Maka blinked when he dragged her over to his bed, sitting down. She listened as he spoke, glancing down at her fingers as she played with them. He’d taken her to see a band, somehow that didn’t surprise her. Maka couldn’t fully comprehend his infatuation with music, even though he hid it at times. It was a topic she had tried to read up on, but even then, she couldn’t seem to grasp it. It was something she couldn’t understand, and so whenever he was able to connect so easily with someone else over some band or song, she was naturally jealous.
“Soul,” she whispered, looking up at him. She smiled. “It’s fine, really. I overreacted. I was just worried because you usually don’t stay out that late, not even with me. You don’t have to explain yourself to me, but...thanks.” Standing up, she turned around to face him, still seated on the bed. “We’re both getting older, and we’re both going to want different things. I can understand that. And I want you to be happy, and I want us to stay friends no matter,” she said, holding out her hand for him to take. Once he did, she pulled him up to his feet, granted she needed more strength to do so this time around. Walking over to his suitcase, she picked it up, expecting it to be heavier than it actually was. “Anyway, you’d better go eat. We don’t have much time before we have to leave. We’re meeting up with the others in front of Shibusen. My dad said he and Shinigami-sama will be there to explain some stuff to us.” Lugging the suitcase up again, she made her way out of the room, silence falling over the small area yet again.
Kid allowed for Liz to rub his temples, feeling slightly more at ease. He breathed in the steam from the tea, the scent calming him down even further. “Thank you,” he said, slowly. Picking up his cup, he took a sip of the hot liquid, letting it coat his entire mouth before he swallowed it. “Well, I can say that this morning has been quite hectic. Let’s hope this trip will calm everyone down,” he said, shaking his head. “This entire house is full of crazy people. Giraffe-Girl and Scaredy-Cat,” he teased, smirking. Clearly he was feeling better if he could joke around.
“You two better get ready.” He looked back at them. “We’ll need to depart soon,” he said. His bags had been packed the night before with careful precision to avoid any bouncing or messing up during the ride there. “Make sure you have everything you need as we won’t be able to come back. That means, Patti don’t forget your giraffe plushie and Liz, don’t forget your credit card.” He knew she was going to want to do some shopping as soon as they got there, on his tab. He never did mind paying for whatever things the girls needed. He bought them whatever they wanted, while in return they allowed for him to use them as weapons, and more importantly, friendship and an extension of family since he and his father couldn’t spend much time together.
“You girls will like California, I can tell.”

Those olive eyes watched him, calculating, trying to figure out if he was lying. And he hated that look. It was the same look she gave Spirit whenever he tried to make an excuse for something (if he even tried to make an excuse). Sometimes he felt that it would be better if she just accused him. Well at least he learned a lesson from this: don't stay out after Maka-bedtime. Then, she whispered his name and smiled, and he looked visibly relieved.
Somehow, he wanted to explain more because she wasn't at all convinced, but Maka was right... She usually was. Sighing, she grabbed her hand and stood up with her. His hand was still locked with hers when he looked down at her. She didn't seem as upset as she was before, and was calm. That made him thankful. At least she was calm enough that they could have a conversation without Maka Chops being involved. "I won't stay out that late again." He promised. "And if I plan to, I'll call you first, so you won't have to worry, okay?" He insisting, as if he wanted her to say the same thing back to him.
If Maka was gone until 3 am, Sould would have gone to find her. There was no doubt in his mind...
Liz laughed softly, noticing he was starting to feel better because he was able to take a sip of his tea. Well, apparently if things were out of place she couldn't really count on him to clean it. he would just pass out. Well, apparently their hotel would have to stay spotless. "I'd rather be a scaredy-cat than giraffe girl." she stated honestly with a worried smile. That was a lie. She hated being scared and she hated anything that had to do with creepy crawlies or ghosts. To be honest, she was surprised she wasn't afraid of Kidd. He was a Grim Reaper after all, and he did have more power than most ghosts. But then again... he wasn't that frightening.
"Speak for yourself!" Patti countered. "Being able to go into a haunted house and having a giraffe is way better than your stupid paranormal-phobia. Now come finish my breakfast!" She demanded in her high voice, but sounded playful, so Liz would know she was kidding.
