Soul said bye to the band while Maka was on the phone, and they took down his number. They weren't mad and it seemed like they had forgotten his outburst. They mentioned wanting to visit Death City some time, and Soul said that it was cool. He did warn them however that they had a sexy cat and that he and Maka didn't have a very large apartment. The band laughed, as if they didn't believe it. But whatever. They'd certainly believe it when they got there. And... technically he supposed they could always stay with Kid or something. Liz would love the idea. She loved musicians, and had good taste in music. Patti too, but she didn't seem too interesting in dating.
"Uhh..." Soul mumbled, looking around. He caught notice of a street sign he recognized from the night before and nodded. "Yeah, this way." He grabbed her hand and started to walk with Maka at his side. A smile met his lips and he sighed. The festival was still going on, and it didn't take long until they were back in the heavy, blurred crowds. But he remembered where hew as going. He was a man, so he was fucking good with directions! "Are you excited for your girl's day?" He teased, pulling her a little closer to him.
Patti smiled at him Kid and tightened her arms around his shoulders. "No, she likes white and pink lilies. But she likes Orchids too. They don't grow in Brooklyn though. Not for very long. They're hard to keep alive and they die easily. They might live in the desert." She said with a small laugh. Patti knew that Kid would buy Liz anything she wanted to make her happy. Watching her sister go into the kitchen, she sighed, hearing her put two glasses on the counter. "Yeah... Big sis has never asked for anything before. I'd do anything for her, but she would never ask me for anything." It sounded like Patti was almost depressed by this, and she was. Liz was strong, but she wasn't selfish or needy. It was just in her personality to ask for something. Not if it mattered to her. She was willing to get get it herself, but she didn't rely on anyone. Instead, she just took care of those around her. That was why she did everything she could to make Patti comfortable and Kid happy.
"I wonder what it'd be like to have the moon..." she said, thinking it over. "I wonder what would happen if you asked her for something like that." Patti teased, smiling at her meister. "Liz does a lot to make you happy too, Kid. And if she loves me, it means that she feels something for you too, right?" She suggested, standing up and letting him go. Blue eyes watched the shinigami that looked both shocked, but was struggling to compose himself.
"What're you two talking about?" Liz asked, offering Patti a cup of juice. "You didn't tell him you were going to bring something home, did you? Patti..."
The younger weapon laughed, shaking her head. "Nope! I promised Kid that I would be good! He promised me a dog and I want to make sure I get it!"

Maka stayed close to him to avoid getting swept away by the crowd. She clasped her hand around his and let him pull her through the crowd. He seemed to have an idea of where they were going, so she just let him lead. All she had to do was focus on staying beside him and not losing herself within the hoard of people. Like he had said, the festival seemed to still be going strong. How they were going to get around this and still find his bike was completely lost to her. Looking up at him when he spoke, she blinked and then smiled. “Yeah, it’ll be relaxing. Liz wants to go shopping and I think maybe I can indulge and spend a bit too.” Despite that her and Soul had nowhere near as much money as Kid and the Thompsons did, they managed to pay rent and still have a bit of money left over for leisurely things. Sure it wasn’t a lot – especially when you subtracted money for groceries and such – but it was enough for them. Neither of them spent heavily, usually both having enough in their accounts to last them awhile.
Truth be told, Maka was looking forward to buying a few pieces of new clothing, something she didn’t do often. For one, most of clothing fit her constantly since she had stopped growing a while ago. Actually, if she wanted to, she could probably fit into the clothes she wore in middle school. Not that she would, since those things weren’t really too tasteful currently. The only time she couldn’t fit into her clothes was when Soul has accidentally shrank some of her shirts and one of her skirts – which she hadn’t noticed until she’d put it on and found out that it was much shorter than it had been. And second, she didn’t really need a walk in closet full of clothes. She wore her school uniform to school, and while at home she liked to lounge around in shorts or a pair of sweatpants – and sometimes, one of Soul’s shirts which she stole after doing a load of laundry. Going out it was a skirt and maybe a nice shirt. But other than that, there wasn’t much use for fancy things. She didn’t date, so there was no need for her to dress to impress. The only time she did that was when Shibusen had some sort of formal.
“Step right up, step right up folks! With just one toss you can win any of the prizes displayed above!”
Kid looked over at her. “Oh, lilies,” he said, feeling a bit downhearted that he’d gotten it wrong. But Patti hadn’t given him the name of the flower she was talking about, so he figured it was an orchid, since they were flowers that pointed to the sky. Either way, if it were lilies that she liked, then he was going to have to figure out a way to work them into their home back in Death City. He supposed it would be a good idea to buy her a bouquet for their dinner that evening. He could swing by a flower shop before he took her out and pick out a nice looking bouquet – one that was symmetrical of course – and present it to her. He only that what Patti was saying was completely true. He hoped he hadn’t misheard. If he brought the wrong flowers and she was actually allergic to them, he didn’t know what he would do.
He looked back at Patti, laughing lightly. “It wouldn’t be very nice, at least I don’t think so. The sun seems more tolerable. It makes me wonder what the moon has to be so cynic about. Perhaps it’s because more dark things happen during the night when he’s able to see them. Or it may be because he’s closer to Earth than the sun, and therefor he’s able to see the imperfections and disasters that we’ve created here.” He was pretty sure he was thinking aloud now, but he couldn’t help it. The boy cleared his throat and sat up when Liz came back with Patti’s juice. “Oh nothing,” he replied nonchalantly. “I was just letting Patti know about what I told her. She was just telling me about the breeds of dog she liked and I guess I dazed out. Sorry, Patti.” Looking at the short haired blonde, he smirked. At least she was on his side right now. Blurting things out to Liz would ruin him, especially if she learned of the questions he asked. Maybe she would be offended that he didn’t know them? Then again, no one had ever told them, so honestly there was no way for him to know.

