When he reached up to touch her face, she felt goosebumps rise on her skin. His fingers were a bit rough from work and handling his weapons, but they were warm. She wondered why he was taking so long to kiss her. Her eyes flickered up to meet his and found herself moving forward, leaning her head up in hopes that he would get her signal. He did, and he leaned down to kiss her. When he did, it felt like lightning hit her. Like a burst of fire exploded in her chest.
She'd never felt this feeling with Fang, and she finally remembered that kissing Jet had always felt this way. She supposed it also had something to do with the fact that Fang wanted her to be a dainty housewife, incapable of anything other than housework and raising children. With Jet, she knew that she would never have to worry about that. He would encourage her to be free and he would never ask her to give up firebending.
His hands slid under her thighs and he lifted her up, making her squeak as he did. She hadn't expected him to lift her, but it made sense that he did. She was shorter and bending down in such an awkward way probably hurt. Her arms slid to wrap around his neck, pulling him closer. He smelled like the forest. He didn't kiss her delicately, like a noble. He kissed her like the sun was never going to come back up. Like they were going to disappear suddenly and end up on the opposite sides of the world. And with all of that, it wasn't overwhelming either. It was perfect.
When the kiss finally broke, her cheeks were flushed. "You're a way better kisser than I remember," she said. Not that she didn't remember him as being good, but this had gone far beyond any of her expectation.

The kiss broke when she moved and he let her pull away, but didn't put her down. He held her in his arms, something he wished he could have done for a long time. A smirk came to his lips and he watched her closely, her reactions, mostly in her eyes. She did love him and it was strange to see it come across her face. "Yeah, you're not as good as I remember." he teased, laughing a bit in an attempt to make her laugh. He leaned forward and kissed her once more, simply, shorter than the previous kiss had been; just brief and sweet.
"I'm glad you're back and I don't care how long it took." One of his forearms braced under her so she was sitting on his arm and he ran a rough hand over her face. Jet was a laborer, a fighter, his hands would never be smooth or soft. They were rough and covered in callouses. It was what he was, and somehow, her skin felt softer in his hands. After believing she was with someone else and that he'd never see her again, he was surprised at how he wasn't upset. Toph and Aang had lied to him every time he'd seen them, they knew that Suyin wasn't married. How the hell had they not told him?
He shook his head and looked back at her, watching her lips. He tilted his head slightly and leaned back. This time, he took a few steps back and rested against the balcony, balancing her on his hips. His hand moved from her cheek to her lips. His knuckles moved around her lips, slowly, softly, diligent in his task. He used his thumb to brush the lip stain off his knuckles and did so until he had removed all of it from where it had been smudged on her face.

Suyin smacked his shoulder. "Still an ass like I remember, too," she said, but she still laughed none the less. Then, she followed him into the another kiss. This one was much more playful and sweet. It made her feel warm and happy. There was nothing really that could bring her down at this moment. For once, everything was in place and she didn't have a care in the world. She knew that it wouldn't be long before that faded, but she was okay with going through whatever it was she'd have to go through as long as he was beside her.
Her hand reached up to touch his, the darkness of his skin contrasting hers. Her fingers slid down the burns on his arms. They were healed but still visible. Seeing them always brought on a pang of sadness, but she knew that he wouldn't have done anything differently. He was that type of person. Suyin was sure he would have jumped into ten more burning buildings if his friends were in them. Even she would never trade away her scars. At this point, they were like badges.
"Thanks," she said with a giggle, not realizing that her makeup was smudged. There was a bit smeared under his lip that she wiped away with her thumb. Then, her hands moved to pat his chest. "So, wanna show me the rest of your house now?" she asked, gold eyes curious.

Now she touched his arm, the burns that healed but never went away. Somehow, it reminded him of Katara, of her warnings that he would never fully heal and, additionally, there was nothing cosmetic that she could do for him. He'd be scared for the rest of his life. And he was fine with that. What was one more scar to add to the collection, the trophy that was his body.
"Suyin, I'm surprised at you," He teased watching her closely. "If you wanted me to take you home, you could have just asked." He kissed the top of her head as he placed her back down so she could stand. "If you wanted to see my bed, you should have just asked." He saw her turn red and smirked to himself, delighted he had the ability to cause such reactions in her, that she could light up like fire in such a way. It made him feel incredibly happy that she was here and he had her. Jet missed her.
Now, he approached the edge of the platform. "Come on, we have to climb down if you want to go inside." He moved down the ladder and glanced up at her to ensure she was following. He knew she wouldn't fall, but the view of looking up at her was a good one, even though she wore pants. Once they were down at the level of his house, he walked across the porch he'd built, which was much larger than Amaranth's and could hold a great deal more people, he went to the door and opened it. No locks, no keys, just like all the other houses. None of them had locks and in the two houses that did have them, they didn't bother using them. The only locks they did use were animal proof locks on food storage.
Once they were inside, the house was incredibly large. It was bigger than it looked from the outside and the center of the tree was visible, a reddish brown bark that radiated warmth from the center of the structure. The main room was fairly clean, but there were a lot of books and other things, mostly huge volumes of papers, collected on the table, and this trend seemed to continues. The books were history and mythology books, laws of various regions. The papers were mostly agreements, contracts, money management, and other Freedom Fighter essentials he was responsible for.