Walking away from Kidd, Liz returned to her task of making breakfast. It seemed that in place of pancakes Patti wanted strawberry waffles this morning. Luckily, Kidd had a special waffle iron that but sixteen boxes in each waffles (they were square, rather than round) and had precise measurements of batter so that all of them came out exactly the same. Once she finished a stack of strawberry pancakes, she slid them over to Patti and smiled at her.
She gave the next stack to Kidd and then picked hers up last. "When are we leaving?" She asked, looking over at the clock on the wall that was the same as Shinigami-sama's mask. "I never forget my credit card." She stated with a pleased smile, pouring syrup on her waffles. "And I already checked what Patti packed. AND what you packed because we're not coming back, for ANY reason, do you hear me? We're going through the list of problem areas and I'm going to make sure you didn't forget anything. All the candles are symmetrical and burned evenly from last night, so there's no need to forget that, right Kidd?" She insisted.
Thinking over what he said, she leaned back in her hair. "I heard that California is similar to Brooklyn, the people are just more attractive because it's where Hollywood is." Somehow, it almost seemed like this fact worried her.

Maka set his suitcase down beside hers, turning her head to look at him. She gave another smile, one brighter than the previous one. “That’s all I want,” she said, with a nod. A call, that was all she needed. She knew it made her sound like a nagging mother or annoying sister, but...It would help sleep knowing she didn’t have to stay up waiting for him because she had no idea where he was or if something had happened to him.
Standing back to examine the pile of suitcases she had set up, she let out a sigh, hands at her waist. She was dressed down from her usual school attire, settling for a pair of shorts and a v-neck t-shirt, a camisole underneath it. Her eyes drifted back to him and she gave a smirk. “Anyway though, it sounds like you two really hit it off, huh? Does this mean Soul’s going to man up and ask her out again?” she prodded, curious, as she made her way to the dining room, cleaning up Blair’s plate and her own, which had been picked at but not thoroughly eaten.
She was becoming more excited for this trip. The last time she had gone to the beach was when she was still very young, with both of her parents. There was something about sitting in the sand, under a sun umbrella with a cold drink and a good book that sounded pleasing, at least to her. Suddenly, a buzzing sound snapped her out of her day dream. She reached into her back pocket where her phone had been nudged, answering it.
“Papa?”
“MAKA! Honey will you need help with your bags?” Spirit asked through the phone, sounding as if he had just been running.
“No, I think we can...Wait a minute. Why do I hear an echo?” she asked, marching over to the front door of the apartment and swinging it open, revealing a tall redhead with a phone pressed to his ear. Maka shut off the call with a sigh. “Why did you have to call and ask if you were already here?”
“I didn’t want to intrude on my precious daughter! But I also wanted to help, so I rushed over!” he said, swooping the girl up into his arms and hugging her. “Oh Maka, papa doesn’t know how he’s going to handle being away from his little girl for a whole week. Promise you’ll call every day, no...Twice a day! And you!” He pointed to Soul. “Don’t think of using this vacation as a time to let your hands wander. I’ll know! I mean it!”
Kid seemed pleased. “Thank you,” he said, sipping at his tea. “Still, I’ll have to measure the candles myself and check is the toilet paper is right, then we should be able to go.” His eyes perked up as he saw the waffles, his appetite coming back fairly quickly. Once a plate was in front of him, he carefully poured syrup over it, making sure to fill every square. He then picked up a fork and began eating, coming back for a sip of tea every now and then. He was feeling much better now. Liz had cleaned up her room, the world wasn’t ending after all.
He laughed lightly. “Both of you are ridiculous,” he said, shaking his head. “We certainly are the interesting trio, aren’t we?” he asked, a smile present on his face as he continued to eat his waffles, making sure he ate them symmetrically too. What kind of garbage would he be if he allowed his body to intake something as disgusting and foul as asymmetrical food? When he finished off his plate, he stood up and took it over to the sink, cleaning it off. There was not a speck of food on it after he finished, drying it off and placing it back in it’s place. He did the same with his cup before he left the room.
