Near felt strangely disappointed to know this. "It does not." He replied softly. "While the king before my father died incredibly young, his life span was incredibly short. The king before him lived to be well over 1,400 years." He held the hand, relishing the contact that they could have, that they could have this at the very least. After all this, the desire and the mutual attraction. "We can live over 1,000 years with great ease." It felt so odd to say, that Gevanni's lifetime seemed almost a blink of an eye compared to what Near's could be. It was incredibly sad and somehow, Near found himself dreading the human leaving. Would that mean they would be stuck here until Gevanni was old and frail. Would they even be able to have something if and when the time came for the humans to leave the planet.
Now, Near suddenly became aware that he had to help them. He had to given them a way to leave so that he may have this man. It meant he could see him more and that they could spend time together. Perhaps, Near thought, when the ship was almost finished, they could stray, just a little, to be together for a short time before they would inevitably have to leave.
"I think... you're right." Near replied. He moved back. "The rains will be ending soon, and my father..." He paused. "He wants a select group of you to come to the capital to meet him and I volunteered you, Mello, and Lawliet to go, above the others. The choice will be yours, inevitably, but I do think that it would be good for you to see our cities and the festival. It is a long ordeal, so perhaps you could come on the last day. I will speak to him. He does not want many of you in attendance."
The boy leaned forward and softly left a warm kiss on Gevanni's lips before darting out of the house and back into the rain.
The following week and half was relatively slow, and soon enough, the sun started to shine through the clouds of the last falling rain. The festival started and the goddess returned to her place in the sky. Near had completed a great deal of training during the rains and with the sun out once more, his hair seemed to glitter with the goddess' continued influence, making him immediately recognizable as her chosen. So, when Near ran into the human settlement in the peak hours of the morning, dressed in white silks and jewels, he shook Gevanni softly. "Hey, you have to wake up." He said softly. "You have to get ready and come with me for the start of the festival. You don't want to be late."
Matt had told them it would be today, and that they had to be awake before dawn. Mello promised to wake Gevanni earlier, but... he had gotten distracted for a while.
Mello darted into the room, surprised to see Near and hesitated. "H-Hey Gevanni... sorry, man. Slept in too." He rubbed the back of his head, his hair slightly wet from showering. At this moment, Mello was shirtless, wearing clothing that Matt had brought him. It was plain, but ceremonial as to not insult the Nahulians when they arrived for the party. Matt had also brought Gevanni clothing to wear to the festival.
"Come on, Near. Let's let Gevanni get dressed, hm?" He wrapped an arm around the white haired prince and escorted him out of the room.
Near then stopped, staring at his brother with strange confusion. "Matt?" he asked. "When did you get here?"

There was entirely too much commotion happening in his room right then, and Gevanni groaned, loudly. He even went so far as to grope for the slippers he kept by the bed and toss it at the three noise-makers. This of course, hit Matt square in the head, causing him to rub his head. This sent the numerous bangles and bracelets on the red-head's arms to jangling, which only made waking up worse. Eventually, as the older two herded Near downstairs (he hoped to make coffee.), he got up. The clothes had been left by his bed, on the chair that sat directly in front of his even-messier desk. The earth-simulation plant was kind of... dying. The water here wasn't a good enough approximation of earth water. They'd discovered that while pink water was drinkable, after a few months it would prove not enough. So he'd already started having the humans supliment a cup of black water a week to cover this defficiency.
/.../
Downstairs, Matt rubbed his head again, the bangles displayed through the open see-through, veil-like sleeves of cloth that connected to the wide, thick collar around his throat and chest and shoulders. He'd forgone his usual coverings that kept his chest and belly a secret, and bared them now, instead, along with the wraps that covered his genitalia. His legs had been painted with swirling, dotted designs meant to invoke people's gazes. "Well uh, I uh...-" He didn't have an answer, because he'd spent the night with Mello in their little hide out.
"I got here an hour or so ago. I thought they'd have plenty of time to get up and ready. But I suppose I wasn't keeping track of the sun as well as you were, little brother!" He praised, clapping Near on the shoulder. "You must have ran very fast to get here."
Gevanni finally tramped down the stairs, looking very, VERY out of sorts in the odd wrap and the beaded armbands Near had brought for him. "...Are you certain I can't wear a shirt?"