Soul smiled as they moved through the crowd. "Yeah, I'd like that. You should get something nice. I was going to get you a gift card to get clothes, instead of books." Maka loved books, and Soul used to get her giftcards to get them all the time. It was what she wanted. But he was starting to notice that she didn't have a lot of clothes and she needed them. Maybe he just thought that because he lived with her and reconized every article of clothing she had, and had seen her wear all of it. For another person, they wouldn't notice it all that much. But they went on missions together, and lived together, and went to school together. He knew everything she had.
And she knew everything he did. It was bad that Soul honestly had no idea who had more clothes: him or her. So she was going to buy clothes. "I have extra money, from one of the missions I went on when you had a fever a few weeks ago." It was nothing special, just a mission he went on with another Death Scythe. It was more training then fighting and it was to help him adjust to what would soon be his position. Luckily, he;d gone with Marie and not with Spirit. And he had fun on the mission. Marie was sweet and made the best milkshakes ever. (yeah, that totally made him happy).
"I'll give you my card. You can spend up to 150 on yourself, as long as you buy me another leather jacket. Make it thinner than the one I have though. I get hot in Death City." He grinned at her, sharp teeth gleaming in the bright sunlight.
A vendor said something, and not too long after a girl exclaimed not too far fro them. Soul was admiring one of the girls in the dunk tank a ways away. She was blonde; and she was wearing a baggy shirt rather than a bikini. The size of the shirt made her almost look flat chested (which he denied to himself). SHe fell in the tank, white shirt suddenly see through and something slammed him on the back of the head. He turned, expecting to see Maka holding something, but instead a guy was staring at him.
"Sorry dude!" He exclaimed, jogging over. "I didn't mean to hit you. It bounced off the side and flew out. Are you alright?"
The death scythe ruybbed the back of his head, muttering. "I'm fine." He stated. This time, his girlfriend walked over. "Wow, he's totally cute. You have sexy eyes. Where are you from?"
"New York, originally." Soul answered, shrugging.
Glaring, the boyfriend tried to win his girlfriend a prize once more, but threw the ball at Soul, trying to hit him again.
Instead, Soul grabbed the ball as it came toward him and threw it back, knocking down three different towers of bottles. A pleased grin appeared on his lips. "Take that." He said back and a bell went off.
"WE have a wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinner!" The announcer called into a microphone. "Come over here, lad. Pick out a prize."
Rolling his eyes, Soul glanced to Maka. "That's all you. I know you liked stuffed animals."
Patti giggled. "Big sis doesn't have any allergies. Besides, she'd be happy to accept anything you gave her." She said, happily. That was true. Liz was never ungrateful about a gift, especially if Kid bought it for her. The first year they stayed with him, he bought her a dress for her birthday and Patti had never seen her sister happier, and she still had the dress. It was worn, and she'd repaired it dozens of time, but she still wore it, mostly around the house or to sleep in.
Fake pouting, Patti sipped her juice. "That's not fair! Why did you zone out. I want a big dog." She nodded, as if that settled the matter and Liz rolled her eyes. As she drank her juice, Patti smiled at Kid and walked past her sister. "Tsubaki! I gotta talk to you..." She stated, slinking out of the room. She wanted this to go well, and Blackstar wasn't helping. Then again, she knew that Tsubaki had more control over him then she thought she did.
Liz watched her sister leave and sighed, shaking her head. "Sometimes I wonder why she hasn't stolen a dog yet. And I mean that in a sense that she kept it, even after you found it." Staring at her meister, a strange feeling overtook her as she realized they were alone. Normally, that wouldn't have bothered her, but she found herself with nothing to say to him and noticing that this was not the first time Patti had left them alone. What was she planning?
Not a second after she thought that, Patti returned, hugging her sister from behind, squeezing the elders breasts together with the force of her embrace. "Okay big sis! When we go out tonight, we're going to rent some movies that we don't have in the hotel. Then we're gonna have a marathon ALL night when you and Kid get back from dinner, okay? and you HAVE to watch with us, no matter what!"
Liz laughed and nodded. "Alright Patti. I'll watch a movie marathon with you." She ruffled her sister's messy hair. "Have you brushed your hair yet?"
Patti pouted. "Yeah, but you haven't!"
"Do you want to brush my hair?" Liz asked.
Looking toward Kid, Patti nodded. "Of course, I'll---"
"Patti!" Tsubaki called. "Can you help me with something for a few minutes? I need to help clean up Maka's room. Black Star destroyed it last night. I want to make sure she doesn't notice he went through it."
Patti pouted. "Okay! Hang on a second." She looked at her sister. "Sorry big sis! Later!"
Once they were out of the room Patti yelled. "WHAT?! How did he do this all in a short time? What was he looking for?" There was a loud yell from Black Star who expressed his conquest of the room (but failure in his mission) soon followed by Patti and Tsubaki sighing.
Patti returned to the kitchen and gave Liz a brush. "This might take a while. Kid... please stay in the kitchen." She ran out of the room before he could follow and slammed Maka's door before locking it.