A few minutes, he came back and set the ruler in one of the drawers. “Everything is neat and organized. I guess that means we’re set. Since we aren’t returning, I had to double check. But anyway, when you finish up, bring your plates over and I’ll wash them since Liz made the food,” he said. Despite wanting to make sure everything was perfect, he did eventually allow other people to do things for him. Like cook and wash the dishes. Usually he and Liz rotated the two daily, but whenever he cooked she complained that it took too long.

Soul smiled back, knowing that she was feeling better. "Sorry if I worried you." He added softly, putting his headband around his forehead. He then started to go through what they had in his head to make sure they wouldn't have to buy anything they didn't need when they got there. Going into the bathroom, he grabbed their toothbrushes and put them in portable cases and tossed them into his suitcase. He didn't want to open hers and see whatever... she had in there.
"What do you mean man up?" He demanded, looking up at her. "I asked her out once, didn't I?" But, then he sighed and let out a small sigh. "Well..." He began, rubbing the back of his neck, standing partially hunched over, a hand in his pocket. "I think that it went well, but I only had to go on one date with her. Until this whole Kishin thing is resolved, I don't want any distractions. Besides, I'm spending the next full week with you, I doubt she'd like that if I asked her to be my girlfriend."
Now he wondered if he could bring his motorcycle. They still hadn't been told how they were getting to California. Or where exactly in California they were going. Then Spirit arrived and he shook his head, sighing. Why did all of this always turn into an attack on him. "Spirit, how many times am I gonna tell you I'm not interested in a girl with the figure of a ten year old boy?" He questioned, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"Besides, I went on a date last night, and there's going to be way more well endowed women on this trip. Just because you were all over your meister, and every other women for that matter, doesn't mean I will be too." he picked up both suitcases and walked with them downstairs, starting to attach them to his motorcycle. There was no way he was carrying them to Shibusen, which is where Shinigami-sama was meeting them before they left. "Maka!" He called upstairs. "We're ready to go when you are, and can you brag my phone charger from my bedside table?"
When Kidd walked away to check everything in his normal (crazy) protocol way, Liz sighed and went back to her breakfast. "Do you think he'll be okay in California?" Patti asked, watching their meister leave. "If we stay in a hotel he's going to rearrange the entire thing, assuming he doesn't pass out first."
Liz sighed, chewing her waffles thoughtfully. "I'd assume Shinigami-sama would have called ahead to make arrangements because Kidd is going to be there. He is Kidd's father after all." She finished up her breakfast and brought it to the sink, grabbing a glass of orange juice.
Patti nodded. "I suppose you have a point." She stated, drinking her large cup of milk. "Well, let's just hope we don't have to clean up Kidd blood!" She exclaimed, bringing her plate to the sink as he returned to the room. "Alright!" she exclaimed. "When are we leaving?" Patti questioned.
Liz nodded. "Your dad said that he wanted to talk to us, so shouldn't we be there eight minutes early?" After all, if they were any more of less than that, Kidd might have a mental break down.

Maka made a face. “What do you mean? I’m your meister, you’re going to be spending time with me whether you have a girlfriend or not. If she has a problem with that then..” Instead of finishing her sentence, she focused her attention back on her father. Picking up her suitcase, she glared up at her father for his comment, gripping the handle of the suitcase with both of her hands. However, instead of hitting him with it, she hit Soul for his response.
“Forget it, I don’t want to be friends with you anymore, you stupid jerk!” she shouted, launching her suitcase at her father for him to carry, knocking him into the wall. Stomping down the hall, she went to go grab anything else she had forgotten to get the first time around.
Spirit made a sound as the air in his lungs was knocked out, sliding down to the ground. He got up to his feet a few seconds later, dusting himself off. “Your father is only trying to look out for you, Maka!” he called down the hallway. When no response came, he dropped his head and walked out of the apartment like a sad puppy.
As Soul began to tie things up to his motorcycle. “You’re better off walking to the school. Lord Death is providing a ride for you guys. If you take that with you, you’ll have to leave it at the school,” He said, effortlessly tossing Maka’s suitcase over his shoulder, his other hand in his pocket.
