It sounded entirely strange to Gevanni. Then again, he was only a Laiman, someone barely taught about the church, and not nearly as important as one would need to be to be taught bishopry or anything similar. Maybe what Near was learning was similar to what the Pope must know in order to be the voice of God. Of course, he could also be entirely wrong. He mostly avoided thinking about the Nahulian Goddess.
His mind trapped a little by the feel of Near's too-warm skin under his hand, he found himself answering honestly. "...I don't know. My own religion teaches that there is only one God, and that we shall have no other gods before Him. I haven't really considered beyond that, or even really thought about it too much." He smiled, apologetic. "I've been far too busy for bible studies right now, and trying to reconcile your religion with my own would take a while."
"Of course, the easiest answer is to say that whatever your supposed Godess does is in fact some action of my own god misinterpreted. But... Well, that might be insulting, so I don't really want to bring it up, you see?"

Near listened calmly to this explanation and remained silent. It was curious, the contrast between their two faiths. The goddess was the strongest, but there were other smaller deities and many of them. Somehow, Near found himself liking the answer and slowly nodded, agreeing with the human's assessment. "I can agree, not wanting to talk about it. I heard your mother once, saying she thought I was ill and that everyone encouraged it." He looked down at the hand on his body for a moment and licked his lips in thought.
His gaze rose to meet Gevanni's eyes and he watched him closely for a short time. "I think you are wise and very sweet to think so highly of me as you do, without confronting or fighting me. It would be disastrous if we should disagree on something like this, all things considered. You are respectful and kind. A natural leader and representative of your people. My father will enjoy meeting you."
Then, Near realized what he said and his face turned slightly red. He couldn't break eye contact with Gevanni however, so their gaze remained locked.

"Well there we go. Religious tolerance observed." Gevanni nodded, as if something were set in stone. Of course, knowing his mother, that would be broken within a month's time. "My mother's... Well, she'd very strict about her religion. And, in our religion, there is a powerful force of evil. We call this force many things, but the devil is one of them. And the devil has been known to possess and control people from inside their souls. This is how he breaks other's faith, how he devours souls, sometimes. It's... It's not a fun thing to watch or think about, and what you go through reminds my mother quite a bit of this process. So it scares her." He shrugged, "That's why. Please don't take it personally."
More praise from those soft lips, and Gevanni was feeling drunk off of it. His head swam with the idea that Near might feel something akin to the pull he himself felt. His face burned pink, and Gevanni felt the flush of heat that signalled a blush himself. Those dark, dark eyes swallowed his attention, and he felt almost like Near were begging him for something.
He felt the magnetism between them draw him closer, the heat between them reminiscent of that moment in the kitchen. Gevanni's hand shifted just a little lower, the tip of his middle finger right above where a person's diaphragm might be. He beathed, shakey and wanting, and their lips inched closer and closer.

The devil? The explanation was captivating and Near felt it would make a good story, a people who feared losing control of themselves and blamed an unclean entity. Somehow, he could see this being Wedy's fear and realized why she felt such fear and why she always asked how he felt whenever they saw one another. He felt that meant she cared for him and worried about him, so he did not question this and accepted it, seeing it as a sign of her affection, rather than her distrust in his faith. "I do not take it personally. thank you for being honest, it is good to know that she spoke from fear. It means she cares and it also means that she will likely not act unless is forced to do so."
Near could see the flickering of Gevanni's eyes, across his face, to his lips, down his chest, to where Gevanni's hand was on NEar's chest. Now, Nears started started to race and from where Gevanni's hand moved, he would be able to feel both of Near's hearts, located slightly to the right side of his chest. One heart was above the other, so the bottom of his palm was over one and the tips of his fingers just barely touched the other. The hearts always beat in unison, but now they were slightly rushed. His face flushed and his pupils expanded. He leaned forward, mirroring Gevanni's movements, so he moved his head in the same way, but the opposite direction. Until, suddenly, they were incredibly close. He could feel the human's breathing and without hesitation, he closed his eyes and moved forward, lips softly brushing against Gevanni's.
Almost on instinct, NEar's hand came forward and touched Gevanni's prominent jaw, soft hands brushing his unshaven jaw. The feeling of his hair was oddly satisfying and it bolstered Near's confidence, allowing him to lean closer to the human who responded to his kiss rather than pulling away from it.

