Rester shrugged his shoulders. "He might be running errands. This case is hurting him bad, so he might be trying to find a way to counter that. Driving around might help. But with all that cake, who knows." He stated with a chuckle. He handed his cell to Gevanni and told him to order the pizza so they could pick it up on the way. They were far enough that driving there would eat up enough time. He stopped to grab the pizza's once they were close. Once they made it back to the station, they helped Near out and Gevanni offered to carry him inside. After they were inside, they put the boy in his wheelchair and brought him into the bosses empty office in order to censor him from his fighting parents who were coming in now, both demanding to see their son before they talked to anyone.
L started to rerun ten or fifteen tests. Once they were going on, he optimized the computer systems, making them more effective, checked the site, and then made sure that it was secure. He redid the the firewalls and made sure they were secure before he was satisfied. Then, he cleaned up the lab and rearranged it the way he wanted it so everything was where he knew it was. Looking at his work, he smiled, pulling off his shirt, tossing it aside. Watari had brought him something more appropriate to wear, which wouldn't get caught in the machines. His sleeves were already causing troubles. He was pulling his shirt back on when the door opened. Looking over his shoulder, he saw Light and smiled. "Oh, you got the cake. Thanks." He stated, walking over to him, wearing a skin tight white shirt this time.

Once back inside the police station, Gevanni felt only a little more at ease. Bringing in boxes of pizza, and Near meant rounds of grateful cheers from the desk-jockeys, as well as the working boys, all of whom crowded around the office to see both Near and the pizza. What better way to keep Nora and Nathaniel away from Near.
Moving towards the couple, Gevanni couldn't keep the dissapointment off his face. "Nora. Nathaniel, you know how this works... Near can't see you until we decide whether or not you're pressing charges against each other, and till you spend the night in the holding cell. You'll see him tomorrow."
Light walked into the research area, only to catch a glimpse of pale skin, and dark eyes as they turned towards him. He nodded, "Yes, Yes I did. And a lot of it." He set the frighteningly sweet stuff down, and yawned, before taking a sip of his own coffee. "So, any new discoveries, so far?"

Nora wanted to strike Gevanni. "I want to see Nate. I just want to make sure that he's okay. I know I can't talk to him, but let me see him at least... Through the window. Is he by himself?" She near pleaded. Although her and her husband fought; pinning their blame, they loved their son and he was their world. "And I have a work meeting tomorrow, you know that I'll make bail first thing in the morning." She countered, glaring at him. Then, sighing and sitting, she tried to calm herself. "Did he see the fight?" She mumbled.
Rester sat with Near, making sure that an officer was close to him. "Did you hear anything, Near?" He asked, resting a hand on the boy's shoulder.
"No." Near answered. "I'd been taking a test. I hadn't been paying attention. Did my parents get into a fight again?" He asked.
Sighing, Rester smiled, but nodded. "Yes. Gevanni and I will stay here the night with you. Is that okay?"
Looking down at his thighs, Near started to play with his nails. "I don't need both of you here. Gevanni can stay, I know that your wife will miss you." He stated with a smile, which only made Rester rub the top of his head.
"I'll stay with you kiddo."
L smiled at the other officer and walked over to him. He did get a lot more than he'd expected, and he was pleased for that. "Well, for starters the other forensic tech you had was rather useless." He shrugged it off and opened one of the boxes and picked up a fork, bringing a forkful of cake into his mouth. Once he finished swirling it over his tongue, he swallowed happily. The machine printed results and he picked it up. "Perp's been mainlining Viagra." He stated, reading more results. "He's taking iron supplements, and he's taking a prescription for migraines." He handed the page over to Light."And he's recently been on an antibiotic for a minor infection."