Mello stayed silent and in the back. Since Matt had picked his clothes, they were on par with what warriors were, since that's what Mello was to his people for the most part. A white covering that wrapped his hips with a gold belt. He had very little jewelry on, just his cross that he never took off and a single bangle that Matt had put on his write the night before.
However, now shirtless, Mello realized how much different his body looked. Helping to hallow out the tree and build the oasis inside of it had taken a fair amount of work, not to mention the physical activities that had taken place inside of it. The constant supply of black water increased his strength almost double and this reflected in the muscle structure and definition of his body. While he was not entirely fit, he had formed a distinct line around his abdominal muscles and his arms looked like he could break walnuts.
Near turned to look at the human as he came downstairs. He could hear his heartbeat in his ears. He slowly swallowed as he looked at the strong, hair covered human before him. It was actually... the most he had ever seen of Gevanni's body. He found it interesting that the human had hair on his chest, but a lot of them had hair on their bodies so it couldn't be so strange, could it? He swallowed heavily again and smiled. "I-I don't think we have time for that, but... once we reach the city, I can see if something can be arranged. We... we should go. Are we all ready?"
Of course, this was met with Aletta darting into the room and hugging Near, pressing herself into Near's back and turning him to face her. She leaned forward to kiss him, but since he was now taller than she was, he simply leaned back and raised his head.
This stunned Aletta and she looked up at him, slightly upset at his movements. She pouted, but smiled. "We're all ready! Let's go!"

Matt had spent most of th enight worshipping and paying homage to the changes in Mello's physique, but his wasn't the only one changed. Even the most basic exposure to excercise, fresh air and the black water that Gevanni and the other humans had had recently was enough to wreak a change. Gevanni had once had a bit of a beer gut. Now, Now he had a six pack. What the hell. Well, not entirely, it wasn't nearly as defined as say, Mellos or Matts, but it WAS there. And he was sure as shit awkward about that.
Not NEARLY as awkward as seeing his sister walk in in nothing but a sheathe of nearly-see-through material and a NECKLACE covering her breasts. "Aletta! That's!" He managed to stammer out, "That's innapropriate, young lady!"
She huffed, turning her head, already in a bad mood from Near's rejection of her kiss. "Shut up, Gevanni! This is what ALL the women in the city wear! Near told me so!" She smirked, "You're just jealous because I'M the pretty one."
Gevanni rolled his eyes, and shook his head, "No. No, you're not going unless you cover all your bits. That's... I-It's not appropriate for a young lady to show off her..."
"Breasts? Bazongas? Titties. Money makers?" Aletta offered, and with each subsequent name Gevanni's face turned a shade closer to puce.
"Stop it!" He finally cried, glaring at the girl. "Just... Adjust the dresss so that it covers them. Or you aren't going."

Near watched how flustered and upset Gevanni became. He tilted his head, curious and entirely in wonder of why this man was so uptight about his sister's body. He knew that Gevanni had no inclination toward Aletta in such a way, but it certainly seemed as if it interested him. Perhaps it was just their strange ways. He pulled a gold sash from his own clothing and took Aletta's hand gentle, spinning her around. Without asking, he lifted the cheer material and carefully wrapped the sash around her breasts and part of her waist.
Once he finished, the sheer material fell over her and left her body covered and censored in a way that he was sure Gevanni would approve. "Can we go now?" He asked, a little worried. No telling what would happen if they were late. Being princes, one the heir apparent to their father and the other the next high priest, it was very clear that nothing could start without them and their absence would be immediately noticed. They had to get there or they would get a ton of shit.
The trip through the forest was fairly brief, as they took a route through the woods. At one point, Near stopped and his eyes caught sight of a strange fallen tree that he swore was hollowed out for some reason. He suddenly saw Gevanni and smiled because he was so glad to have him close.
They arrived at the festival, a little rushed and just slightly out of breath, Matt now carrying Aletta: despite her wanting to be carried by Near.
"Don't... say anything to my father." Near bent down to whisper to Aletta. "If you hear voices, don't say anything. You're not going to be able to understand what's being said. We will translate for you later."