Maka peaked her out of the window that overlooked the front entrance of the apartment. “Alright!” she called back down, seemingly calmed down now. She made her way into his bedroom, surprised to find it decently organized. Walking over to his nightstand, she unplugged the phone charger and rolled it up. She started to walk away, but stopped when she noticed a piece of paper sticking out from one of the drawers. With a small smile, she shook her head. It was probably some homework he had just shoved in there to avoid doing. She slid open the drawer and picked up the paper. It was folded lazily, but she did notice her name. Her fingers ran over the edges, debating whether to open it or not. It was his property...but it had her name on it, right?
Someone called for her downstairs and she turned around, afraid of being caught. “Coming!” she called back, stuffing the paper into the pocket of her shorts and exiting the room. As she made her way down the hall, Blair hopped up onto her shoulder with a meow.
“California~!”
Kid nodded. “Yes, eight minutes sounds right.” He took both Liz and Patti’s dishes, washing and drying them off before he placed them back into their spots. He dried off his hands with a towelette, folding it neatly and setting it back to the spot it had been before. “We should be on our way,” he said, walking out of the kitchen and down the large, symmetrically decorated hallway and to the front door.
He popped up the handles of both of his suitcases, allowing for him to wheel them around. Liz and Patti had their own things to bring so he figured he could carry his own things this time around. Even the way he wheeled the suitcases seemed completely practiced, one on either side of his body, behind him. After he locked the door to the mansion, he let out a sigh, praying that he had not forgotten anything important. He made a quick nod at the house before he turned around and started down the pathway.
Because Shibusen and Gallow’s Manor were so close, they didn’t need any sort of transportation to get their. It was directly down the street and had been built this way on purpose. His father wanted to make sure that they were close despite the fact that he spent most of his time in the Death Room at the academy.
When they finally arrived, he could see his father waiting in front of the school. The rest of the students were inside their classrooms, leaving the patio in front of the school completely empty save for the four.
“Hey, hey, hey! What’s up, what’s up, Kiddo!” Shinigami-sama said cheerfully, waving his large white hands around.
“Father,” Kid nodded to the shadow like person in front of him, a pleasant smile on his face.
“Are you guys ready for your trip? It should be fun fun!”
Kid smiled, “Yeah, I hope so. Could you run through the house later to make sure I didn’t forget anything?” he asked.
Shinigami-sama patted his head, “Sure!”

Soul groaned when he was hit and glared at Maka. "What do you mean you don't want to be friends?" He yelled up at her angrily. Sighing, he waited for her to come downstairs. He took the suitcase from Spirit, who of course started to argue with him and put it on his bike. The two of them ended up glaring at one another, Soul's arm turned into a Scythe, while Spirit's back was covered in blades. When Maka came out, the two of them where still in their glaring match before Soul got on his motorcycle, his arm transforming back. "Come on Maka." He stated, starting his bike up.
Once she was on behind him, he sped off down the street, leaving Spirit alone. "You know I only say that sorta shit to get a rise out of your dad, right?" He asked tentatively. "I mean, yeah you are flat chested, but you don't look like a boy." he decided it might be best if he stopped talking. The rest of their ride to Shibusen was in silence and Soul drove his motorcycle up the stairs and parked it off to the side.
Seeing Shinigami-Sama, he walked to his side when he was through speaking with Kidd. "Is there a chance we could bring my motorcycle with us?" He asked, unsure of how they were going to get there.
Liz sighed, shaking her head. She was wearing tight short jean shorts, gladiator sandals, a short tank top that revealed her stomach (as most of her shirts did) and had her hair tied back in a high ponytail, her bangs in her face. Patti, on the other hand was wearing a tight jean skirt that reached mid-thigh, and a bright pink tank top that went down to the top of the skirt. She had a smile on her face and grabbed her two suitcases and a duffle bag that was on the top of the other. "Tell me something?" she added, looking over at Kidd as they walked. "How are we going to GET to California? I mean we can fly in weapon form with you on Beelzebub, but not with all of our stuff."
Once they arrived, Liz rested both of her bags beside Patti's and Kidd's making sure they lined up in two lines of three. If they didn't, there would be hell to pay.
A monster sized Hummer with tinted windows was driven on the opposite side of the patio and parked. The door opened and Stein stepped out of it, taking his snuffed out cigarette from behind his ear and relighting it now that he was out of the car. Apparently lord death didn't like him smoking in his vehicles. "Here's the Death Hummer, Shinigami-sama." He stated, the keys in his hand.