Suyin blushed at this, smacking his arm and fumbling out of his grasp. "Can you really blame me?" she asked jokingly. "My last partner was awful." She followed behind him as he moved to leave the balcony. She waited until he was down the ladder before she came down, dropping off when she was close enough to the floor. When she got down, she dusted off her hands and looked around. He was a bit off, walking across the porch. She followed. Because it was so dark outside, it was really hard to see far off the patio at the moment. However, she knew that it was probably a really nice view.
He opened the door and she walked in. Once they stepped in and he lit the lights, her eyes widened. "Wow," she whispered. The interior was even more beautiful than the outside. She walked through the room, eyes wandering around. The skimmed the table full of paperwork and she smirked. It was funny to see him having to deal with so much writing when just two years ago, he'd been unable to. Needless to say, she was proud of him. He'd been an amazing leader before, but he was even better now.
She skimmed over the titles of the books, seeing a large amount of mythology and cultural books. There was even one on the Fire Nation.
She noted that the kitchen looked really nice too. It surprised her. While Jet could cook basic things, he was far from a five-star chef. For some reason, she hoped he'd put an oven in it. Her eyes wandered to the living area next. The house had a fairly open plan, curling around the large tree trunk. The furniture, she could tell, was all hand made. By him, likely.
Overall, it was very beautiful and clean. He wasn't the type to hoard a bunch of unnecessary things and it showed in his living style. He had what he needed and enjoyed and that was it.
"You built all of this?" she asked, turning to him. He must've had help. She couldn't imagine building all of this alone. Then again, she'd seen more shocking things come from him.

Her last partner was awful? That made Jet feel slightly bad for her, especially since he seemed to have been such a bore. Then again, Suyin said he was like Sokka, and Sokka was all talk and no action. Somehow, a lackluster performance didn't surprise him all that much. It however made him incredibly curious as to how serious she was about staying the night with him. Was that a serious offer? Did she really want that? Was that too much too fast? Then again, they'd been pining after one another for years. It wasn't surprising at all that she wanted him as much as he wanted her.
As sudden as this was, it was definitely welcome.
Jet looked surprised at her assumption. He got some water and poured her some before drinking it himself. "What makes you think I must have had help?" He teased with a grin on his face, easing himself into one of the taller chairs near where she was, examining the kitchen. "Yeah, I built all of this, it's mine, isn't it?" After all, he had no other way of making sure everything was how he wanted unless he had done it himself. That was part of the reason why it had taken so long for him to do all this, because he had done it himself. Many, almost everyone, actually, had offered to help him more than once, but inevitably, he said it wasn't needed. They had other things to do and this was something he did mostly in his spare time. And he loved it.
Most of this had been therapeutic and he enjoyed making things. It calmed his mind and gave him reason to focus on something exact and precise.
"I thought you'd be more impressed by the house than that I built everything in it." He teased, leaning forward and taking hold of her wrist. He pulled her toward him and then softly kissed her temple and wrapped an arm around her. All he wanted was to hold her, considering he hadn't in quite a while.

Suyin took the glass from him, taking a sip. "Well I didn't really think you did, but it's just...crazy to think you did all of this. And in only six months," she said, pulling herself up onto the seat beside him. In this light, she had the chance to really look at him. She found herself drawn to his face and his features and she tried her hardest not to stare at him. He was so much more attractive than she could ever recall. She didn't know what it was about him and why she had ever gone for anybody else.
"I'm impressed with everything," she said, looking at him. Even you, she thought playfully, but she didn't say it. "It's just a lot more impressive inside. I mean the exterior is beautiful too but in here is amazing." She smiled at him. "I couldn't even imagine something like this, let alone build it. You're really talented." When he put an arm around her, she moved to sit a bit closer to him, enjoying just sitting with him. Frankly, she still couldn't even believe this was happening. It would likely take her until the next morning to realize it was real.

Jet softly ran his hands over her waist. Having her close felt good and it was not a feeling he was willing to give up with ease. Somehow, he felt it was by some miracle that this happened and he couldn't see it happening. He couldn't picture them being together in all the times he had considered this in the past, but he could definitely consider it now. It was so strange, having her here with him, against him, watching him and looking oh so in love and happy. If there was anything he could do to keep her smiling, keep her happy, he would do it without thinking about it.
"Thanks." He wasn't sure what to say about it. The house was his and while he was incredible proud of it, he didn't think it was all that impressive. People did things like this all the time, they built, they created, they went on. "I'd build you a house too, if that's what you wanted." he smiled at her because he honestly meant it. "The house I made for you still exists, but I tore out the walls and expanded it into a warm area and converted it to a place where large scale cooking can be done. Like roasts and things like that, you know?" He smiled at her. "If you.. wanted it back, I could figure something out."
Then he swallowed and softly touched her chin to encourage her to look into his eyes. "Unless... you wanted to stay here with me?"