Alletta pouted the entire trip, which Matt found entirely unfair, what with him having to carry her for most of it. He found himself pouting lightly as well, because he wanted to carry Mello, if anyone. As it was, she squirmed, and she kept cutting off his breath with her arms. Really, it was the worst feeling. That, and the slight panic of them nearly coming into contact with the Log Paradise... Well, Matt's hearts were beating really hard.
The arrival at the festival, however, was greeted with awed gasps from all three of the humans, and THAT filled Matt with pride. He had to admit, the city had outdone itself. Jewels draped across walkways like silken spiders thread, catching the light of the thousand torches and sending it scattering across the grounds, people roused and dancing already, the pounding drums a constant heartbeat to the day.
The square in front of the temple, with it's sacred steps, were decorated with flowers and strings of pearls and gems, and the light of so many lamps dwelling in colored paper made it all seem mystical and more beautiful than anything. Already on the dance floor couples and singles spun and swayed, dancing and clapping to the music. Matt grinned, pointing it out to Mello. "Dancing is the biggest part of the festival. Everyone takes a chance to sneak onto the floor, kings included."
Their footsteps carried them up the sacred stairs, the two of them rushed along by the ceremonial guard, who all stood watch. Their guests were tugged along after them, and they stopped, halfway up the mountain of steps, at the dias set aside for the King of Kings, the Tlatoani. Light sat in his chair, having sat there for nearly an hour now, a table in front of him filled with fruit. "You are late."
His voice bore no accent whatsoever, and Gevanni had to wonder who he'd kissed. His eyes roamed over the aliens among his people, and he raised an auburn brow. "These are the three you bring me? The soldier, the Herbalist, and the Engineer?"
"Yes father. Although the engineer was unavailable. He has fallen ill from the rains damp. We have instead brought the herbalists' younger sister. May I introduce Aletta Gevanni," He swept an arm allowing Aletta to step forward and bow. However her eyes didn't leave Light's face, and a light blush betrayed her. She found giggles on her tongue and words bubbling up. "W-Wow, I didn't know the King was going to be so gorgeous... J-Jeeze, the way everyone talked about him, I was expecting an old scrooge!"
Light's eye twitched.

As they went up the stairs, Mello was in awe of the city, the jewels, the smells, the structures they had built. Hell, even the flowers smelled incredible. Everything looked beautiful, far beyond their wildest dreams. Apparently where they were staying now was not something that had once been a settlement or city for the people who lived in the city now. The people watched them as they entered, some with interest and others scared. The one benefit they did have, Mello supposed was that two of them were blonde and had blue eyes. This was favored in this culture, as they were considered goddess touched.
He and Aletta fit that description. Mello learned a great deal of their culture from late nights with Matt, mostly spent naked, twisted in sheets.
While Mello would never say it, Aletta was right. Light as gorgeous and he could see exactly where Matt had gotten it from. Their facial features were so similar it was almost as if one was a copy of the other, in a strange and almost more attractive way. What made the difference in their features was the contrast in Matt's hair, the fact it was red. Mello loved that and as attractive as this king was, Mello didn't think he was as attractive as his love. And he glared in Aletta's direction.
The anger in the king's face was apparent and Mello reacted, forcing Aletta to lean forward and bow to him. "Forgive her. She is not yet of age and doesn't yet understand the importance of holding her tongue." He gave Aletta a warning look and only then allowed her to stand. "Apologize."
"Oh, I don't see why she should apologize." Naomi teased as she walked up the stairs, following the others. Then, she laughed. "Girl, what is that ridiculous sash you have about your breasts?" She put a hand under Aletta's chin and raised her head. "Come with me, my dear girl. I would like you to meet some girls your own age. My daughter is just a bit older than you." She looked at Light and smirked at her Tlatoani for a moment.
Then, she spoke in their tongue, "I have completed what you asked of me, Tlatoani. There is no dangerous substances of viruses in their blood. It appears they are no blood borne illnesses that are dangerous to us now." She hooked her arm with Aletta's and started to walk with the girl down the stairs, pulling at the ribbon around her chest, commenting how it would not do for the celebration, especially into the evening.
However, it was Mello who glanced to Matt for a moment. He leaned toward him and whispered, "How much blood could she have possibly tested? We only gave her a few samples."