Maka stuffed the phone charger into one of the bags and glared at the two “men” who were near fighting. She shook her head, taking a seat on the motorcycle behind Soul. Blair also joined them, sitting in the crook between their bodies. “Shut up, Soul,” she said, sighing. Her chest was a sort of running joke with him. She was used to it and it didn’t bother her that much. She knew him well enough to know he was joking.
Blair perked up, sniffing around as they took off. “Hey, the girl you went out on the date with...I have the same perfume as her! Bombshell by Persephone’s Secret!” she settled herself in Maka’s lap as the bike took off. “She must have grabbed the sale like I did.”
Maka looked down at her with a look that almost asked ‘Why?’. She tried to picture some one else taking her spot on his bike, but she couldn’t. It didn’t click in her mind. Sliding her arms around Soul’s waist, she was happy to find that Soul still smelled like Soul. Leather and a hint of cologne.
When they arrived at the school, she slid off the bike, letting Blair climb onto her shoulder as she hopped up the stairs toward the school. “Morning,” she said, cheerfully as soon as she reached the others. Black Star and Tsubaki were already there too, along with Regina and her weapons.
Kid greeted them with a pleasant smile. In the background, he heard the sound of an engine and was fairly confused. “What in Death God’s name is...Father, is that a Hummer?”
“Yes sirie, you’ve got quite the eye kiddo.”
“Anyone could tell that’s a hummer!” shouted Black Star.
Death laughed, “Oh but’s not just ANY Hummer! This is the ‘Death Hummer’. It’s much bigger than your average hummer. It’s also equipped with a GPS, or DGPS. It’s got a miniture refrigerator to keep your drinks cool, seat warmers, surround sound speakers, and it’s also much more eco-friendly than a normal Hummer!”
Kid blinked, “How in the world did you get this?” he asked.
“I had it build about a week ago! I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want you to get jealous if your team didn’t win, I know how down you get when you aren’t up with the latest technology!”
“Father...”
“Oh? Is your old pops not hip enough now?”
Kid sighed and rubbed his forehead. “Okay, well we should leave then.”
Death held out both arms. “Not without a Death Hug you don’t!” Kid looked away, “Come on...”
The eyes on Death’s mask shifted downward into an angry state. “Death the Kid.” His voice was much deeper and way more threatening than it normally was.
Kid made a grumbling sound, obviously not too happy about being hugged and babied, but he didn’t like the sound of his father’s voice. He hesitantly held out both arms and Shinigami-sama nearly glomped him. When he finally let go, he held up a hand to wave at them.
“Well! That should be all then,” he said, once again in his happy voice.
“Ngahh...” someone moaned. A trembling hand reached over the top step of the staircase that led to the school patio. Up crawled a sweaty and tired Spirit. “W-Wait..” he begged. “I-I haven’t s-said goodbye yet. I ran all the way b-back, g-got hit by a swarm of bikers, and fell down the stairs twice going up. Please, just wait.”

Holy... shit.. This was one of the best vehicles that Soul had ever seen. Could he have one?! Seriously! He wished his dad made stuff like this and just gave it away to a group of teenagers who were heading to California for a week. OH yeah, that was totally cool. Next thing Shinigami-sama was going to tell them that there were condoms in the glove compartment and that they should have fun.
But... Death almighty. This was literally the most impressive thing that Soul had ever seen. He walked around the Hummer, pulling a button that caused the back open and hmi to smile. He proceeded to put his and Maka's suitcases in the back and then helped Regina, Karen, and Gretchen do the same. Okay, so maybe he was almost showing off his new (and VERY) impressive arm muscles in the muscle shirt he was wearing. Almost. Not quite.
Patti and Liz laughed at the fact that Shinigami bribed Kidd into hugging him, which considering what he did for them (or the winning team), he deserved it. In a way, it almost seemed as if he expected Kidd to be on the winning team, but didn't want to risk it.
As Spirit made his way up the stairs, crawling, Soul had to move away to keep from laughing, circling the car, trying to figure out where to put his motorcycle so they could take that as well. It would make it easier if they had more than one means of transportation, and this way he and Maka could do as they wanted. "Wait..." he stated, walking around the front of the car and went to stand beside Shinigami-sama.
