Surprise rang through his body. He couldn't beleive that someone so obviously antisocial was going to help Near out. Was willing to be around for the boy. He smiled, "Well... They'll be out of the tank tomorrow, but after that.... They'll be going to work. We're pretty much waiting at this point, for a child advocate to arrive."
He watched Near for a while. Only to realise that his cheeks were heating, and his heart was beating. He sighed instead, heading back towards the elevator. "I'll come see you a bit later, okay, Near? I have a bit of work to do..."
Outside, the sun was rising, and Matt was dragging, quite literally, his sorry ass out from under a pile of dirty clothes and blankets. Slapping an alarm with a heavy hand, he headed towards his computer, booting it up first, and then pulling on some (less smelly than the others) clothes. Logging onto the site, he checked the clock. Plenty of time.

Holy shit. She replied. He grinned. Even turning him down, she was amazing... He sighed, memorising the poem, setting it into a word file on his computer, as he did with all her work.
Then, snatching up his backpack, he headed to school. Only three blocks down from his dad's apartment, and he was there, the crowded halls, the smelly teens, everything fit. Heading to his first class, he made it just before the bell rang, sitting in his seat by the window.
It wasn't until the teacher didn't start rollcall immediately that he noticed somehting was off. Then, he noticed the gorgeous creature in front of the class. Beautiful blonde hair, pecs to die for, and blue eyes deep as the sea. Wow...

L frowned, not liking the answer, having assumed that his parents were the victims of a crime, not being the ones who committed one. But, all the same, he knew that he couldn't pry too much into it without alarming the boy. So, he decided to continue to run some tests and helped Near with his homework, showing him easier ways to do the math in his head, rather than in a calculator. Using something to do it was no fun at all. So what was the point? It was dumb to have a tool to do something that you could learn to do with practice. Not that Near needed much practice, he learned almost as fast as L did.
As it turned out, there was no advocate available, so Near ended up staying the night in the station. L set up a place for the boy to sleep, but he was much more interested in staying up with him. And L was a push over for kids, so he ended up playing a game with him as he worked around midnight when he heard the elevator ding not far from them.
Near was out of his wheelchair, sitting on a cot, a smirk on his face, legs drawn to his chest. He didn't seem at all bothered by the fact his legs were weak. But L had learned that he could stand as long as something supported him. And, he was able to walk, assuming he had something like a cane or a walker. But he seemed fine with just sliding to placed he wanted to do. Or crawling.
Mello wasn't pleased with the way the first day of school went. He was worried about what people thought of him. Needless to say, he stood out. He didn't check the site because his mother was in and out of his room, all over his case because he was 'going to be late'. Yesterday he had only went from lunch and the classes after it. Today he had the entire day.
In his first class, he refrained from writing, leaving his journal in his backpack. He was looking at the teacher, who was the fattest women he had ever seen. Literally. How the hell did she walk? Ugh... He leaned back in his chair, resting his arm on the back of the chair. Normally people just thought he looked mean, so they'd stay away from him. He just had to hope that things would be the same here.

The first class of the day was always the most boring for Matt. He usually tapped his pen in interesting beats, or slept through it. The fat woman was endlessly annoying. So, he enjoyed annoying her back. Like when she called on him, today, he answered with the most detailed explanation he could.
She was so pissed...
He sighed, stretching as the bell rang, grabbing his stuff, and heading for his next class. geometry. Math. He liked math. It was easier than things like english, or science. Sure facts, only one way to enterpret anything. A lot like his code.
The blonde again... What, was the new guys' schedule a carbon-copy of his own? Ugh...