Allette yelped at being pushed into a bow, and actually reached back to smack Mello's hand off of her head. This was met with an amused huff out of the king in front of them. This amusement immediately turned sour, and the poppy-eyed king of the Nahulian race glowered at the presence of a beautiful woman. He contained it behind a mask of indifference, but it was easy enough to see that GEVANNI understood that there was history here. He wondered who dumped who?
The woman's comment about his sister's breasts though drew an unhappy noise from him, even though her own breasts were out and about, flashy as can be. She'd even PAINTED them, or something. He hoped those weren't tattoos. He hoped tattoos were not a thing children could get here. ...He needed to ask NEar about this as soon as possible.
Matt, however, snapped his head to Mello so fast, in abject terror, that it was almost impossible not to notice. "Mello..." He breathed, trying to keep quiet. It was clear that he was torn between demanding how Mello understood the language, and keeping his father from KNOWING how Mello understood the language.
Aletta, however, was absolutely enthralled, too busy to notice Mello fucking up linguistics. "My brother doesn't want me showing off. Says it's 'innapropriate'. Which, in his dumb religion it is, but I'm happily an atheist, and I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to dress how I want to dress!"

Mello saw the look on Matt's face and wondered what was wrong. So he said nothing in the presence of the King and nodded, showing he understood they would talk about this later. Apparently it was more important than he thought? Or it was a secret. Who the hell knew. Matt had huge flashes and changes of emotions sometimes. It was a little overwhelming.
Near watched Aletta leave with Naomi and he sighed, smiling slightly before turning to look at his father. He then went up a few stairs so he was standing beside his father's throne and leaned forward, whispering to him. "I have something to tell you later, assuming it hasn't been ruined by the priests." he smiled at his father and looked into his eyes with joy. "About my training."
Ryuuk appeared moments later, putting a hand with long, crooked fingers on Near's shoulder and turned the boy, stepping down a few stairs with him. Of all the people currently living, Ryuuk was undoubtedly the tallest. Near just now reached the man's abdominal muscles. He kneeled in front of the prince, disfigure face meeting the glowing face of the prince. "Well, well... it seems you are indeed Yectli, my boy." His fingers softly ran over Near's face and moved his white hair from his forehead. The gesture seemed almost intimate and he then ran his hands over the heavy medallion around Near's neck, adjusting it just so.
"You surprise me more and more the older you grow. I never expected you to be the one to replace me. I must say... I am... satisfied to learn it will be you over your brother."
Near smiled at Ryuuk, somehow finding those words incredibly touching, as Ryuuk was not a sentimental man. "Thank you. Have... you told my father?"
Ryuuk chuckled his eerily, fairly chuckle. "No, that honor shall be yours." He stood them and looked to the mortals. He waved his hands. "You should all go now. Enjoy the festival. I will keep your father company."

Light's eyes widened, as his youngest son came forward. It was apperant to anyone looking that the man loved the child greatly, leaning forward and reaching out his hands to him as if to hold him close. "Your training?" Light asked, curious as to what it could be. It had to have something to do with the permanent discernable glow about the boy. All priests and priestesses looked healthy, their skin more bright, their faces more keen to laughter. But Near... well, he had once looked a step away from death, and now, he looked like a star set to burn for millenia.
Sadly, the answer was short lived, because Ryuuk drew the child from the King's side. Gevanni stared in awe and terror at this scarecrow of a white-faced man. He looked as out of place as any person could, and honestly, looked like the Devil himself might appear. Gevanni couldn't stop himself from making the sign of the cross and thanking god that his sister was nowhere near this devil. Eight feet tall... everyone in this place was tall, but this man... There was just something... wrong to him.
"I see you've finally decided to join us, Ryuuk." Light said in the mortal's tongue. "This, mortals, is the Maktoani, Ryuuk. He is the Goddess' voice on this earth." Although the goddess had not spoken through him for years. To be fair, Light wasn't sure she would speak through anyone since his wife had died.
Matt tugged at Mello and Gevanni as soon as they were dismissed. The better to get them out of his father's sight. He needed to talk to Mello, NOW. He needed to make sure the blonde was alright.