"Who's driving? I only have a motorcycle lisence, Maka doesn't have one at all, and neither does Tsubaki, Blackstar, and Kidd."
Regina held up her hand. "Oh! Oh! I can drive!" She exclaimed loudly. "I mean I am the best at it, and the most attractive one here. And I've never been in an accident that's my fault. I am perfect." Apparently she was choosing to ignore the cars, street signs, pedestrians, dog, and building she drove and/or backed up into over the past two years. "Can I Shinigami-sama!? Please?"
Stein went over and grabbed Spirit's arm, helping him to stand. "if you want to come back to the nurses office I could sedate you and make sure nothing is wrong?" He stated, a rather crazed look in his eyes. It also wasn't clear if he was serious or joking. "Maka, you should say goodbye to your father so he doesn't have to whine for the remainder of the week."

Death seemed nervous. “Uh..hehe. Well, yes I would have picked you, Regina. However, I already picked someone else,” he said, trying to seem as polite as possible. Even though Regina didn’t remember most of her car accidents, the God of Death did recall one student coming to school on crutches because he was run over by another classmate. He brought his hand over to Liz, opening it to reveal a car key. “I’ve already chosen Liz for the job of driving. Is that alright with you?” he asked. He hoped she was, he didn’t exactly want to let Regina drive. He valued his son’s and students’ lives.
Kid watched as Soul towered the bags into the car, not bothering to help. He looked back at Liz and smiled. “Yeah, Liz will drive,” he said quickly, before Regina could butt in and take the keys. “Well, I guess that means we’re off!” he stated happily, marching over to the car. Black Star got in front of him, heading to the front seat. Kid pushed him back, raising an eyebrow. “Front is for the homies, you sit in the back,” he joked.
Maka caught herself staring at Soul, though she wasn’t sure why. When did he start working out? The question brushed her mind for a moment and she wondered, until something grabbed at her leg and she looked down to find her father lying on the ground. “Papa...” she shook her head, smiling lightly and helping him up to his feet. She did something he wouldn’t have expected to happen in the next million years: hug him. “I’ll see you later, Papa. Don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone, okay?”
Spirit slowly retreated from his shock, hugging the small girl. “Of course, sweetheart. I should be telling you that. Make sure you stay safe, call me whenever you can. Daddy loves you.”
“I know, I promise I’ll call,” she said, letting go finally. She waved at him before walking over to join the others who were gathered around the call, in awe. “Wow,” she whispered, taking a closer look at the car.
Spirit leaned over to Stein, his hands twitching in front of him, almost crying. “Did you see that? She loves me, she hugged her papa!”

Liz was praying that someone else was going to drive. There was no way they would survive if Regina drove. She almost hit Patti a few weeks ago, but Liz pulled her out of the way. However, when Death offered his large glove to her, revealing the key to the car, she stared at him in shock. He... picked her? "Y-Yeah, that's fine with me." What else could she say? Shinigami-sama wants her to drive the Death Hummer and she was cool with that. "Just... one thing." she stated, taking the key from his hand. "How are we supposed to get on the road from here?"
Stein looked at her and smiled. "Just drive up the stairs. That's what I did." He stated, smiling at her. "And it makes wider turns than it looks like it does, so make sure you don't take turns too fast either."
Patti instantly looked up. "Liz is driving!?" She asked, clapping. "Yay!" She jumped up and hugged her sister. Then she glanced at Stein. "How do you know all this?"
"Someone had to test it."
Soul smirked, seeing the Hummer. Oh god... this was awesome. He found a way to attach his motorcycle to the back of it and made sure it was secure. Then he went to get into the back. He got in and reached down, grabbing Maka's hand and lifted her into the car with him. He smiled at her as if to say thank you and sat down in the middle of the car.
"Holy shit!" He exclaimed. "This is like a camper, forget calling it a hummer. Two people could live in here." He went to the minifridge and took out a drink, handing Maka one that he knew she'd like. "Kidd, I think we should do something with your dad to say thanks, because this is amazing."
Stein looked at Maka get into the Hummer with Soul helping her to get into the overly large vehicle. "I think she only hugged you so wouldn't worry about what she's going to do." He teased happily, lighting a second cigarette, taking in a deep inhale of smoke before blowing it out.