Maka stopped walking when he did and looked up. “Ah – that’s alright, I’ve got enough in my account. I don’t want a lot of things,” she replied, listening to him. A new jacket? She smiled. “You’re going to trust me to get you a new jacket? You sure I’d be able to make it fit your standards of ‘cool’?” she joked, prodding his side with her finger. “I’ll get you one though and make sure it’s Soul approved.” She caught him staring at something and she wondered if he’d even heard her. Her eyes traced the path that his had created and she noticed that he was watching the girl in the dunk tank. Oh, right. Girl in a white shirt being dropped into water, how could she expect him to not look? Looking away with a sigh, she stood to the side awkwardly, not exactly too sure of what she was supposed to do while he continued his gazing. “Look, I hate to interrupt, but we should probab – “ She stopped when an object flew past her and smacked him on the head. Well, that was one way to get his attention. Maybe she should thank whoever did it since she didn’t have to waste her energy hitting him herself.
Watching the incident play out in front of her, her eyes flickered between them as they spoke. She rolled her eyes. Did every girl they meet have to seriously flirt with him? Her lips set in a grim line as she crossed her arms, seeming rather irritated. Soul threw the ball then, accidentally winning the game. Her green eyes widened a bit as she realized what he’d just done. It all happened quickly enough that she hesitated and glanced around as if she didn’t know what was going on. Then he was motioning for her to pick out a stuffed animal and when Maka turned her head to take a look at the prizes, she was instantly met with a wide variety of various different animals, none of them small. “Oh!” she gasped, stepping forward. The man running the stand greeted her then, telling her to pick something. She looked around for a bit, deciding to settle on the panda, when she noticed the big gray shark tucked near the back, its animated grin displaying a row of pointed teeth. It looked like a cuddlier version of a Great White. Smiling, she pointed at it, telling him that she liked that one. He used a large pole to get it down, handing it to Maka and thanking Soul for playing. Oh wow, Maka thought as she held the stuffed animal. It had appeared much smaller up on the display. Holding it, she realized just how big it was. Satisfied with her new pal, she headed back over to Soul, holding it out for him to examine. “Ferocious, isn’t he? I think he kind of looks like you,” she mused, turning the animal around to face her.
Kid finished off his breakfast. “She better not steal a dog. If she does, she won’t keep it and then I won’t let her have one of her own,” he said, looking over at the eldest sister for a moment. Then he returned his eyes to Patti, narrowing them as he leaned in toward her. “No, Patti, remember you said that you would love a small dog? You were just talking about how you would love something nearly hairless, quiet, and clean. Then I suggested a goldfish and you told me how that was a great idea and you wanted that instead.” Getting up, he picked up his plate and the rest of them, taking them to the kitchen to get cleaned off. Once they were in the dishwasher, he came back to the dining room where Patti and Liz were still seated. A movie marathon? He questioned internally. That didn’t seem all that bad. Maybe it was good to stay in one night and watch a few movies. Kid wholeheartedly agreed with it, wiping down the table as the two sisters spoke about their plans that evening. He made sure it was spotless, placing the centerpiece back where it belonged once he was done. He folded the cloth and placed it back in the kitchen, returning to find them talking about brushing Liz’s hair. However, when Patti came back with the hairbrush, she was called out by Tsubaki.
Somehow, the hair brush had ended up in his hand?
He blinked, unsure of how it had even gotten there. He hadn’t even noticed Patti slip it into his hand. He watched her run down the hallway, wondering what had just happened. Wait a minute…things didn’t add up. Why would Black Star even be in Maka’s room? Surely there wasn’t anything in there that he needed to locate. It wasn’t like he could steal one of her shirts and wear it, or fit into a pair of her pants. He’d probably already stolen enough of Tsubaki’s underwear to care for Maka’s – especially since she probably didn’t fit his standards anyway. Maybe she had something of Soul’s that Black Star wanted? Either way, he was standing in the middle of the dining room with a hair brush in his hand and a girl who wanted her hair brushed sitting not too far away. It made sense that he shrugged and stepped forward, taking a seat behind her and bringing the brush up to her golden locks. “That was…strange,” he added with a chuckle. “Wonder why he would do that.” The ebony haired boy ran the brush through her hair gently, making sure not to hurt her. “Ah…make sure to tell me if I pull your hair,” he said slowly, feeling his cheeks heat up a bit. Of all the things he’d done with them – pluck her eyebrows, paint her nails, yada yada – he’d never brushed her hair before. Maybe it was because her hair naturally fell symmetrically that he didn’t feel the need to take matters into his own hands. Or maybe because the action itself was a rather intimate one. After all, he was sitting fairly close to her, able to see her shoulders rise with each breath that she took.
Damnit Patti…He knew she’d done something to fix this up!

Soul chuckled to himself. Yeah... Normally Maka was the last person he wanted him to buy him clothes. She wasn't all that skillful with clothes. But, Maka got cold a lot, and it ended in Soul handing over his jacket. She wore his leather jacket all the time, and she would know what to look for. It wouldn't be hard for her to get one to fit him. She knew his body, and if it was a certain size too big for her, then it would fit him. Maka was smart, and she could do this just fine. He trusted her. And he wanted a thin leather jacket. It wasn't as if he wanted jeans or something that she could screw up easily.
Soul was pleased that he won the game, even if it had been an accident. Ugh. Whatever. She could get whatever she wanted. It wasn't like he enjoyed stuffed animals. But, Maka didn't either. She had a few of them, but she didn't collect them like Patti. It was cute, in a weird way. She was grown up, but she had something from her childhood, and Soul could understand. The shark surprised him, having had expected her to get something else. Something cute. A smile appeared on his lips as they started to walk away from teh stand. "It's huge, Maka." He stated, realizing how large it was.
Looked like him? Soul laughed, rather then getting angry. "Yeah, he's positively ferocious." He said with pride. "What do you want to name him?" He asked, walking toward his bike as it came into view. "Come on Maka, what do you think would symbolize me in a stuffed animal?"
Patti shook her head. "Small dogs are boring!" She said, pouting. "You wouldn't make me get something I didn't want, would you?" But she was tempting him. She knew that he was just kidding, trying to convince her not to do something wrong. But she wouldn't. She wanted a puppy, which would be small and she could train and make it perfect. Kid wanted perfection, and she knew that if he was open to having an animal, it would make him happy too. Animals bonding to humans, and despite Kid not being human, he was like a human. Animals would bound to him just as easily. Kid was likeable and Patti knew that all he had to do was find a reason to like the dog and it would be faithful to him. He was lonely, and that's why she wanted Liz to fix it.
Once out of the room, she smiled to herself, sitting in Maka's room with Tsubaki. "Alright!" She stated, looking at the other weapon at her side.
Tsubaki smiled, but didn't seem convinced. "Patti, I agree with you, but I don't think that it's right to trick them."
"Don't worry about it!" Patti chimed. "They'll thank us later! Promise!"
Liz watched her sister do something that she'd never seen her do. W-What was that? She wondered, and then shook her head, sighing. Whatever. Feeling hands on her hair, she turned her head in surprise. "Thank you..." She stated, slightly embarrassed. Kid had never brushed her hair before. And he did a lot for her. He'd done her nails, which she was suddenly interested in, looking at the skulls on her nails. And they were perfect skulls, just like the mask his father wore, and the one he wore sometimes. A small smile met her lips as the brush moved through her hair.
"You wouldn't hurt me Kid. And you're not the type of boy that would pull a girl's hair." she teased, laughing softly. It was true. She couldn't imagine a four year old Kid pulling a little girl's hair on the playground. Leaning back so he would more easily brush her soft hair, she smiled, closing her eyes. "Are you going to make sure that my hair falls symmetrically too?" She teased. But, then the realized that Kid had never touched her hair before. Did that mean he liked it? Blushing, she was wondering if she should just brush her own hair, but she didn't want to be rude to him or make him think he did something wrong. So she was going to let him keep brushing, despite how flustered she felt.