The blonde noted the interesting people in the class. Luckily, things were going rather well. No one had called on him or picked on him. But the professor called on a kid not far from him. A red head. A beautiful red head. Mello cursed himself. Why did it have to be a red head? The only red head in the whole damn class. Well, the only natural red head. He had freckles, Mello had noted, so that meant his hair color was real.
Mello hated geometry. He hated shapes. Or anything like that. He spent the entire class writing notes compulsively and made sure to take detailed examples of everything they did. He was going to make it perfect damn it. However, he didn't understand it well enough. This sucked. He was going to have to study his ass off. He looked down at his journal and ended up turning his shapes into drawings, one of which was a building that he was drawing for one of his stories for the site. And he loved this building. It was based on several of the worlds most famous churches and contemporary buildings.

Blue-green eyes followed the blonde, only to become bored and head for the board instead. Stupid teacher. Stupid notes. The shapes weren't making sense in his head right now. They would later, on paper. He knew it. So, he decided to instead, watch the sky. After all, it changed constantly.
The clouds shifted and moved with the wind, and before Matt knew it, the bell rang, and it was lunch time. He blinked, surprised. Smiling, however, he pushed through the crowd, heading for the library.

Once they left class, Mello made his way to the library as well, preferring to be surrounded by books rather than people. He glanced at the computers, considering it, but chose to do something else. Stretching his arms over his shoulder, he went to the couch near the computers and continued to draw more images from his story, deciding it was a better use of his time, rather than going online. And he was worried someone would see him posting and find out that it was him and that he was emo or whatever. The thought made him shiver. So, he figured it would be best not to go online...
He heard music on one of the computers and then it was muffled when headphones were shoved in. He looked up, seeing someone cursing themselves, and smirked. A blonde. He looked so embarrassed, and Mello was amused by it, and it was one of the few genuine things he had seen.

Matt had been about to curse the guy out for the music, really wanting quiet, since he was trying to fix a bug in the programming, but the music was quickly cut off. something else that caught his eye however made him stare for a moment.
A smile of amusement on the blonde boy's face. Not the one with the music, but the one with the leather bound book. It was strange... That smile was endearing. Sweet. And strangely... it reminded him of one of Cross's poems about solitude and misery.
He sighed, going back to the screen. Numbers flitted across his screen, and he quickly tackled a few. He needed to finish this before class...

Mello continued to draw for a while, ignoring the others on the computers. He stretched his arms, cracking his back, holding his journal, not wanting to put it down. However, he was startled when someone walked by and knocked out out of his hand on accident, sending it crashing beside the red head's chair. Damn it... Scrambling to his feet, he moved around the couch to grab it before the other could pick it up and see it. Not only was it not finished, but it was his personal expression. He didn't like sharing it with anyone. Not even his parents.
But he picked it up... Biting his lip, he stood there, shifting uncomfortably as the red head picked it up, looking at where the page was open to. "Sorry about that..." He mumbled. "I hadn't meant to startle you."

Ah, finally done. Leaning back in his creaking chair, Matt's eyes shifted towards the stained glass windows the library had installed a few centuries ago. Only to hear something go splat at his feet. Looking down, he noticed a journal, covered in thick, brown leather. It had landed open, face down, as if the universe was saying, HERE READ THIS!
Sadly, Matt had standards, so he picked it up, looking up to notice the owner futzing around the couch to try and get to it. He smiled, holding it up. The blonde was kinda cute... In that man-bitch kinda way... He shook his head as the male took it. "Nah, it's okay. Keep it safe, okay?"
He wondered for a moment if he should keep talking. Could he really make a friend here? This was like a scene out of a dating sim... He smiled, pulling out one of his favorite lines, as the librarian pushed a cart past. "Clumsiness is cute, you know."
Hah! Take that, Tokimemo! My lines are better! Matt's head-chibi crowed, laughing like a maniac.