Light took the information with a grain of salt, frowning. The lab had been changed. Things moved, beakers broken, and cleaned up in haste, it looked like the place had been cleaned out in a hurry, and then suddenly removed into. The computers had been moved. What had once been familiar to him was now changed, and the japanese male was not sure he liked it.
He turned back to L, watching those dark haunting eyes as he drew these conclusions. "I see... And how did you find all of that from a single strand of hair found at ONE of the crime scenes, if I may ask?" He kept his tone light, curious, hoping not to offend the male. He didn't want the man to run to his father, after all.
Another man sighed as well, his dark-as-night eyes trained on the woman he married, his hatred clear. "Can we at least see him, before we go into the cell?"
Gevanni sighed a little, rubbing at his nose. "Yes. I'll let you both see him. But I don't want raised voices, or any kind of disturbance, okay? He's upset enough, and I don't want you guys to be sniping at each other."
"As if we would!" Nathaniel growled out. Neither parent liked this particular officer. It was asic he was always looking down on them. As if he thought HE could raise Nate better.
Gevanni nodded, "I know you won't. Alright, he's in the cheif's office. C'mon." Guiding the two past crowded desks, and towards the room where Rester and Near were talking. He smiled, "Near, your parents want to speak with you for a bit." He stepped into the room, unwilling to leave the three of them alone together.

L walked over to the small fridge that was used for storing samples and opened it, taking out a bottle of water that was on the door. "Drug usage is stored in dead cells, and hair is one of the most common dead cells that forensics use to find drug information in. Things like this give me information I can use." He went into the office that was left, attached to the lab and pulled in rather large cork board on wheels. He took out some crime scene photos and pinned them to the wall, glancing at Light. Other photographs he had were various victims and their injuries.
"This killer is in his mid thirties. He's sophisticated, and quite charming. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a good job... even a steady girlfriend." There was a pause as he reviewed some of the injuries. "He obvious has issues with rage, but the differences between the injuries on the victims... shows me that some of them set him off." He picked up a photograph of the women who'd had her breasts removed, and her body mutilated far beyond the others. "I believe that she was targeted for something she said." Picking up a file, he looked at her job. "A lawyer.." He mumbled. "So she most likely did something to embarrass our killer." He turned to Light, who was watching him closely. "I apologize... I will profile without speaking."
Near looked up when his parents walked in and he smiled. His mother hugged him instantly and moved a step back to let his father step close to him. They had long since perfected their act in front of their son. His smile made Nora weak; surprised that he could be happy in a police station, his mother's lip split, father with a black eye... But nothing could make him unhappy.
"We're sorry baby..." She ran her hand through her son's white hair and noted that his focused eyes were staring deep into them. A small smile touched her lips. Despite his inability to talk, he was beautiful.
"It's okay." Near stated, leaning closer to his parents happily. "I know that things will be okay. They always are."

It was amazing, the information that flowed from the pale man's lips, as he looked at the gruesome pictures, Womena nd men both were on that board, and each one had a different type of injury, similar, but always different. It was as if he was TRYING to kill in different ways... Trying to throw Light and his investigators off. He wanted so badly to catch this creep, to keep another from dying...
But at the same time, part of Light realised this was just a game, a way to stive off boredom for him. So, he kept that part shut tight away, and listened instead. A smile appeared on his lips, shaking his head, "No. I like it. Hearing your thought process reminds me of things, and makes me reconsider the motive behind the crimes."
Sometimes it was hard to think of the why. The how was always so much more solid, simple to deduce. Light had never understood motives very well.
Watching the sweet scene, Gevanni stood back to give Nathaniel room to get to his son. He slid in beside his wife, careful not to jostle her, and quickly checked his son for any signs of damage. "Hey... Are you going to be okay staying here? We can call Alex for you... Or one of your teachers..." He offered, knowing it wasn't right that his son should stay in a police station while he and his wife sit in a jail cell they earned together.

L shifted his weight, sitting on one of the tables to watch the picture he'd pinned up. Staring intently, his dark eyes flickered over the images, observing; learning. Taking another bite of cake, he focused on one of the victims as he chewed. "All the victims are of the same age range, but they vary greatly in social standing. A man who was homeless, convicted of countless crimes, a prostitute, a woman who beat her children..." He rambled off, making it clear he'd memorized information from others by just glancing at the files.
"The killer is calculating, but feels justified in his actions. He... sees himself as a Messiah. Killing is wrong, but is justified in his actions because it's for the betterment of society." He shifted so his back was hunched, still on the table.
Near shook his head. "I'll be fine. Rester and Gevanni offered to stay with me." He leaned up and hugged his father, moving his hair from his eyes. "I'll be fine, papa. You two need some time to remember why you love one another. I'll be fine. I'm with some of the best police in New York! I'll be fine. I promise." His voice was gleeful and he wanted his parents to be happy. His mother was smiling at him, and it looked like she was about to cry.
"I love you sweetheart." She kissed her son's forehead, looking toward her husband as they asked to leave and go into booking.