Maka looked up as they walked through the crowd, spotting his bike near the edge of the parking lot. She gave a shrug, smiling at him. “I dunno,”she mused as he took a seat on the bike. The blonde shoved the toy into his lap while she mounted the bike, swinging her leg over the seat and settling herself behind him. She reached around for the shark, pulling it back into her lap and positioning it so that it was comfortable. Wait a minute, how was she supposed to hold onto him when this thing was strapped in between them? “Hold on a sec,” she started, listening to him turn on the motorcycle. Moving around, Maka managed to settle the stuffed animal in a way that allowed her to hold onto Soul and it. Letting him know that he could start driving, she let out a sigh of relief, feeling the vehicle start to move. Her hair began to flutter in the wind, held up in pigtails.
Her mind drifted back to what he’d said. Name it? Hmm…She hadn’t really thought of naming it. Hell, she’d just gotten it. It reminded her of Soul – that was probably why she’d chosen it – but she had no idea what to call it. Dropping her head against his back lightly, she closed her eyes for a moment. “I don’t know what to name it. Maybe it’ll come to me later…unless you have an idea or something,” she said, breathing in. He still smelled like body wash, though not as strongly anymore. He smelled more like himself now, like his leather jacket despite the fact that he wasn’t even wearing it. It had become his scent, just as that familiar muddle of notes had become his soul’s wavelength. Holding his waist, she opened her eyes just barely to look down at the shark in her lap, meeting its sewn on eyes as it stared back at her. A small smile pulled at her lips, for reasons unknown.
Kid chuckled. “Well, I meant it more as an accidental pull of your hair. I wouldn’t pull your hair on purpose,” he said, carefully working out the tangles at the ends of her hair, trying his best to make sure he didn’t hurt her while he did so. Then, he laughed lightly and shook his head. “No, there’s no reason for me to do that,” he started, “Your hair already falls perfectly. To toy with it would only demolish its symmetry.” Perhaps one of the reasons why he’d kept from brushing her hair was because he feared that he would mess it up if he touched it. It was already perfect, there was no reason for him to try and fix it. She managed to keep it well groomed on her own. Not that that surprised him. This was Liz, after all. She made sure she was bathed, dressed to impress, and well groomed. She spent enough time making sure she was like this. But then again, so did he.
Whenever he took the girls out to the movies or to get dinner and hang out with the others, he never knew which one of them would get done first. Patti, however, was done before both of them. She threw on whatever she pleased, doing her make-up and hair if she was up to it, but if she wasn’t, then she let Liz do it or she went without it. Despite that Liz had the most practical personality out of the three of them, Patti was definitely the most down to earth. A lot of the time, she didn’t care what she looked like as long as she was having fun. For her, swimming in a tank of chocolate was far more interesting than an exclusive party on some rich guy’s roof. “So um…” he paused, losing track of what he was supposed to say. “You…chocolates? I mean, you like chocolates right? Waitdon’tanswerthat. Hah, t-that was a stupid question,” he rambled, feeling sweat start to gather at the back of his neck. What kind of question was that? Of course Liz liked chocolates…she’d ordered twelve freaking chocolate cakes the night before!

Soul let her fiddle with the stupid large stuffed animal she had to have. He was patient, because he liked it too. It was sorta cool. Not as cool as him, but sorta cool... In a cute girly sorta way. Like the kind of cute that guys pretended exist to see a girl naked. They started to drive out of the city and Soul was glad that they were heaving back. Being here had been amazing, and he'd had an amazing time, but he couldn't help but want to go home and see their friends. He wasn't sure if he could deal with waking up beside Maka again.
So far, she didn't seem to know about hard ons, or morning wood. And he wanted to keep her innocent to it for a while longer. She wasn't too into guys or anything like that, so she wouldn't know. And she didn't sleep with them. So... He wanted her to keep that sort of innocence about this sorta stuff for a while longer. "We're gonna have to pull over and get gas." He told her, getting on the highway. They could make it another 5 miles before needing to pull over. he saw a gas station on the way there that had a better price tht he had seen the day before. He wanted to go there. BEcause of the highway, he couldn't talk to her. The wind resistance was too great and she wouldn't hear him. And it distracted him to talk while on the highway. She used to be afraid of the highway, but not so much anymore.
Once they were in the gas station, he shook his head. "Naw, I don't have a name." He said, putting some gas in the tank. Luckily, it didn't take much, so it only cost him about twenty bucks.
Liz blinked, confused. Her hair was perfect? That was strange. Kid never said that anything was perfect. Then again, she had rather straight hair that she always parted in the center. It wasn't surprising that Kid thought it was symmetrical. Liz had always taken good care of her hair, but Kid's compliment made her smile to herself. WEll, if he approved, even brushing it, then it had to be perfect. He was so critical... "Thank you." She stated, turning her head to look back at him, smiling. He was sweet, and she loved that about him. He was just Kid. He was honest, sometimes brutally, but she loved him for it.
A-As a friend... Not... not REAL love. That would just be creepy. He was too young for that sort of love! A-At least from her.
The silence between them was suddenly awkward and it worried Liz. Was he mad at her? Did she do something stupid. Hearing him speak, she smiled. Why was he nervous? Looking over her shoulder again, she started to laugh. She hadn't meant to laugh, but she just couldn't help it. Her hands came up to her mouth, trying to stifle herself, or force the sounds back down her throat. But she couldn't. The laugh that expelled from her was deep and real. Liz was completely at ease and she leaned forward, pulling her long hair from Kid's hands. Then, she stood and walked around the seat, standing in front of Kid, her face red from laughing, water gathered in her eyes, threatening to spill and reveal her joy. "T-That was the f-funniest thing I've ever heard you say." She said, sitting on her chair, but this time so she was facing him. Her long legs caused her knees to slide against his. "Sorry..." She said, still flushed.