"I'm sure she-" He never finished the thought, trailing off instead as his attention focused on something else entirely. Focused instead on the man in front of him, with his long, elegant nose, and his large, dark eyes, and those soft petal-pink lips. Gevanni's heart pounded in his chest, and he wished he could reach in and silence it, but at least he could feel Near's heart pounding just as hard. He found himself releived that atleast he wasn't the only one terrified and exhilirated by what was about to happen.
The split second before, Gevanni's mind conjured the thought that they shouldn't do this. And then they were. Then Near had moved forward, and Gevanni as well, and their lips brushed, and Near's hand was on his jaw, and pulling him closer, and Stephan felt his hand move without his permission to wrap around Near's waist, to tug him closer, to hover over him, as he kneaded those soft lips with his own, fire in his veins and Near as warm as a summer's day in his arms. It felt so strange, to kiss someone. It'd been so long, he'd almost forgotten how good it felt, how like home it felt. He huffed out air through his nose, shifting to reposition himself a little better, the hand on Near's lower back keeping him close.

Near felt oddly entwined in this man. Nothing he had experienced up to now had been like this. He had secret kisses, hidden behind temples and trees, child-ish love and crushes. He had awkwardly learned to kiss, laughing at his own incompetency because he thought it would make getting over the embarrassment easier. However, no one he had ever kissed was this much older than he, no one he had ever kissed was an adult, and no one he ever kissed was so this breathtakingly gifted. Throughout the process, the hands on his body, being pulled to straddle the human's strong hips, and wrapping his arms around the human's neck, he never once realized he hadn't been breathing.
The feel of the human felt colder and colder, but he realized it was his temperature rising, his body growing warmer. He clenched his eyes, trying to lower it, not wanting to hurt Stephan, wishing desperately that he would never hurt him. But the human's rough hands never left his body. And his lithe body squirmed under that touch as the hands started to feel warm again. His white eyelashes fluttered slightly and he pulled back just enough to exhale a rather hot gust of air before immediately inhaling and bringing his lips back to the others. The kiss was incredibly warm and somehow more satisfying than anything Near had experienced up until this point. He found his hands softly wandering the scratchy jawline covered in corse hair and discovered that he loved the feeling on his fingers, the sensation of it against his palm.
One of his arms was resting on Stephan's shoulder, his hand lost in a sea of black hair, holding his head as he kissed him, feeling his skin melt into the shirt he'd made.

Intoxicating. Bedazzling. Bewitching. Oh so very, very perfect. Gevanni couldn't imagine a kiss better than this. For a few moments, he thought that his heart was actually flying out of his chest, that his skin was oozing away from him to try and get closer to the young man in his lap. When had that happened? When had the prince climbed this close to him? He could feel the other's belly against his own and it was even more thrilling this way.
A blast of furnace-hot air, and Gevanni shuddered, lips brought back to his own, and he pushed further, dragging his tongue along the sweltering heat of Near's lower lip. The hand trapped btween the two of them shifted, wrapping around Near's back and shoulder, to hold him as close as he could get.
And then, just like that, the spell broke, and Gevanni sat back, using the hands previously gripping Near to pull him away. He took a deep breath, and forced himself to really think, REALLY THINK about what he'd just done. "Near, I-" He took another breath, short of them when Near was so beautiful, his lips plum and almost-bruised. "Near, this... You're a PRINCE." He tried, trying to get across why this wasn't allowed.

The sudden closeness of them, the length of Gevanni's arm up his back, holding him as close he could get him, clamped on his shoulder as if he would float away or evaporate entirely was incredibly thrilling and insatiable. Near trembled just so under the strength that held him and let out a shuttering gasp, "Stephan..." And in that moment, he opened his mouth, feeling the tongue graze his lips, curious and wandering.
And all too soon, hands braced the curve in his waist, and with thumbs pressed to his stomach, the prince was suddenly pushed away. He gasped, grabbing the hands on his sides and looked down at them, confused and unsure why he had been drawn back. And the stuttered at the followed made him raise his dark eyes to the lips that tried to describe something. And when that something stumbled out, confused and mournful, Near looked saddened. The defense was warranted. This is what made him a good diplomat, a great leader for his people. Of course, Stephan was right. This was not something that would be allowed. They could not carry on this way and expect anything to work out with any sort of civilized outcome.
Should his people find out he had feelings for a human... should the priest's find out the goddess' vessel had these thoughts, these feelings for a refugee that crashed on this planet... And goddess forbid, his father find out. Near could not even begin to imagine the consequences. So he looked down, mostly at his own thighs, trying to distract himself from the shame he knew he should feel for reacting solely on the physical and ignoring the logical. He swallowed heavily and nodded, his grip tightening on the hands that had yet to leave his waist.
"Yes... I-I apologize. I'm ashamed." Near finally looked up at Gevanni. "I should not have taken advantage of you in such a way and for that, I am sorry." Now the prince tried to move, to slide back off Gevanni's lap, but found himself unable to, the hands still holding him.
"I.. won't do such a thing again."