"Do you mind telling me why you didn't inform them about their assignment?" Stein asked death, turning to face him. "They honestly think that this is a vacation."

Maka took his hand, allowing for her body to be pulled up into the car. She sat down on the leather seat. Wow, the seats were extremely comfortable. Leaning back into comfy goodness, she let out a sigh. Nothing like traveling in style. When Soul handed her a drink, she smiled. “Thanks,” she said, popping open the top and taking a sip. She laughed and looked over at him. “Debating trading in your bike for one of these?”
Kid seeped into the seat when he sat down, letting out a sigh of relaxation. “Mmm...Look, Father even made sure everything was symmetrical in the car,” he said, pointing around. Everything was mostly black, with bits of white here and there. It was simply perfect. “Wonderful, simply...wonderful.” He smiled and looked over at Liz. “Think you can make it down those stairs without killing us all?” he asked, half joking and half serious.
Spirit made a face, holding up a fist. “What’s that supposed to mean?!” he yelled.
Death waited until all the children were in the car before he spoke to the two in front of him. “That’s because the two of you will be heading in after them. This isn’t exactly a vacation, but I’d like for them to have some time off as well. That’s why it’s a week instead of three days.” he said, smiling behind his mask. “Now, you’ll have to find your own ride. I didn’t feel like buying two hummers.”
Spirit blinked. “We’re...going to California?” he asked. “But I don’t want to leave! I mean, vacation does sound nice, but I’m your Death Scythe. I need to be here in case something happens!” he said, looking up at him. “I messed up once before, I don’t want to not be here again.”
Shinigami laughed. “Spirit it’s alright. I have another Death Scythe here in case anything happens. Go and make sure things are done in California. Asura won’t be attacking for awhile, it’s fine.”
Spirit pouted, “Ugh...”
“Should I Reaper-Chop you?” he asked.
“Oh god no. I’ll go, I promise,” he said, covering his head.

Soul looked around. "This would be much harder to park, and not as convenient. I like my motorcycle, but if Kidd owns this when we're done with it, I can just borrow it. But I think I'll stick with the motorcycle." He relaxed into the seats and let out a sigh. "Finally... I can't wait for this vacation to get started. How far away is the drive?"
Liz got into the front of the car and adjusted the mirrors. "Um.." She turned on the DGPS and started the car. "You should all put seatbelts on. The descend down the stairs is steep enough, but I don't think the car will flip. If it went up them it would go down them without a problem right?" She put on her own and looked at all of the switches above her head. Wondering what they did, she flicked one of them and spikes appeared on the outside of the car. She immediately flipped it back and put her hands on the wheel. "Oh... this is like an assault vehicle." She muttered, wishing there was an instruction booklet. Sighing, she backed up and turned the Hummer around.
Once it was turned, Liz helped to desend it down the stairs slowly. This was too slow for Patti however. Running forward, the younger weapon switched the gear of the car, making it fly down the stairs before Liz jerked it to a stop at the end. Shaking, she glared at Patti. "Go... sit down, brat." She countered, glaring at her sister, who laughed and ran off to sit next to Black Star and Tsubaki. "Sorry!" She chimed.
"Turn left Ahead." Came Death's voice from the DGPS, making Liz jump, almost expecting him to be there. Sighing, she drove forward and turned, going the long way out of the city because of the narrow roads. Once outside the city and caught in the sand, Shinigami-sama's voice again came from the DGPS. "The terrain has changed. Please hit the switch red switch above you."
Doing as she was told the wheels shifted and started to move faster over the terrain. "This car... is awesome." She stated, leaning back in her seat, glancing at Kidd. "I think your dad deserves some perks for designing this thing, Kidd..."
Stein leaned behind Spirit. "Think of all the beautiful woman who are in California." Stein added, knowing that would get him there much faster. "That and the fact that California has a giant coast. Maka will be in a bathing suit, and boys will be around her." Leaving it at that, he started to walk off. "We should give them a head start. I don't want Maka to sense our wavelengths, so we'll leave a few hours from now. I'm going to pack my things. You should to the same, Spirit." He chimed.