They remained in silence as he drove, mainly because she was feeling a bit drowsy and also because she knew that speaking on a motorcycle while it was going over a certain speed wasn’t all that effective since he couldn’t hear her, nor could she hear him. The shark was soft and actually rather comfortable to lean against as she held onto Soul, enjoying the wind that came along with the ride. Eventually, they slowed down and she looked up to notice that they’d reached a gas station. Oh yeah, it was probably a good idea to get some gas before they headed back. Getting stuck in the middle of nowhere was never a good idea. Feeling him shift, she sat up, remembering that she had to let go of him. Her hand slid from his waist and she hopped off the bike as well, knowing that without the kickstand, she probably couldn’t support it herself seeing as her feet barely grazed the ground.
She stood to the side as he pumped gas into the bike, looking around. There weren’t very many other people. Actually, the only other person there was the creepy old man sitting in front of the register inside of the store, who was staring almost hungrily at Maka. She shivered, frowning at the man before she turned back to face Soul. However, when she looked back, he’d managed to waddle out of the store and stood in front of the door. “Hey!” she heard him shout. “Gas ain’t all that expensive round here, but I got some other stuff if ya’lls interested. I’ve got some nice merchandise back in my shop if yer wanting to take a look. Got some sweet candy for the girly there if she’d like some too.”
Maka grabbed Soul’s arm as he put the pump away. “Let’s get the hell out of here..”
Kid sputtered. “H-Hey! Stop laughing at me, it’s not funny!” he replied, his face heating up until it was a deep red color. He brought his hand up to his face, covering half of it. This was so embarrassing! Why couldn’t he just be his eloquent self around her? He never got tongue tied around anyone else besides her! It wasn’t fair. All he’d wanted to do was spark a conversation and maybe score some more information about her but he’d completely screwed up. He shook his head, watching the girl. Even with how embarrassed he currently felt, he couldn’t keep the small tug of his lips from forming a smile. Watching her laughing somehow made him feel better. She looked so radiant whenever she laughed or smiled. Seeing her this way made him a bit more comfortable and less awkward. Before he knew it, a small laugh had also escaped his throat, until he was laughing completely with her.
“S-Sorry,” he said between a laugh. “I didn’t mean to sound like a complete idiot…I uh, don’t know what I was thinking…I was trying to talk about just anything that I guess I didn’t realize what I was saying,” he explained, still blushing. He sighed lightly, finally settling down from his laughing fit. Looking away from her for a moment, he bit the inside of his cheek – he quickly had a small freak out and had to bite the other side as well – starting to feel a bit nervous again. What the hell was up with his sudden mood swings? What was he now, a girl? Either way, he wasn’t as nervous as before. Laughing with her had really calmed him down. “I guess,” he paused, “I guess I’m just nervous about tonight,” he finished rather quietly. “I shouldn’t be, but I am…Is that weird?”

Soul wasn't paying attention to the guy inside the building because he paid the machine directly and hadn't needed to go inside. It was easier, and the station wasn't self service. When he finished up, he wiped his hands on his jeans, then looked at Maka. Turning to look over his shoulder, he looked shocked. W-What the fuck was up with this dude? Fuck off man, this guy better not try anything. "Sorry!" Soul called. "We don't have time to stop." He straddled his bike and started it up. Before teh fat guy could run over to them, Soul zoomed off. "Asshole." He mumbled.
"I'm sorry, Maka. I should have been paying more attention. At least he didn't touch you, right? I'll make sure nothing bad will happen to you." He grinned at her, tilting his head to glance at her. He failed, of course, because he had to look back at the road. HE continued to drive on one of the streets and stopped at a spotlight.
A car pulled up beside them. "Hey there pretty lady!" The passenger yelled. "Why don't you ditch this creepy old man and come with us. WE know how to party baby!" He chimed, grinning at her.
The driver nodded. "Oh yeah! Come on sweetie, we could reach you."
Soul glared, shifting his foot and kicked the front tire. The driver yelled at him, revving the engine. As soon as the light turned green, Soul zoomed off and heard the car's tire spin before ti deflated. He cut it open by turning his foot into a small blade and cutting it open.
The death scythe won, which made him grin confidently.

Liz felt guilty that she'd kept laughing, but couldn't help it. Although, it didn't take long for Kid to start laughing with her too. Somehow, she felt amazing with him in that instance. "S-Sorry..." She repeated, covering her mouth blushing. "I'm not upset with you, Kid. I was just... You're so poetic and sweet when you speak. It's weird, you know? It was weird to hear you say something like that." And it was true. She had never heard him do something like that. It was stupid.
"But, you're nervous. I guess that makes sense." She continued. "I am too." She admitted, figuring it was best to be honest. "I'm worried what will happen if I can't find a dress. I know that you don't care what I wear, but I don't want to embarrass you. If we go out to dinner, then I want to look nice. If you're in a suit, then I have to look nice, you know? I want to look on par with you. Not like last night when I took a night walk in a bra." She said, shaking her head. "I don't want to embarrass you."