Near smiled at his father and looked at the others as they retreated. He decided to save the secret for later in the festival, so he glanced to his father keenly and then turned and took off after his brother, playfully, laughing. It was a great announcement, but it was something that could be made publicly later and he liked to see the look of wonder and utter curiosity on his father's face. Somehow, it made Near feel more important. It made him feel special.
Ryuuk again chuckled as the four left. He watched the humans with suspicion, especially the one with dark hair who turned back to face him. "Well, it seems Near wants to keep it a secret." Somehow, he thought it was because Matt was there. Of course it would make the boy jealous. "Shall I tell you and you may act surprised when he finally does?" The Maktoani asked, sitting on the steps beside his Tlatoani, which of course, made them around the same height.
"You seem happy, my Tlatoani. What is on your mind?"
Mello felt Matt pulling his arm and when they reached the bottom of the stairs, Mello stopped and grabbed Matt's arm to make him stand straight. "What?" He asked, a little miffed about being held so tightly. He rubbed his arm where he had been squeezed. "Why are you so uptight all of a sudden?"
Near took Gevanni's arm when they reached the bottom. "Come. I wish to show you some of our plants and produce, just as I promised." He led the man by his arm, bringing him to various stalls and merchants who had a wide variety of fruit. Oddly enough, whenever Near moved just so, the rays of sun caught his skin and they glittered like gemstones. It was not a constant glitter, but happened usually mirroring his emotions, whenever he was happy, and especially when he laughed.

Being forced to stay still forced the redhead to look around. Near and Gevanni were off in some direction, leaving Matt alone with Mello. He took Mello's hand and ducked the two of them into one of the many nonceremonial entrances to the temple. Hopefully, they wouldn't be spotted there. "Mello, you UNDERSTOOD my language. How? I know I taught you a few words-" Most the words for Love, lover, and 'fuck me harder' "But you shouldn't have been able to understand her. Are you certain your people have never shared languages before?"
The word was an odd place, the sun rising on a festival filled already to the brim with light. Gevanni couldn't help but feel as though he were being given something sacred by just being in this city, by being there with the boy of his dreams. Near was so beautiful when happy, and it was like he sparkled and shone. Ah... wait. "...Near, you're shining." He breathed, blinking in confusion. "Is... is that normal?" Maybe it was a type of cosmetic? Either way, it distracted Gevanni away from the fruit and food being offered to them. It distracted him from the plants, and that was rare.
"It's beautiful." He stated, before Near thought he was complaining about it. "I've never seen someone so radiant."
"I am happy because my people are happy." Light lied, smiling up at the entirely-too-tall Maktoani. "As for Near's secret, let it be a surprise. I am entirely sure I know what it is already, but let him have his fun." He sighed softly, "He grows to be more like her by the day." Mentions of his goddess touched wife were rare, because honestly... Light had not loved her. She had filled a void in his life, and she had given him sons, and she had been a companion. But she was never truly the one he loved. Now, he had Near, and he grew to be more beautiful and shining each day.
"Tell me. What are your predictions for his reign as Maktoani?" He asked the high priest, curious as to what Ryuuk saw.