Suyin wasn't bothered by the idea that the house he'd made her was converted into something else now. She'd only stayed in for a short period and then she'd been gone, so it was good that they repurposed it. She moved the water around in her glass, looking down at it.
She didn't know where her sudden burst of confidence had come from. Perhaps it was his hand on her waist or what he'd said, but she somehow didn't feel at all nervous. "I think this house is big enough to fit me too, if that's okay with you," she said, eyes flickering up to meet his. "Or I can stay with Amaranth. That was my original idea," she added in to take the pressure off of him. She didn't want him to think that she had nowhere else to stay. While she wanted to stay with him, if he was busy or needed the space, she'd be fine to stay with Amaranth or someone else. After all, it'd only be until she left to teach again. Though something told her she'd be back soon after.

Jet watched her, softly pulling her bangs from her face so he could see her without having to look so far down. He wondered if she meant she would stay with him permanently or just for a short time, but he had the feeling no matter how long it was, it would be worth it. So he shrugged his shoulders coyly. "I wouldn't have offered to let you stay if it wasn't what I wanted, but I've waited two years, I can wait as long as it takes." He wondered if that was true, if he could keep waiting, would be able to wait if she did choose to stay with Amaranth instead, yet he had the feeling that's not what she wanted and she would indeed wish to stay with him. There was no way he'd have gotten a kiss like he had if she didn't love him. And after this long, well, the heart wants what it wants, and so does the body.
The desire to kiss her again blossomed and he wondered if it would be too much, so as much as he wanted to, he didn't again. "Somehow, I have the feeling that you can manage wherever you go, which is something you've always had." He wondered if she was hungry, but from all the food at Amaranth's place, he doubted she still was. "I'm... really glad you're here beside me now."

Suyin smiled. "Well, that's great, but I don't know if I want to wait any longer," she joked, turning on the chair to look at him. While she would wait as long as it took to be with him, she knew she'd hate every moment of it. After having seen him again, it just didn't seem plausible to her. She smiled and pointed at the kitchen with her thumb. "You have a really nice kitchen, but nobody to keep it warm. It's really sad," she teased. She enjoyed baking more than she did cooking, but if it meant breathing some more life into the big lonely home, she wouldn't mind.
Then, she smiled at him and took his hand. "I'm glad to be beside you," she said, lacing her fingers through his.

Jet laughed, "Is... is that your subtle way of telling me you want me to build you an oven?" He asked taking her hands in his own. Once they were holding hands, he moved, following her as she led him into the kitchen. "I wouldn't mind that, as long as you make me something sweet." Not entirely subtle, but Jet had never really cared for sweets, except for the things she made. However, it wasn't something he grew up eating and they sometimes made him tired if he ate too much of them.
"So tell me, darling, if you're going to breathe some life into this place, what exactly do I have to do to channel that fire?" he moved around her so he stood in front of her, staring down into her eyes in the flickering light of both the fire and the various candles he had around. "Surely you want something more than a giant oven."

Suyin smiled. "Well, if you insist," she said, laughing as she followed him into the kitchen. It wasn't strange for him to offer her something like. He'd built her one before when she'd stayed there and in return, she baked him dozens of tarts and cakes. Baking to her was like woodworking to him, something relaxing that helped her pass time when she had nothing to do.
She smiled and turned around, pulling herself up onto one of the counters so that she was higher and closer to his face. She thought about his question then. "Just somewhere that feels like a home," she said. In the last year, she hadn't stayed somewhere for more than couple of weeks so the term 'home' became very loose. She loved it, of course, but she thought it'd be nice to have somewhere to come back to at the end of a long week. Somewhere that wasn't across the ocean. She leaned up to kiss him then, smiling coyly. "But, if you put in a fireplace, I wouldn't be opposed to it," she teased.

She move through his house like it was hers. Suyin was comfortable, confident, happy. There was nothing that made him happier than this. Seeing her, here, happy, the only thing that could make it better was if she stayed, and it appeared she wished to. What else was there in this world?
Jet laughed a little, because he did have a fire place. There was one that was burning not far from them, but there would be another that might interest her. He eyed her, curious as to see her reaction. "There's a fire place here," he whispered, moving beside her, leaving against the counter to reveal the small embers in the hearth not far from where she sat. Of course, he had the feeling she saw it, she was a fire bender. However, his home had two chimneys and he had the feeling she had seen it. "The other is in my bedroom, and there's no fire in it."
Perhaps it was assertive to say, but she had the option to blow it off, which is what he expected of her. He picked up and apple and took a bite from it, since he hadn't eaten as much as the others since he had just arrived, but he did have a bite before he went to Amaranth's place for the promise of his friends and more food. Suyin was definitely worth more to him than all of that, so he didn't complain.
As he bit into the green apple, the juices spread across his lips. He chewed and swallowed and then offered it to her. "Want a bite?"

Suyin's eyes flickered to the fireplace. "In the Fire Nation it's considered bad luck to have an unlit fireplace in the house. My grandparent's house has four fireplaces and they're all always lit," she said, taking the apple when he offered it. She took a bite and then handed it back to him. The sweet and sour flavor of the apple was refreshing.
Then she smirked. "Are you asking me to go light your fireplace?" she teased, swinging her legs lightly as she sat.