Maka smiled. “Good,” she said, sipping at her drinks and glancing out the window, “because I like your bike.” It was true. She liked it a lot better than a car, not that she knew why either. If the same idea had been presented to her before she had known Soul, she would have picked a car over a motorcycle any day. Not that she would ever attempt to drive one though, she was no where near that ballsy.
Soon enough, the desert became the only thing visible for miles. Thick clouds of sand fluttered up every now and then, making it hard to see. Luckily, they were on a paved road, so the puffs weren’t nearly as bad as they would have been had they been driving through straight sand.
Kid kicked up his legs, putting his arms behind his legs. The car was big, giving him enough room to stretch out. Listening to the familiar voice of his father, he smiled. “That’s dad for you, he’s got everything figured out. He never goes half way on anything,” he said, then paused. “Except, of course, my stupid hair.” Blowing a strand out of his eyes, he sighed.
He watched as Patty stood up mess around with the controls, swatting her hands away. “Hey! I wanna survive this!” he said, looking behind him as she left to go sit down. “Patti, remember that you won’t be able to see the giraffes if we’re all dead,” he said, with a smirk.
Spirit did like the idea of beautiful women, as much as he hated to admit it. Was he really that easy to win over? Shaking his head, he looked over at the Professor, but his face greatly changed as he brought up Maka. “Oh no! Maka’s going to be all alone in a place full of mean, nasty boys! Come on, Stein! We have to get to California!” he shouted, grabbing the doctor by the collar and pulling him down the stairs of the academy. They had to pack and go, NOW.

Soul looked out the window as well, not that they were anything nice to see. But he was glad that Maka preferred his bike too. When he had went out on his date, Katie's breasts were pressed against his back in such a way that made it hard for him to drive. Strange enough, Soul liked having Maka ride with him. She just seemed to fit, as if the bike was made for two people their size. Or, for a girl her size, anyway. Shaking off the thought, he took a long drink of his beverage. "Hey, do you think we might be able to find a Kishin or too? I may be a Death Scythe already, but I miss the taste of souls already." He stated, almost pouting about it. Because they were delicious, and he missed the taste, having not had once since Arachne's. And Witches were even better then Kishin eggs. Too bad Blair's soul didn't taste like that, otherwise he'd hustle her for just one more of her eight remaining souls.
"Yeah, but considering that this could also be used against Asura, it might have multiple uses. He might be giving it to us to test out how it runs normally." She stated, leaning back in her seat. They were going straight, so she didn't have to do much actual driving, just making sure the car didn't flip over.
Patti pouted. "But... I want to help." She complained before returning to sit by Black Star, tricking him into playing a game of cards with her.
Stein let out a groan to complain. "Spirit if we follow them too closely, Maka will pick us up with her soul perception." He stated, matter-of-factly. "I'm in charge, and unless you want me to sedate you until we need to leave, then you will be patient. No one is going to try and make a move on her while they're in the car. Besides..." He straightened his jacket. "She's with teenagers that we can trust."

Maka glanced over at him as she pondered the thought. Kishin souls? Even though they were going on vacation, she really did hope they’d find a few. They generally weren’t too hard to kill and they would help Soul become a stronger Death Scythe. “Finding some Kishin souls would be cool,” she said, laughing as she watched him pout. “Oh come on, don’t tell me you’re tired of being a Death Scythe already,” she teased, turning her body so that her back was to the window and she was facing him. She pulled her legs up onto the seat, tucking them in beside her.
Kid looked over at her. “Well, I certainly hope my father isn’t using us as test subjects for some new object he would like to mass produce,” he stated, simply. “It might be the case, but either way, he wouldn’t let us use something if he knew it wasn’t safe or well designed. Like I said, he doesn’t go half way on anything,” he said with a smirk.
Black Star made a face. “Don’t worry, he’s just being a jackass. He won’t let ANYONE DO ANYTHING!”
“Black Star, shut up. You’re not sitting up front,” Kid said, to which Black Star just growled at.
Spirit sulked. “Fine...” he said. “I still need to go home and pack my stuff. I need to look good for California. There’s going to be a lot of hot babes there that Spirit has yet to fondle,” he said, deviously, rubbing his hands together.