Torn. It was the only way he could describe the feeling ripping through him at this moment, and Gevanni wasn't a man who was torn very often. He made decisions, and then when those decisions had results, he re-evaluated. He was smart, and sure, and this... This was everything he wasn't.
Near looked so uncertain there, as he spoke of shame and taking advantage, and Gevanni wanted nothing more than to kiss him again and comfort. He wanted to make this boy sigh and moan with pleasure, and he also wanted his people to survive and thrive. They weren't mutually exclusive, his downstairs brain told him. Columbus and several other conquerors had been very, very successful with marrying their way into survival. But at the same time...
"Don't be ashamed." He begged, leaning forward and pressing his forehead into the boy's shoulder. "This was a mutual mistake. I...My attraction to you is equal, if not maybe more so, than your own, I promise. I just... I have to think of my people. And... if your father decides to wage war on us because I couldn't keep it in my pants?" He joked on the last, trying to ease the tension of all of this. "I do care for you, Near. I do. I just..."

The softness and affection that followed was surprising to Near, not because it validated Gevani's feelings, but because he did not deny them, to make this easier or to change the way things had happened. He looked at the man whole held him in an embrace and returned it, closing his eyes and savoring this moment, knowing it was not likely to happen again. This was dangerous and they were playing at something far more complicated than if they were compatible, and Near knew for a fact that they would be.
Both of them felt the same attraction and reacted to one another. It meant they were compatible. It meant they could be together and from an evolutionary standpoint, they could make beautiful strong offspring. Could... but never would. He held onto the man, rubbing his back as they embraced, for, what Near felt would be the last time. At least, the last time like this.
"I understand. You need not explain why this will not work. My people could destroy all of yours for far less than something like a relationship between us and I understand the consequences of this, even if we somehow managed to keep it a secret." He ran his hands through that beautiful hair and briefly touched the beautiful man's face, running a thumb softly over his lips, staring deep into the eyes that looked enchantingly blue in that moment.
"We must both think of our people, and I understand your position. I felt... the need to be selfish. I want you, more than I have ever wanted anyone." And it was the truth, no point in denying it or trying to cover it up. "Our position is much the same. You are a leader and so am I."

God, Near's skin was like a furnace, warm and supple, and Gevanni couldn't stop his thumbs from rubbing over the prince's hipbones. A part of him screamed to let this happen anyway, if they were never to have this again. If he was never to hold the prince again, to kiss him again, then shouldn't he just sit back and let whatever happen happen? His boner certainly agreed with this thought process, and he had to fight with himself mentally to keep from shifting.
"It's very, VERY hard to be a good leader." He lamented, even as Near's thumb rubbed over his lips, sending a tingle down his spine. Near's lips were parted. Selfishness be damned, he wanted to kiss them again. "Selfishness..." He sighed, closing his eyes. "What I wouldn't give for more selfishness from you. If you asked it, I'd pull down the stars from the sky." A fancy line he'd read in some book when he was a horny preteen, and now, now he got to use it on a beautiful alien prince whom he would never get to kiss again. Life was unfair.
"I wish there were a way." He murmured, and felt guilty the instant he said it. "I know there isn't. But I wish there was. You're so sweet, and kind. So... So perfect."