Maka happily jumped back onto the bike after him, glad to leave the station. She let out a sigh of relief when they were back on the road, not quite on the highway yet, but close. They stopped at a light and Maka was surprised to hear someone to their left yell at them. Then she realized that he was talking to her and she just stared, blinking because, for a moment, she didn’t know what was going on. It dawned on her that she was being hit on. Before she could really reply with anything, Soul had kicked the man’s tire and drove off. Behind her, she listened as something ‘blew up’, a loud screeching sound following as the man tried to drive on a rim of his wheel, the rubber completely gone. She sighed, not bothering to tell Soul that he might have gone a bit far. “Hey, remember when you made fun of me for lacking in appearance? Well, look at this. I got hit on by two whole guys so far; one unhygienic old man and another guy who probably has penile issues,” she said honestly. “Don’t I feel classy…”
She laughed lightly at the thought, tilting her head to the side so that her cheek was pressed against his back, her green eyes watching the scenery as they passed it. If she wasn’t too afraid of dying, she might have fallen asleep there. She didn’t remember how much longer they had one the road since on the way there she hadn’t exactly paid attention and had been daydreaming most of the time. She just knew that it wasn’t terribly far – like the trip from Death City to Los Angeles – but it was a decent amount of time on the road. With mossy eyes relaxed, Maka breathed in lightly. “Thanks you,” she said suddenly. It was quiet and he probably hadn’t even heard it, but she didn’t care all that much. Maka didn’t get out all that much aside from Kishin hunting and various minor things around Death City. She didn’t go to parties or concerts or dates like a lot of the kids her age did, so something like this had been a pleasant change, despite that she didn’t at all care to change her usual lifestyle. It had been a nice day away from duties and grown up things. The concert had been fun and she had gotten to see Soul play again. The party afterward wasn’t really what she was interested in, but some parts of it were also nice.
Kid sat there, golden eyes wide as he listened to her explain herself and the reason for her laughing. He chuckled lightly, the corners of his eyes creasing a bit as he laughed. “It’s okay…I didn’t mean for it to come out like that...I actually, had it sort of planned out in my head but when I went to say it I just messed up,” he said, shrugging lightly as he ran a hand down the back of his neck in a nervous sort of manner. “That doesn’t usually happen to me. I’m really good at communicating what I want to say but…I guess my mouth and brain weren’t exactly on the same track time.” He continued to chuckle, his cheeks still pink with color. At least she didn’t take him as a complete idiot. And…she’d sort of complimented him by calling him poetic and sweet. That was a good thing, he assumed. Girls liked poetic guys who were sweet right? That was what Liz liked? He was glad that he had qualities that she admired.
Her next statement made his eyes widen. First, he hadn’t realized that she had been nervous about too. She certainly hadn’t seemed that way either. Of course, he assumed, it was because she was going out with him and he was someone she had been around for a great deal of time and saw as a close friend. People didn’t get nervous around close friends unless they didn’t want to be close friends anymore but instead, something a bit more than that. It was the main reason why he thought that he didn’t have a chance with her. How could he have a chance with someone who didn’t feel the same way about him? But she’d admitted that she was nervous as well. Except, after that, she told him she didn’t want to embarrass him and that she hated doing so. The thought made him wonder; it intrigued him. When was there ever really a time in which Liz embarrassed him? Truly, truly embarrassed him? “Liz,” he started slowly. “You could never embarrass me. Even if you wore a one shoulder dress…it would bother me a bit but in no way would you embarrass me. You’re perfect the way you are, and you don’t have to worry about finding a spectacular dress. You make the dress look nice, not the other way around.”

((I don't know why there was a DIV in my last post? and BTW: She used to model, she's done some acting, plus she weighs a buck-o-five, and I guess that she's alright, if perfections what you like....))
Soul laughed what what she said to him and he shook his head. "Maka, don't be so hard on yourself. You're beautiful, you're just shy. And it's not just that... I mean when you're with someone who looks as mean as I do, it's much easier for them to forget it. But for girls, who bitch fight and shit like that, it's much easier for them to take on a girl like you. Or, at least they think that. And I don't know why girls flirt with me. I mean, I'm strong and I have a motorocyle, but I'm not particularly attractive. Not compared to other guys anyway." This was one of those very few moments where Soul was being honest with Maka. He did care for her, and he did want her to feel good about herself. Maybe those guys weren't the best ones that hit on her.
He'd kissed her... which was quite an accomplishment, but one he did not feel comfortable bringing up. Not after what happened... She didn't want him, and turned him down. So... Whatever. He was going to have to deal with that, right? Maka wasn't interested in Soul. Not... dating interested anyway. Which was fine. He could get over that. It would just... take some time, you know?
The change was nice for Soul as well. His concentration was less on scenery, and more on the presence leaning against his back, curled there and never wanting to leave. And Soul didn't want her to leave. He wanted her to stay there, forever. No matter what, he just wanted Maka to be at his side, as his meister. Sure he was a Death Scythe, but he wanted to be Maka's Death Scythe. That was selfish, but whatever. Death was cool, but he didn't want to be his weapon. He had Spirit, and Soul had Maka.
A soft whisper of her voice in the wind just barely met his ears, but he knew what she said. It sounded stupid, but he just knew. "You're welcome..." He mumbled to her, a grin on his lips.
Liz was glad that he laughed with her, rather then being upset or angry with her. Truthfully, she hated it when he was upset, and never wanted him to be angry for one reason or another. It was rare for Kid to get to a point where he would become physically angry, but she had seen it happen a sparing number of times. There had been a few times in battle, and maybe once or twice about things that made sense in hindsight. You know... Liz was sure that every time she had seen him angry, it was about symmetry. And... then that one small thing with Patti that just happened. Patti was the only person he'd ever fought with, and really, she had started it; as much as it pained Liz to admit. But Kid wasn't angry by nature and it took him a lot to get to that place. And, even then, he rarely ever yelled. There was just something about him, despite his humanistic qualities and inhuman body that made her admire that in him. She got mad (at him, at things, at people, at cosmetics) more often then she cared to admit. She would fume over it, and then everything would be better. But Kid... was just so understanding and accepting.
How else could he deal with both her and Patti?
"I know it doesn't usually happen to you. That's why I have to savor it. I guess even rich guys have problems expressing themselves, you know?" She asked. When she had first come to live with him, she didn't speak anything like the way she did now. It wasn't that she had an accent, she just didn't emphasize all the letters in words, she swore a lot more, and she had an unrefined way of speaking. That bothered Kid, and considering her new position, she had to rearrange the entire way she spoke. At first, she had to think about what she was saying before she said it. Now, however, she was fine with just speaking fluently. She did slip up occasionally, and would swear; Kid would make a face to show his displeasure at such language, and she would apologize.
She was only human, right?
A serious look came over his face, which immediately drew her interest and made her lean toward him, focusing on him. When he said her name, she felt her breathing hitch. Oh no... She must have said something wrong, because he never said her name like that. But, what came next shocked her. "W-What?" She asked, feeling on edge.
She stared at him, trying to regain the numb feeling that had overtaken her body. A strange feeling drifted through her heart, and her breathing faltered. "What...?" She repeated, cerulean met gold and she shook her head, feeling her eyes watering. No one ever said anything like that to her before. Not even Kid. He had never said something so amazingly flattering. The urge rose within her to kiss him, and a dark blush belated danced across her face. "T-Thank you..." She finally blinked, realizing how much her eyes had stung from staring at him.
"Y-You keep saying nice things to me that trump the one before it in level of amazingness..." She told him, knowing that the thought itself didn't make much sense. Was he always like this with her? With all the women he came into contact with? Was he always this poetic? How had she just noticed now? And how could she make him only act this way to her? It made her feel special, that he focused on her, and she couldn't help but desperately want his attention, no matter how selfish that was.
But she pushed away that desire, because Patti needed him to. There was no reason for her to take her meister's attention, especially when it could hurt her sister.

