantage." He said with smile. "You don't have to worry about--"
When the door opened, he stood out of habit and relaxed when he saw it was Frost. He should have known she would react this way. "Hey... hey..." He held up his hands. "Frost come on." He gestured to Bellamy with his head and looked at the boy who was clearly interested in what was going on.
There was a pause and Jet hesitated in answering the question. "I didn't have much of a choice." He finally answered. "A resistance in the fire nation who wants Azula in power tried to assassinate her. They didn't expect her to live. She was the daughter of someone in the organization and traded her life for information and helping the avatar take them down. So far, she's been true to her word. They found out about her and tried to kill again. Aang decided to go back to the fire nation and figure this out. I did meet Zuko in Ba Sing Se. I don't care for him, but he's removed the fire nation from most of the Earth Kingdom. I can't really complain since they ended the war and the furthering of the fire nation across the world. I want to believe there can be peace, I'll die if I keep fighting a war that's ended. I've tried." He started to undo his armor and tossed it aside.
Finally, when he got it off, he removed his tunic over his head. His chest was sweating, but the dozens of dark scars on his chest were apparent, especially the one on his stomach. "This was from the Earth Kingdom, I was almost killed by an earth bender in Ba Sing Se. The war is over, but right now we're fighting a war at home. I took Suyin here to save her life and do the avatar a favor. He did fuck up the last plan I had, but... maybe organized murder like that wasn't the best way to go. We can get through this. She likely won't be here forever. Just for now."
Amaranth was also standing and was looking at her sword. She would fight and kill to protect her son. It wasn't up for negotiation. "Frost." She said, looking down at the woman before them. "This really isn't the time to have this conversation."
Bellamy had abandoned his play and was currently standing in the doorway. "A fire bender?" He asked, tilting his head. "Frostie, what does that mean?"

"Who fucking cares? Like it's your job to protect her? Why the fuck should this burden be on you or any of us? If her people find out where she is and come after her the whole base is going to be in trouble because you decided to be a good fucking person suddenly. I preferred you when you put us before a god damn firebender, you know back when you said this place was a fire nation free zone? Yeah, you promised us that when we joined, Jet."
She turned her head to look at Suyin, disgust in her eyes. Suyin stared back at her, gold eyes slightly narrowed. She stayed quiet however, not wanting to escalate the problem. If it came down to it, she wanted to be the bigger person so that no one could say she attacked one of them later. Instead she just continued to stare, a serious look on her face.
"Come on, Frost - you're overreacting," said the man as he held her back. "Holy shit, you look almost as bad as me," he said as he saw the scar on Jet's torso.
Frost shoved him back, a piercing glare trained on him. "Shut the hell up, Echo." When she heard Amaranth speak, she turned to look at her. "Don't tell me that. You of all people should understand where I'm coming from." She stepped back, clearly still pissed. "I can't believe this. I was told this would be the only place on earth the fire nation wouldn't touch, guess that shit's out the window now huh?"
Hearing Bellamy speak, she looked over at him, a gentler expression on her face. "It's nothing hun, just grown up talk, okay? You wanna go outside and play with Pumpkin?" she asked. At the sound of her name, the lion-cobra named Pumpkin gave a playful growl from outside the door.

Jet stood his ground and widened his stance. This was something he did often during arguments. "My job has always been to protect people who needed it. I have protected benders and non benders. Yes, before her, it was only the earth kingdom, but keeping her alive is the a big part of stopping the war from starting again. There's no way they'll track her this far. If they do, then I'll figure it out when it happens. My priority has always been my people, MY freedom fighters. They mean everything to me. At the moment, my goal is to stop the earth kingdom from burning down our home. Right now, it's Kumi's point, a part of the earth kingdom. They know the rumors about us, the bad things. I want to keep us alive. If they do manage to set fire to the valley, you'll be grateful to have a fire bender here to redirect and put out the fire."
"Grown up talk?" Bellamy asked, glancing between all the adults. He walked between them and took Jet's hand. "Frostie, why are you mad at Jet? He brought home someone that has the same eyes as me. She's nice and I like her. Why don't you want her here? Maybe you should take a nap... it always helps me feel better."
The sound of the lion-cobra was quite tempting to him and he leaned toward the door, leaving Jet the responsibility of supporting his weight. "Can Pumpkin come inside?" He asked, looking to his mother.
"Enough." Amaranth sternly stated, watching the two siblings. "This has gone far enough, Frost. I do understand why you feel this hatred, but that doesn't mean you should attack the girl. She may be a fire bender, but that doesn't mean she has done anything wrong or is involved in the war. A fire bender also stopped this war. Two fire benders, and one of them was the fucking Avatar. The fucking Avatar you happily welcomed here and hung out with for hours while we influenced their water bender. Don't you dare... don't you dare turn this around and make it about me, about Jet, about Suyin. Yeah, none of us really know why she's here, but do you really think Jet would just come back with a fuc- fire bender for absolutely no reason? Just because he's not leader now, you don't have to respect his choice, but you do, on the other hand, have to respect MINE. She's staying with me where I can keep an eye on her and I promise you that if she fire bends without reason, if she hurts or burns anyone, we'll have a much more serious conversation than the one we're having now."
Bellamy watched his mother as she spoke in anger and looked surprised and a little scared. "A fire bender?" He looked at Jet and then at his mother, then to Frost. "Is that why we both have gold eyes? Am I a fire bender too?"
Silence came to the room and Jet picked Bellamy up into his arms. He had put his shirt back on already. "Bellamy, don't worry about it okay?"
"Is a fire bender like an earth bender, but with fire?" Bellamy moved in jet's arms and put his hands together. In an instant, there was a flicker and a ball of fire appeared in his hands. "Like this?"