Mello looked surprised at this revelation. He thought back on what he heard and then realized he had done the same thing Matt had done. He understood it and just tossed it up to it having been in English, but it was not english he heard. His eyes widened now and he looked almost worried. "No. We... we don't share languages the way you do. We have to read and study them, for years to perfect them. I grew up learning English and Russian, so I can speak them both, but it took years for me to learn italian to talk to Gevanni and L in secret..." He couldn't believe he had understood something in Matt's native language. And he had understood an entire complex sentence. He felt as if he was sweating and suddenly nervous.
"What does this mean?" He asked, taking one of Matt's hands and holding it for a moment. "T-Talk to me..." He let go of Matt's hand and moved his own in a circular motion, as if to mean 'go'. "Speak to me in your language."
Now, Mello had to know what he understood.
Near turned, lifting his head to meet Gevanni's eyes. He laughed softly and spun around, the incandesce of his skin changing as he moved. "It's a side effect, of having the goddess inside of me." He took the man's hand and very softly let Gevanni's hand touch his shoulder. The people they stood before were incredibly surprised by this and one of the women there asked him something and he smiled and nodded. She put a single hand on his forearm and left it there for a few moments. She bowed her head and started to pray. When she finished, she smiled and thanked Near, smiling at him.
"It's... not really something that all of the chosen have, no, but they all have brighter skin. I think I have it because I'm... so pale." He laughed, because most of his people, like his father, were incredibly tan. Near's skin, unlike the majority of his people, was pale and it made him stand out, just as his hair did. The mention of radiance made him blush and he suddenly smiled, glad to have such a compliment from this incredible and beautiful man. He wanted to kiss him then and there.
"T-Thank you." He looked down at the ground for a moment. "H-Here..." He pointed to something and it was offered to him. Then, Near pulled a knife from his thigh and cut the fruit open. When he did so, it made the sound of water crashing in a cave and he offered the fruit to the italian with a hole cut in it. "Drink the liquid inside."
Ryuuk watched the Tlatoani curiously. The lies he told amused Ryuuk, as Light had never been very good at lying to him. Even when Light was a boy and would come to the temples to pay and offer tribute, Ryuuk always seemed to know, as he was a great deal older than the proud Tlatoani who sat before him. But he said nothing of the people and Light's lack of affection for them. He could see the glittering gem just barely through one of the tent flaps and he grinned to himself.
"Ironic, though... how much like her he seems." Ryuuk agreed. "At first, I thought they were so different. Near is not so emotional and does not blindly charge into things as she did. He is more methodical and calculating." Like L, it went without saying that's how they both felt. Even now, Near had such an approach to his studies and structured his lessons and time with the goddess, which increased the efficiency of his training, which was excellent, considering how much he had left to go. It made Ryuuk curious. "What do you think his surprise is, if I may ask? I will not tell you if you are correct."
The question of his reign made Ryuuk consider this. "It is... complicated. From what I have seen, he has two paths, one very long and happy, I suppose you could say, the classic that everyone wants..." He tapped his chin with a long finger. "but another is slightly darker than that. I do not know what causes the change. I would assume that it is made by the mortals in some way." He gestured to where Naomi and the girl were now looking at neck pieces, some slightly more conservative since Aletta was still young and Naomi didn't want to upset Gevanni too much. At least, not now.
"All the same, I do see great things for him. He has not been able to channel her successfully, but he is young and has quite a bit of practice ahead of him. He will learn, I have no doubt."