Gevanni stayed with Near, in the small, dusty office, after his parents were taken away, one final 'I love you' coming from the father as well. He sat down on the couch next to Near, giving a smile. "They love you deeply, you know that?" He offered, hoping that the boy wasn't too traumatised by this. Looking to the walls for help, he found instead, pictures of the medals Cheif Yagami had received, the old man standing with pride.
He kind of loved those pictures. Wanted to have some of them with his own face in the old man's place, grinning at some award. He doubted it would happen though. He turned back to Near, grinning, "So, what would you like to do until lights out?"
Amber eyes strayed over the pictures, picking out the subtle forms of ironic punishment. A prositute with her breasts removed. A former veteran turned gangbanger, had his hands chopped off. "I can see it. The man clearly thinks he is serving them their just deserts. In that case... He must be very angry at the world... He'd probably be trying to get to a position where he could do something legally about it too. Perhaps someone in a law profession... A police officer... or a lawyer... or perhaps a psychologist..."

Near glanced up at Gevanni and leaned against his wheel chair to grab his backpack that Alex had put on it. "I have assignments I can do. Don't feel the need to babysit me. I'm a student, I'm perfectly able to care for myself, and if it's alright with you." A smile apepared on his lips and he looked down at the advanced calculus book in his lap, wondering if that was okay with Gevanni. "You could leave me in here, or I could be put somewhere out of the way. Unless you want my help? I always wondered what being a criminal psychologist would be like! Or someone that helps the officers catch criminals!"
L turned to face him. "It's almost like the movie seven. If only he had seven victims and not twenty-two." He joked rather dryly, grabbing a cup of coffee that he'd made earlier, and it was still steaming. "He's in law enforcement... I am sure of that. The way he thinks and how operates... He wipes down the bodies, wipes it down for DNA, or any evidence. But not in a way that a civilian or someone who watches crime shows would." He stated, finishing his cake and putting the box on the table, leaning back on it. "He's well educated and skilled in forensics... He could even be a forensic scientist."

The dry joke almost made Light chuckle as well, before he gave up his humor and just smiled. Fingers swiping down the counter, as he strode around the obstacle, blocking him from both the board and this enigma of a dark-maned man. He nodded, "Well, that helps narrow it down some... The last profile we got was of a mass-murdering pedo." he rolled his eyes, before smiling. "Thank you, Lawrence. Your assistance has been most grateful. I'm going to go start doing some investigating."
The brunette turned then, intent to leave the scidentist to his work, and to check out the lists of individuals with access to these particular people's case files.
Another brunette stood, dusting off his pants legs. The clock ticked nearby, and he nodded. "Alright... Well, how would you like to meet a forensics expert? We have one in the station right now for a special case. I think I might be able to ask him if you can talk with him for a moment!" He offered, grinning at the wheel-chair bound boy.

L turned to face Light and focused on him, rather than the board. The brunette was standing in front of him, so he was observing him closely. The man thought highly of himself, boastful, attractive... It was obviously. When the men moved around him, he chuckled. "You're welcome. I am here to offer assistance. Feel free. I will keep working down here, and hopefully I will have more by dinner time." He leaned forward, grabbing a stack of files and started to browse through them.
Near's eyes lit up. "Really?" He asked, gleeful that they were willing to let him help. He slipped his book back into his bag and nodded. "Yes! Yes! I want to help! Please can I meet him?" He asked, leaning closer to him. He rolled forward, out of the chief's office. He saw the man talking to someone that Near had met. The office Idiot: Matsuda. He smiled as Gevanni escorted him toward the elevator that went downstairs into the basement. Normally, he knew never to go anywhere like this with someone, but he trusted Gevanni. There was a lab down there, he assumed. This was a federal police station, which just excited him more. "What do you know about the forensic scientist? What's he like?"