Near smiled, bemused by the choice of words and moved his head, drawing Gevanni to look into his eyes. "If it is hard to be a good leader, than you're hard enough." He teased, childishly laughing because he knew exactly what Gevanni felt, for he felt it too. He said he would give him anything, would rip the stars - the galaxies themselves from the sky if he asked him to. So, why couldn't Near just ask him for this? If they never spoke of it, never mentioned it, never kissed, or touched, or were alone together in the same room ever again, could they not have this? This one, beautifully and utterly thrilling experience? Could they just have sex and just pretend it hadn't happened?
And then came the doubtful, unexpected deny of all Near had thought. He could live with it. Pretending he had never had sex, denying how much he adored and wanted this human man. And somehow, he shook in his lap, utterly defeated and sad. Part of him wanted to much to cry and the other part wanted to kiss him and rip off the clothes he wore in protest of what had been said.
"I know what I would ask..." Near finally mumbled. "I would not ask for the stars in the sky or myself before your people." He whispered, rotating his hips in a circular motion, almost identical to dancing or sex. The motion broke Gevanni's grip on Near's hips and the prince stepped back on the bed, still on his knees, so he lowered himself out of Gevanni's lap and to the somewhat soft mattress. He sat there for a short time before, feeling slightly awkward, stood up and started to straighten his clothing.
And, he wanted to run. He considered darting out of the window through which he entered and never coming back. Still standing, he looked over his shoulder at the human and wondered what he was thinking. "You're perfect too. I'd rip apart the stars to ensure your people would be safe."

A laugh escaped him, and it was delightful to realize that Near had a sense of humor that could be just as dirty as his own. It was delightful to realize that his anatomy didn't scare Near, and in fact, incited awful, amazing jokes. And then the joy melted away to sadness and shaking. He lifted his hands, rubbing along the wings of Near's shoulderblades, as if to warm him from the cold of their situation. He swallowed hard, and wished he could fix this somehow. He could feel something building there, in Near's frail body, and he knew that whatever was said would hurt him worse than any injury he'd gotten so far. He loathed it.
Near's words did hurt. Such a simple request, punctuated by something so seductive that it literally wiped all thought from mind, his throat releasing a groan so animalistic it might as well have been a goddamn mating call. And then, Near was gone from his lap, and his body felt instantly colder. A shudder ran through him, and he put his hands in his lap, half to hide what was obvious, and half to keep them from reaching out to Near.
"Don't say something like that when you have a goddess living in your bones." Gevanni teased, his smile sad and small. "...Maybe one day, things will go our way. We have time." He wanted to take Near's hand. "Plenty of it."

That laugh drew Near closer, oddly enticing for what it was. They both laughed and thought the joke was funny. They both knew about it and they were both excited. They both wanted his and yet for their respectively people, they fought and pretended that this was not what they wanted. No, rather, they acknowledged what they wanted and denied it for the good of peace and their people. After all, horrible things could happen in a situation like this. There had never been a situation where marriage had been forced on this planet to stop a war or create an alliance. They hadn't had need for such things because the King always had authority and could shut down any quarrel or strife. He and the goddess were absolutes.
When Gevanni acknowledged the goddess, Near covered his plum colored lips without noticing and felt both aroused and confused. He acknowledged... The goddess or not, Near would give anything for this creature and he wanted. He wanted him more than he wanted anything else. Goddess be da-... he trailed off, ashamed and scared of himself, of the power his desire, the desire the goddess put within him. It was said that the chosen always loved more than any other, as they held the goddess' love for all within them. That it would be normal for him to fall in love, perhaps even more than once during his life.
But there was no one else. Just as Misa had only ever loved Light, Near somehow knew he would only ever love Stephan in this way.
Near looked down at the ground. Time... It seemed that was one thing they did not have. "My... My brother told me that your people can only live for a hundred years. Is that true?" He wanted to hear those words from one of them. He didn't want the hear the second hand story had they were called mortals because their lives where so insignificantly short. He didn't want to hear that if this did not happen now, it would probably never happen at all.
Softly, Near raised his hand and his knuckles harassed Gevanni's hand, wanting to hold it. "One day.." He repeated softly. "If your people find a way to leave, I will have you before you go..." He decided, as if there was no room for negotiation. "And then I will always know that you were mine and I was yours. That I am yours."

Somehow, Gevanni felt a wash of dread slide over his body like an inky black spill. 'only' live, as if there were another way to live, another life to live. He swallowed back a tiny bit of existential dread. "Well... Yeah, We usually only live to about a hundred. We've had records of people living to 150, but they're very frail and old." He licked his lips. "I take it... that doesn't happen with your people?" He asked, frowning, worrying at the pills in the blankets on his bed, as if removing them would solve all of this.
Then Near's fingers touched his, and he desperately wanted to hold Near's hand. So... he let himself. He turned his hand over and caught those worrying fingers in his own. Near's promise made his mouth go dry and his heart ache in his chest. "...Alright. Before we leave." He promised, which gave him the stength to wait, to hold out, to try and remember why he was doing all of this.
"Near... I think maybe... you should go home for tonight." He smiled, "And come back when you have a chance. It'd be best, you see? A fresh day, a fresh start."