Maka giggled. “You do look mean,” she replied with a short pause afterward. “But you’re not bad looking,” she quickly tacked on. To be honest, when she’d first seen Soul, she had been a bit intimated by his appearance. It wasn’t every day that you met a boy with snow white hair, crimson eyes, and jagged teeth, but Maka found that within just a brief amount of time, she’d warmed up to his unusual characteristics. At times, she found herself fascinated by parts of him. Sometimes it was his eyes, sometimes his mouth and those shark-like teeth that lied beneath. Sometimes it was his hands, those pianist fingers with the faint scars on them. Maka had scars too. They covered her hands like they did his and spread like winding tree branches. She supposed it was because of Soul, because he had taken her little hands and turned them upward so that her palms faced the sky, so that when it rained she caught it all. He stood beside her, with his own fingers outstretched and awaiting the downpour. Sometimes sharp things fell, leaving sore cuts and pricked fingers for them to wince at. But then there was this amazing thing – sometimes these wonderful, joyous things poured down and granted the bits of exhilaration that they needed continue walking.
“A lot of girls like the whole ‘bad guy’ look, you know? Leather and bikes and stuff,” she muttered lightly. “And what’s this? I thought you’d be happy with the popularity you’ve been getting…I mean you always wanted to be cool. I assumed that meant you probably wanted a bunch of girls to flirt with you too,” she said, laughing as she spoke. Her shoulders rose and fell as she gave a shrug. “The funny thing is, I am one of those girls who bitches and fights. I get angry and throw things. But it’s fine with me…I like being a nerd and not having boys hit on me. That stuff would get annoying. I mean, maybe it would be kind of nice to be able to change a few things about myself, because I’m still a girl and stuff…But I don’t really want to get involved with dating or anything, so it’s better this way. Boobs are reserved for girls who actually care about that kind of stuff, you know, ones who want boys to notice them.” She let her green eyes wander back to the scenery as she rambled on stupidly. “But I don’t…I don’t want boys to like me.”
Kid nearly pouted. “I don’t have problems expressing myself! I just…got tongue tied,” he replied, blushing. “I-It gets hard, you know? I just woke up and I’m still drowsy…so I got distracted,” he continued, making up excuses. However, it only seemed to make her laugh even more. He gave an eye roll, chuckling again. He didn’t want to fall into another laughing fit because he didn’t know if he’d be able to return from it this time around, at least not as smoothly as he had previously. He didn’t know why he worried about such small things while he was around her, but he just did. There was this want to be perfect whenever he was near her – even more so than usual. He wanted to impress her, he realized. He wanted her to see him and think that he was one of the greatest men alive. He wanted Liz to fall in love with him? The thought dawned on him and he sat wondering for a great portion of time – at least, that was what it seemed like. Could he have really wanted that? Surely this whole thing was some infatuation and he didn’t really want Liz to love him, did he?
Kid wasn’t sure where his mind was right now. He wasn’t even sure how he was supposed to feel. All he knew was that he wanted to be with her…maybe not forever, but now. Forever wasn’t a word he liked to use often. Nobody could predict the future; nobody could secure a perfect future that stuck directly to a plan. Something always changed, went wrong or went better than right. He was a shinigami but even he couldn’t live forever, so how he could know of such a thing? Forever was not something any person could fathom, though many believed they could. He gave a sigh and then returned his attention to the blonde in front of him, a light smile playing at his lips as he noticed how happy she was. Alright, he was getting his mojo back. That was more like it. Still, red tinged his cheeks as she complimented him. “I mean all of it,” he said, the smile not leaving his face. “I don’t believe it would be right to lie about such a thing…I’m serious when I say that it would not – and does not – matter what you wear. You would be able to make anything beautiful.”
“However…” he laughed nervously. “Please don’t take that as an invitation to um…dress in asymmetrical attire on purpose to test my words…Though you may look beautiful, those clothes would need to be destroyed.”

Soul shrugged. "I like the attention Maka, but not when I get it because of Wes." He told his meister as they drived. They weren't on the highway, and he was going to stay off of it for a while because he wanted to talk to her. He missed her voice and it was always soothing to him. Then again, they sometimes resonated on long trips so they could speak without actually speaking. When he'd mentioned that to Black Star and Kid, they looked at him like he was a genius. It seemed that not even Kid had thought of that.
So Soul felt good about himself for that needless to say. "I'm too cool to care. I like attention, but I don't require it, you know?" He asked, a smirk on his lips cunningly. He kept his eyes on the road and merged into another lane and taking a sharp left turn without meaning to having to do it so suddenly. Oh well...
"Yeah, but I like you." Soul told her honestly, without thinking how she could take it. "I like that you fight. I'm not really interested in some weak girl that isn't a weapon or meister. I suppose I might end up with one, but it's not what I want. I want someone who understands what I do and how we live. It'd be ideal, you know? Otherwise I'm gonna get bitched out for being gone and spending all my time with you." He never even considered that he'd be at Shinigami-sama's side. "I don't want to screw things up, you know?" But he wondered why she didn't want guys to be interested in her. That was... weird. "Why?" He asked slowly, uncertain. "Do.. like... do guys not appeal to you?"
Liz couldn't help but laugh herself. "I wouldn't hurt you in such a way. The last thing I want you to do is try to either rip off my dress or take it off me in the middle of a restaurant. I'll find a nice dress that you'll approve of. You're paying for it after all. I couldn't deny you." Strangely, Liz meant that. She was willing to do anything to make Kid happy, even if it was something stupid. One shoulder or unsymmetrical dresses were in, but she was willing to let that go to make him happy. Maybe it was stupid, that she was willing to make all of those around her happy, no matter the cost. But she loved seeing those around her happy. Except Black Star. The only time she was happy to see Black Star was when he was unconscious. Or not speaking.
Yeah. She could dream couldn't she?
"What color are you going to wear?" She asked suddenly. "I-I I know that you usually wear black, but if you're going to wear something that has a color I'll get a dress to match your suit." She told him, smiling happily. Maybe it sounded weird, and sorta like a prom, but Liz knew that Shibusen didn't have prom. So she wanted to have something nice with Kid, even if it was just dinner.