The blonde's reaction to this information was very similar to Matt's, except for one thing. The prince knew what it might mean for their people. Mello's request for him to speak in his own language was like switching from one foot to the next, and he didn't even have to change how he breathed.
"This is terrifying, Mello! I don't know what my father will do if he finds out that our people cannot keep secrets from yours any longer. Or worse, if he finds out what you and I have done." He could only imagine the sort of rage his father would have for their tryst. ...But what was worse was imagining that he wouldn't care at all. That he would just wave a hand and say 'do as you like', as if Matt were some idiot child who knew nothing, and therefore could affect nothing. His hand tightened on Mello's without concious thought, and he focused again, focused on Mello and the situation. "You have to promise me you won't eavesdrop. OR speak in this tongue. Promise me!"
/.../
Light watched that 'glittering jewel' as well, as he spun and danced, as he gave the mortal some odd fruit or somesuch. Light wondered when it was that Near had grown so beautiful. "He is the best of both, it seems. Perhaps L returned to me , and stole some of Misa to bring along with him?" He laughed, a prideful thought. Of course L would not return to him as his own son. How irrational a thought.
"I believe his surprise is that he has been chosen as Yectli. He thinks that I won't have noticed the glow in his skin, the fire in his blood. Ah, children. They think we notice nothing that they don't want us to notice." He gave a sly grin to Ryuuk, who has never had children of his own. He'd wondered about that when he was younger, but now knew better than to care. "He will grow into his position as Yectli. And he will be far greater at it than his mother ever was. Did you see how active he was during the rains? She rode him as sure as she ever did Misa, and yet he didn't falter. If anything he seemed MORE energetic."
/.../
"The liquid?" He asked, letting his hand slide from it's place on NEar's shoulder. He took the fruit, and then let it drain some into his mouth. The flavor surprised him, and he shook his head, "What is that?" His mind spent a few moments, trying to categorize what it was he just drank. "What is... I mean really, what is that?" He laughed, shaking his head. "It's... IT's really good!"

Mello understood. He understood every word that left those beautiful lips and he wasn't sure what scared him more, that he understood or the implications that they would cut off his head for understanding. How had he learned so quickly? Was it because they were together, because they had sex so many times and had made themselves a lovers nest with the intention of being together for as long as Mello was there. And he regretted none of it. Mello knew all too well what would happen if this information got out. They would execute him. Likely painfully, from the stories Matt had told him. By fire, or bleeding him like some prized language comprehending hog.
He laced their fingers together briefly, not knowing who could see them. "Shh..." HE said in English. "I've never speak in your language. Comprehension is not the same as speech. I won't say anything unless I'm sure it's said to me in English. I'm... I'm sorry... for the position this puts us in." He smiled, trying to alleviate the red head's fears. "Now come on. Stop worrying and show me around. You said you had something you wanted to show me. Well, on with it. Let's go!"
Ryuuk watched the young man who he still saw as a boy. "He is taller than I thought he would be. Apparently the council have learned a thing or two since I have gone through such training." Ryuuk was of higher rank and had no time to train Near. IT was also forbidden so traditions could not be altered or tampered with. "I do enjoy the light inside him, however. He is powerful.
The mention of L made Ryuuk feel vaguely upset for just a moment, but he was a better liar than Light ever was and hid it. "Yes, but somehow I feel L would not insult you so as to come back as your blood. A love like that... well, I think he would wait for you so you might return together in the next life, wouldn't you think?" It was a thought, a playful thought that would no doubt bring at least a smile to Light's lips. Ryuuk learned long ago how to make him smile, to make Light happy in some small way.
"He is already confirmed as Yectli. The surprise is more than that, and you shall see." Ryuuk informed, putting a longer finger over his lip, as if he was afraid to reveal a great secret. "Indeed he does. The strength he has with her inside him is unheard of. No document or record has shown a Yectli or Maktoani has been so active and strong during the rains. Perhaps his age, but somehow I doubt it. When she first used his body, I thought..." he paused. "Forgive me, but given his size and inexperience, I assumed he would die before the rains ended. And yet, here he is, stronger than I have ever seen him, laughing and glowing like a second sun. Misa would be proud of him, but not, I theorize, as proud as you are. Does it disappoint you? That Near will not be able to succeed you?"
Near smiled, watching Gevanni's throat dance as he swallowed. It made him feel such pleasure to see the look on his face, how much he enjoyed it. "Your people... would consider it something... like wine, perhaps? But a very fruity and floral one. It does not intoxicate, however, it aids the liver and gives it strength, helping to remove impurities and toxins from the body and heal the body. It grows in abundance during the rains, that is the only time when they grow. They will sell the harvest and people will buy this out entirely within the next day or so."
Things like this thrilled Gevanni, and Near was delighted to join in with his happiness. "It is also good for the mind." He thanked the woman again. "Shall we go stall by stall until we go in the complete circle?"