Frost stared at him. "You're not the same as you used to be," she said.
"I'm not attacking her. You'd know if I was attacking her. I'm not even talking to her because she's not worth it. I came here to discuss this decision. You think maybe you should have held a vote on this type of thing? You really thing everyone here is just going to be comfortable with a firebender living with them? These are kids that have seen their parents burned alive, who had their entire villages brought down by fire." She looked at Jet in particular. Then she paused for a long moment. "One girl's - one fire nation scum's life is worth this much to you?" she asked Jet.
"And no, I actually don't HAVE to respect anybody's choice." She looked at Amaranth. While she did respect the leader, she didn't agree with everything and she had that right. "I wasn't named after a flower like you, Amaranth, clearly there's nothing lovely about me."
There was a spark of fire in the room and Frost turned her head, her hand on her weapon, ready to take it out if needed. When she realized that it came from Bellamy and not Suyin, she was shocked.
Suyin however looked back at her, as if challenging her now.
Frost loved both Amaranth and Bellamy like family and she knew the circumstances of Bellamy's birth. Upon seeing his eyes at birth she had always had that worry in the back of her mind, but he was born here and he was one of them. He would never be like the firebendes of the Fire Nation. Suyin was different. She was Fire Nation, born and raised. Under their ways and propaganda.
She turned to head out. At the doorway she stopped, turning to quickly glance at Jet. "Let me know when you leave for Kumi's point, I'm coming with." With that, she shut the door behind her, leaving Echo with the others.
Once she was out of the room, Suyin went to Bellamy's side. "That's a really special gift, you know? But you have to be super careful. Don't use that unless you're with an adult, okay? It's cool but it's very dangerous," she explained, taking his little hand into her own. "Wanna show me how you did that again?'

The mention that he had change did hurt and Jet looked away, not sure what to say. "Not all change is bad, Frost."
He sighed, "Frost, I can't call a vote because I brought her here. If you want to call a vote, then fine. But it needs to wait until after we deal with this whole princess fucking situation. It will have to be after I come back. We can call a vote and decide hem. I'm willing to let the freedom fighters decide for themselves, but you know they'll light this place up after the rains. All important diplomatic marriage ceremonies take place following the rains because of the fertility of the land. There's no where safe she can be besides here. I'll grant it to you that you're right. They should decide if they feel safe with a fire bender here. I never once tried to lie about what she is."
Amaranth stepped forward and came toward Frost. "How dare you! Did you ever consider you're called Frost because of how you are on the inside? You're cold and just an outright bitch. Everyone avoids you because you're so nasty and angry all the time. It has nothing to do with your face. You're beautiful on the outside. You... you just push everyone away. Did you ever consider doing something to stop being so cruel to everyone?"
Jet was still holding Bellamy in his arms when he created fire. There was a warmth against his chest and he looked down at the fire in surprise. This was something all of them had always feared and he looked at Amaranth.
She said nothing, just stared at her son with wide eyes. She shook and put her hand against the table to keep herself from falling. This scared her for more than anything. For him to be a fire bender... That terrified her. She closed her eyes and gulped down her saliva before letting out a breath. Well. This was happening.
Jet watched as the fire vanished. Frost left and he shifted the boy in his arms. Suyin approached him and he was glad she said something about helping him. None of them were benders, none of them could really help him. He smiled at Suyin for a moment. "Thanks." He said softly. "Frost... might come around, but she won't do anything to hurt you."

Suyin gave a shrug. "I'm not afraid," she answered. She kind of was, but not to the point where she would let herself get incredibly worried about it. Amaranth seemed to be okay with her and she knew she probably had Jet's protection. If Frost did attack her she wouldn't fight back. She had to show everyone here that she wasn't like those that had invaded their country.
Echo wandered over to them. He knew he had to get going. "Hey," he said, getting Suyin's attention. "I'm really sorry about my sister. I tried to stop her before she got here but she's really not the type to listen. She's a tough shell to crack but she really is loyal to the ones she cares for."
"I'm Echo, I used to really hate the Fire Nation too, but the war is over now and I'm trying to let things go. If I can make friends with a Fire Nation citizen then maybe I can learn to not judge an individual based on the actions of a group. So what do you say, wanna be my first Fire Nation ally?" he asked, holding out a hand.
Suyin was surprised, but she smiled and nodded nonetheless. She reached out to shake his hand. He was completely different than his sister, charming almost.
"Great! Again, I'm really sorry. I'll see you around sometime and I promise, she'll cool down!" he said as he exited, shutting the door behind himself. "Bye Amaranth, sorry for trudging in!" he called as he left.
Suyin looked at Jet and Amaranth. "If you want, I can show him how to control it. I won't teach him any combat moves or anything just enough so that he realizes the responsibility of a power like this. Mostly things like breathing exercises." She wanted to ask permission before she just started tutoring the kid. For all she knew maybe they wanted him to completely avoid using it, which was fair. Although not the best.