Gevanni could never say no to those beautiful eyes, that heartful smile. He sighed, "Well, maybe not HELP, but I'll introduce you. I'm sure they won't want a kid, no matter how intelligent you are." He smiled, "Come on, I'll show you." He guided the male towards the elevator, and pressed the button. As the elevator sank into the depths of the station, Gevanni swallowed forcing himself to speak, to ignore that they are alone, that he was with the subject of his obsession. "H-He's a genius, from what our records say. I'm not sure exactly what kind of genius, I just know that apperantly, he's gonna help solve the murders." He smiled, knowing that Near was already tracking the murder reports online at home.
The elevator dinged, and Gevanni came face to face with Light, his superior officer. He smiled, nervous. "A-Ah, Detective Yagami! H-How pleasant to see you!"
The brunette blinked, before smiling, "Yes, and you. Gevanni, I expect that report from the dabinsky case sometime soon." He murmured, shifting past the two, and giving the child a strange look. Gevanni guided the male through the door. "Mister Lawrence?" He called, hoping the male wasn't too busy, "I brought someone to meet you..."

Near looked up at Gevanni and laughed. "I think I can try to help, even if that means I have to be quiet and stay out of the way. I know that it breaks the chain of evidence if I touch anything, like tests, so I'll just watch him work. Assuming he likes me." He stated, suddenly worried that someone wouldn't like him. Looking down at his legs, he wondered if this person would dislike him for being disabled, but it didn't stop him from going inside, looking up at the male in the room. His eyes widened slightly seeing the black maned man.
L turned around to look at Gevanni and when he saw the whitenette, he grinned and slid off the table. He walked over to them. "Hello. My name is Lawrence. What's yours?" He bent down in front of Near's wheel chair, the same haunting eyes staring at the younger boy.
Near stared into the eyes that could be mirrors of his own; hair inverted. They looked tired, bags under them; focused calculating eyes. It made him smile. "My name is Nate Rivers. But you can call me Near."
L nodded. "Near. I like that." He held out his hand which Near took and shook. The two smiled at one another and L glanced to Gevanni. "I'm pleased to meet you too officer. Would you like something to eat?" He gestured toward the food that Light brought to him.
Near looked at the table and bit his lip. "You have lemon donuts? C-Can I have one?"
Turning, L smiled and nodded. "Sure. Feel free, Near. I can't possibly eat them all." He grabbed a napkin fro one of the shelves and picked up the doughnut and handed it to the boy. "Here." He stated happily, turning his attention to Gevanni. "So who's this delightful boy?"

Watching the two interact was like watching father and son, almost. It was strange, how similar they were. Two sides of the same mirror, but inverted. Lawrence healthy, standing, capable, but crooked, tired. Near, awake, bright and fresh, crippled, yet still capable. It was amazing...
Gevanni blushed, "Ah! N-No, thank you, I don't need a donut... but thank you..." He murmured, watching the boy take the donut, the icing sliding over his fingers. For a moment, he tightened his body against the surge of desire, the want to slide his tongue over those fingers. He shook his head, and turned.
His eyes caught L watching the boy too, blinking owlish eyes. Could... No... A feeling of unsettling anxiety slid over his body. He didn't name it, trying to keep from being weird. "A-Anyway, Near wanted to come down and see if he could help you. Or at least watch."

L acknowledged that Gevanni wasn't interested in sweets, but noted that Near liked that. Good, that means he had someone around here that shared taste with him. He watched the doughnut leak on Near's hand and he grabbed a wetnap and offered it to the boy so he could wash his sticky hands when he finished eating. Of course, L wasn't at all concerned that the boy was bound to a wheelchair. He was an albino, which were naturally weaker than the average person. But the boy had a beautiful smile and high spirit; he practically radiated energy. L admired that in a boy as young as he was.
Noticing Gevanni's focus on Near, he wondered how attached he was the the child. It was clear that he cared for him. "I could use someone to keep me company if that's alright. I'm sure I can find something to occupy him."
Near smiled, happy that the man was willing to help him. "Alright! But I'm going to have to take a break from helping to do some homework."
L smirked. "What do you have?"
"Calculus."
"I love calculus." L smirked. "I'll help you if you need me to do so. When are his parents coming to get him?" He asked Gevanni.