Mello was glad that the red head didn't fight to try to read it. Normally when someone saw him, they'd tried to mess with him, if for no other reason then because of the way he dressed and the length of his hair. When he'd been in a Catholic school, they had made fun and teased him because he "looked gay." Which of course just made Mello worse, and he wondered if that's why he was the way he was. Just because he looked a certain way. Who cares if he preferred to have long hair. Tons of guys had long hair. It was just because his hair was naturally straight that it framed his face in a feminine way. Not to mention how thin he was and the shape of his hips... His fucking hips.
"Thank you." He stated, closing his journal and resting it between his hand and his hip. Watching the red head, he wasn't sure what to do at first. The way those green eyes watched him made him doubt that he could just walk away; so he wondered what the other would do... The way he was positioned, the blonde knew that the lanky teen wanted to say something. Finally, when he spoke, Mello felt his heart flutter. Blinking, he bit his lips, watching the other, somewhat surprised. Rather than walking off, he managed a grin. "Yeah, it is. Too bad that someone else knocked it out of my hand." Truthfully, he was shocked that he not only managed to flirt with another guy, but that he had the balls to actually do it.

Well now! That was adorable! Biting lips, inward pulled limbs... This was one shy boytoy! Matt smiled, narrowing his green eyes just a bit. Mentally he apologised to his one true love, Cross, and prepared himself mentally. "That's even cuter. The shy types tend to get snapped up quick though..." An opening... Please say you're single, please say you're single!
He knew it wouldn't work, but... Eh, even if the kid was taken, he could at least be his friend, right? A friend at school would be epicly awesome...

Mello shifted again, this time much more awkwardly. Was he being serious? This was weird.. He'd never had a guy hit on him before. Well, actually, he had, but not one like this. Not a red head. He was beautiful, and his eyes were this beautiful green. God he wanted him so badly; but knew that could never happened. He uncrossed his arms slowly and sighed. "I... I don't know if you're aware, but I'm a guy." He stated. His parents couldn't allow him to be with a guy. Homosexuality was a sin. There was no way he could go there.
The blonde didn't have any friends here either. He just started, so he wasn't really in a position to turn down friends. Not that he had many before he moved here in the first place...

The red-head stared dumbly. Seriously? He... Oh god... He wanted to facepalm so hard. Or headdesk. One or the other, and he wasn't sure which one he wanted more. He gave a nervous laugh. "W-Well... Yeah, I know." He pointed at his chest, which was covered in leather, and a leather VEST at that. "No cleavage. Or bra-lines. And you don't seem like the type to go commando." He explained. A librarian stopped, glared at Matt, who shrugged apologetically at her.
The cart trundled on, squeaky wheels and all, and Matt turned back to his new blonde distraction. "So yeah. Cuteness is unisexual." Here he grinned, making his eyebrows wiggle up and down.

Suddenly, the blonde felt stupid. He hadn't considered that someone else could be gay. No. He hadn't thought that someone could be gay. Because he wasn't. He couldn't be. No no... That just wasn't him. He couldn't be. A smile met his lips, when the librarian left and Matt grinned at him. Okay, so maybe it was dumb for him to be happy about what just happened, but he was. "Sorry..." He mumbled, rubbing the back of his head, his shoulder length gold hair brushing against his face. "I didn't mean to make this awkward... I just..." He looked down and shifted his legs so his feet were squared with his shoulders.
Yeah... unisex. Matt might actually look like a girl if he had longer hair, and it was brushed. "I guess it can be unisexual." He stated, shrugging his shoulders.

That was just adorable. The fans on the ceiling hummed, and lights flickered a little. He smiled, holding out his hand. "I'm Matt. Mail Jeevas. Matt is what my friends call me. And you are DEFINATELY on that list, cutie." He winked, a little tease in his grin.
He hoped he wasn't laying this on too thick. The kid looked kinda nervous, but he was also standing there blushing, all flattered too. Was he really, really okay with being flirted with? Had Matt found another bi or gay boy? How rare! Holy shit!
Or maybe it was just some socially awkward loser, like himself, who was hoping human interaction would suddenly make him normal enough for a cooler crowd to take him in! He didn't let that depressing thought show on his face though.