Jet looked to Amaranth when he question of Bellamy being trained came up. Amaranth in turned, looked to Jet.
"What should I do?" She asked.
He hesitated, "He's your son, you need to decide what you want to do."
Amaranth walked over to Jet and lifted her son from his arms. "Hey kiddo." She said softly. "How would you like to spend some time with Suyin and learn how to control that fire of yours? Would that make you happy?"
Bellamy looked at Suyin and smiled happily. "Yeah..." He looked back to his mother. "Is this.. a bad thing though? I know not a lot of people like fire benders." He looked down. "And I don't know why. What does dad think about them?"
Amaranth sighed and kissed her son. "Why don't you ask hi when he comes home, hm?"
Bellamy nodded. "Okay." He finally said, wiggling. "Can I go play now? I'm bored."
"Of course baby." Amaranth put her son down and watched as he left the house.
Jet sighed and put his hand on her shoulder and hugged her tightly. "It's going to be okay. We'll take care of this."
"You should go..." She finally whispered. "You need to come back before the rains, otherwise you'l miss your window. Go." She insisted, but held onto him tightly all the same. "I'm... I'm so glad you're home,"
"Yeah, me too." He released the hug and poked her sternum with two fingers.
She whined and slapped at his hand. "Jerk!"
Jet turned to face Suyin. "Keep the knife I gave you. I doubt you'll need it here. Stay close to Smellerbee and Amaranth and you'll be fine. You didn't engage frost, which is probably the best thing for us all right now. Do what you can to help and when they call the vote, I'll make sure you stay here." He looked at Amaranth for a second and then back to Suyin. "If... there's anything you want to tell me, now would be a good time. We travel light and I can't waste today. I'll be leaving before noon."

Suyin smiled back at Bellamy. He reminded her a lot of Angel's little boy. On his second birthday about a year ago they found out he was a firebender. She remembered that day very clearly, mostly because the look on Angel's face wasn't one of joy but instead fear. She knew he had probably hoped the boy would take more after his mother and instead be a nonbender, but it wasn't the case.
She was brought back to the present when Jet stepped in front of her and asked her a question. "Uh.." she said, taken aback. There wasn't anything she could really ask at the moment. Granted, there were a lot of things, but none were organized enough for her to ponder and ask about them. "N-No, I don't." She wondered about the vote and how it would go. Their society seemed based on things like that. Voting and everyone having a say. It seemed to work well.
Either way, if she had to leave she didn't want Jet to follow her or come along. He had done enough for her and to have to tear him away from the Freedom Fighters when he just got back would be unacceptable.
"Just be safe," she said, looking up at him. She slid the jacket off and handed it to him. "Here, you'll need it back since it'll probably be cold. I don't need it anymore, thanks."

Bellamy didn't look happy. "Jet?" He asked. "Do you really have to leave?"
"Yeah, kiddo, it looks like I do, I'm sorry, but I'll be back soon. Likely in a week. Can you handle that?"
"A week is forever." He pouted.
Jet turned to Amaranth and put his armor back on. "Keep her safe and make sure Frost doesn't start a riot, you know she's always into that sort of thing, she loves to cause chaos." He was exaggerating a little, but he an Amaranth had a very different relationship from everyone else.
Amaranth pulled Jet into a hug and held him tightly. "Go see Sneers and Palm, they should have some supplies ready for you. And Frost is going with you, remember?"
"Eh..." Jet shrugged. "Fine, I'll take her." He gestured toward the door. "Give us a minute?"
Amaranth nodded and went to a hook that had a cape on it. She fastened this cape with a buckle on her chest and the cape had the rest of her armor, two shoulder guards and another chest protector. The long black cape was tattered, but billowed behind her. "Very well," She lifted her son and waled from the room.
Now alone, Jet turned back to Suyin. "I will come back and they will vote to keep you. Teach Bellamy what you can, he seems to have good control over it, but I want to make sure he doesn't burn anything down. They'll blame you, even if there are witnesses that he was the one who did it."
Jet was glad she seemed to be adjusting, but she didn't ask for anything and that worried him a little. When she offered him the jacket, he softly took it and then proceeded to wrap it around her shoulders to keep her warm. "You're going to need it more than I will. Don't worry, I'll need a different jacket to go where i am, and I'm going to take the rain coat, just in case something happens." He smiled at Suyin and raised her head to look at him. "Everything... is going to be fine. I know everything likely seems like chaos to you in this moment, but that's how things get here sometimes."