Maka’s face suddenly changed to a bright red and she nearly choked on her saliva, losing grasp of him for a brief moment. “E-Eh?! I’m not a lesbian, if that’s what you’re trying to say!” she shouted over the wind, smacking a hand down on the back of his head – lightly as to not mess up his driving. “I LIKE guys, Soul. I just don’t want to DATE guys…I don’t want to date anyone,” she answered, flustered. Sure, she liked guys. She certainly didn’t like girls! What could have possibly led him to that idea – aside from her just telling him she didn’t want to date boys? She couldn’t help but blush while she listened to him speak. Interested? The way he’d said it made it seem as though he was interested in HER. “W-Well, you go to Shibusen…There are a lot of people there who understand our lifestyle.” She laughed, pressing her forehead back against his back. “She’s not the right one for you if she gets angry at you for spending time with me. You’re my best friend; she’ll have to deal with me.”
It felt weird to talk about him dating. Ever since the two of them had been together, there had never been any dating going on with the other. It had always just been the two of them, hunting Kishin, and relaxing in their free time. She’d never thought of how it would be like when one of them start dating. Now that they were in their late teens, it was probably going to happen soon. For some reason, despite that she was supposed to be happy when he started dating – like a best friend should be – she actually became nervous whenever the thought arose. And not just that but…he would get married too and then he’d leave to go live with his family. She scowled at the thought, but then realized how childish she was being. She tightened her arms around him, leaving her forehead pressed against his back. Truthfully, she just didn’t want Soul to leave, or to stop being her friend. But then again, she known Soul for years and she knew he wasn’t the type to just leave a friend for no reason. How could she doubt him so easily?
Kid blushed. “I wouldn’t rip your dress off in the middle of a restaurant!” he replied. “I mean, I might tell you to take it off or I would at least drag you to the bathroom before making sure you changed,” he teased, feeling comfortable enough to say something like that. That or he hadn’t exactly had time to think about it and had just said it. He smiled then, running the brush through her hair again. “Alright, that’s fine with me. Like I said, I’m fine with any sort of dress you buy as long as it’s symmetrical. Don’t worry too much about it. I want you to have fun tonight, not worry about how you look in your gown,” he answered, moving the brush through her long blonde hair. He was surprised at how soft it was. He knew Liz took care of her hair, but even so, he’d never imagined it’d feel this nice. What the hell, he was acting like a pervert. Admiring her hair and all. He sighed.
Casting his attention back to the weapon, he smiled. “I’m just planning on wearing a normal black suit with a white dress shirt underneath. Perhaps, a formal black and white dress would look nice, don’t you think? But as I told you earlier, don’t fret too much over it. If it’s too hard to find, we don’t have to match exactly,” he said with a smile. It would nice, however, to wear matching formal attire. The thought almost made him laugh. Here they were, going on a small dinner date, and they were both so worried about it that it was crazy? He chuckled, shaking his head. Oh well, they were teenagers after all.

Soul felt her movement and drastically slowed, hearing the change in her soul wavelength. He let go of his handle bars with one hand and reached behind him, grabbing her wrist. His heart was pounding, as if he thought she was really going to fall off. He didn't stop completely, and once he was sure that she was steady, he started to drive the speed limit again. "Don't do that..." He mumbled, but was sure that she hadn't heard him. She had scared him... He never thought that Maka would fall of his bike before, and he was terrified.
Her hand hit his back and he let out a sigh, feeling better. "I'm sorry, Maka. It's just the way you said it... you know? I mean... you're my partner, I know that you're not into girls, but damn..." He laughed, softly. "It would be sorta hot. I could get into watching you and some other girl make out on a couch." He teased. Of course, he wasn't sure if he was kidding or not, but either way, he knew that he'd get punched. All the same, he sighed and cracked his neck. "I know that you're not into dating right now. I'm not really too interested either. I have you, you know? I don't want to hurt someone else, especially with this whole Kishin shit. But..." He sighed, looking both ways before turning a sharp right at a red light. "I dunno. You've always understood me so much better than everyone else. Sometimes more than I understand myself. I think I could handle just being single and living with you for a while."
A smile broke across Liz's face when she heard that he wouldn't rip her dress off. Inside, she knew that he wouldn't, but it was funny to think about. Well, in a generic way anyway. Kid was too well mannered for that. Sometimes she wondered what it would be like if he let go honor and impressing his father. What would he be like to just be himself? She knew that she'd never know the answer to that however. Kid was Kid. He was normal and regimented. He was proper and that would never go away. That's what she liked about him. he was sweet and predictable. Liz knew that she could count on him, unlike all the others. Was that bad? That she didn't want him to change, even if it meant he was a symmetry obsessed freak. It used to annoy her, but now she admired that in him.
His hands returned to her hair and she closed her eyes, letting him keep brushing it. "I like colors though. I do think that I look good in black." she had light hair and eyes, so a dark dress made her look elegant. Or maybe she just thought that because black was a neutral color. And because Kid was almost always in black. It suited him perfectly, as weird as it sounded. "H-Hey! Don't laugh at me!" She said, twisting to look back at him. But he just kept brushing, which made her smile. "I think we'd look cute if we matched. But it has to be a subtle match. I'll just buy you a shirt that matches my dress." Before he could say anything, she laughed. "You're a 16, 33, 34." She told him, looking into his golden eyes. "I know what size you are, Kid."
