"I like to help whoever I can and when I fail I get upset. With how much time you've spent with us, you should know that. I can't help it." He said, shrugging, staring out of the window absentmindedly. "Anyway, you can't train me while your wounds are still fresh. You're going to reopen them. Give it a few days, we don't have to do everything now. We don't have a deadline like with did with the comet." He said, folding his arms across his chest. He really needed to buy a new shirt...
His gray eyes were calm as he watched the clouds move across the sky outside. From the other side of the door he could hear the doctor talking and Momo chirping and making various other sounds. He was probably bothering the man for food.

"You don't succeed at everything twinkle toes..." She muttered tiredly. "No one accomplishes everything they set out to master. Believe it or not even I have trouble with things." She teased, her unseeing eyes focusing on the ceiling above them. "I don't exactly have to bend to watch you train and scream instructions at you." Shifting again, it was clear the position she was laying in was uncomfortable and she wanted to lay on her side. "I know we don't have a deadline, but I just don't want to do nothing, I not not moving and just laying down. I feel useless."
Her voice held a small amount of pain when she said the last part. Momo was chatting outside the room and Toph didn't waste the effort to turn her head. "Momo just broke something." She added dully, closing her eyes and tried to get comfortable enough to fall asleep for a short time. "You don't have to stay at my side this entire time you know."

Aang nodded. "I know, but still.." He said. "And you're not useless, you taught me how to earth bend. You don't have to teach me everything in one day." He said, smiling. He looked over at her and nodded.
"I know, I'm gonna run off later to feed Appa and get something for Momo too. For us as well. But other than that I don't really see where else I could go. Here with you or out there with the crazy doctor. What would you pick?" He asked, laughing slightly. "Momo seems to like him though." He paused. "But then again, maybe I should go buy a shirt somewhere. I don't really feel comfortable walking around town half naked." He said laughing.

Toph grinned. "I know I'm not useless Twinkle toes. No one else would have been able to get you to move a rock unless they put Katara in a hole and buried her alive." She laughed at the mental picture. "And I know I can' teach you everything in one day. It took me an entire day to teach you to even MOVE a rock."
If there was one thing he was good at, it was making her feel better about what happened and putting her at ease. If she'd been hurt with anyone else, she wasn't sure what they could have done. Short of Katara healing her, everyone else would have been pretty useless. Her burned injuries hurt, but it saved her life. And for him, that in and of itself was a victory - something he never would have even considered. "In here with you or out with the crazy doctor? If I can walk, I'd go out there with him and just force you to follow me." She teased, turning her head towards him, opening her eyes. "You could be completely naked for all I care."
"I don't really think anyone's going to linger around observing you that critically. I'm not wearing a shirt either." Bandages wrapped her chest, covering her breasts and the injury she'd sustained, and she had been wearing something over her breasts earlier, but the doctor had removed it while she'd been sedated to tend to the entire injury, the burn, and the other injuries she'd sustained.

Aang glanced down at her chest when she mentioned that she wasn't wearing one neither. He realized what he was doing and quickly looked away, cheeks pink from embarrassment. When she said she didn't care if he were naked or not only made them redden, until he realized she was blind and that had been the point. "Okay, you win." He said, sitting back in his chair, crossing his arms again.
Aang looked toward the door. "I'd rather stay here. He's really weird, I think he might be insane. Not that I judge people or anything." He said laughing. "He kind of reminds me of Boomy, except with hallucinations." Standing up, he smiled at her. "I should go get Appa something to eat. Also, what do you want to eat? You must be starving, I know I am. I'll pick something up on the way back. It shouldn't take me more than fifteen minutes."

The silence was something she took as he was doing something like looking at her to figure out that she was telling the truth about being shirtless. "I know. I always win." She added with a grin and closed her eyes again, trying to get comfortable enough to fall asleep. She hated sleeping in a bed and not on the ground, but she knew it wouldn't help her injuries. The dirt, or the rocks, something she tended to like having around when she slept.
"You can stay here, I was just making fun of you." She shrugged her shoulders, supporting her back off the bed with her arms which rested on the off white sheets. "Well he saved me, so I won't really complain. Good help is hard to find sometimes, so I'd rather him be crazy then inadequate." When he stood, she smiled at him and laughed. "Well assuming you have nothing against getting me something with meat in it, go for it. I don't really care what you get me, I'll eat anything as long as it doesn't taste bad. I might be asleep by the time you come back, so just save it or something."

Aang stood up and nodded. "Alright, I'll be back soon. If you're asleep I'll just leave it on the night stand for you when you wake up." He smiled and opened the door, walking out into the living area. The place was set up in the doctors house, probably because the village was small and didn't require a large hospital. He looked around, searching for the doctor and Momo. He found him tossing the flying lemur into the air and catching him as he fell. He laughed, catching their attention.
"Come on, Momo. Let's go get some food." As soon as the words were uttered, the animal jumped down and ran over to Aang, flying up to sit on his shoulder. He chirped happily, obviously understanding the word 'food'.
Leaving the house, they found some hay for Appa and fed him. On the way back he bought Momo some of the lechee nuts he really liked and something for Toph and himself - his being vegetarian, of course. He carried the food back to where Toph was laying, setting the noodles and beef dish down on her night stand, not knowing if she was asleep or not since she was turned away from him.

"That means you're going to let me get up and get it myself then." She muttered, rolling over onto her uninjured side, her back now facing him. Her hair slid over her half covered skin, spreading like water through fabric across the sheets. "Don't get lost or killed. I won't be there to protect you this time." She was teasing him, but her voice was heavy, showing how tired she really was. Rubbed her eyes, she pulled her legs a little closer to the upper part of her body.
It hadn't taken her long to fall asleep when he left. Her mind had completely faded out of consciousness, and she was far passed feeling weightless and her body was at ease and she was no longer in pain. However, her sensitive ears picked up the sound of the door closing and she returned to the world. Ignoring him however, she opted to go back to sleep and not bother getting up. She could just eat in the morning and hopefully be in less pain. He'd most likely go to sleep soon anyway considering he'd been tired during training.

Aang seemed to stand there for longer than he should have, watching as she slowly breathed in and out. He smiled, happy to see that she had managed to fall asleep. She really needed it, especially since they hadn't slept at all and they had trained the day before. He set the closed container of food down on the night stand before he walked out of the room, leaving her to sleep in peace. Once he left the room, he opened the container he had bought for himself and picked up one of the fried carrots.
He nearly dropped the hot vegetable when someone crept up behind him. "Oohh, I see you brought some food. Well I hope you know that you do owe me for fixing your friend. I suppose you could pay some of it in food..."
Aang's body twisted around and he sighed in relief upon seeing the doctor. "You can have some, I bought a lot." He said, holding the container out to the man who seemed more than happy to have a bite or two...or ten. After they emptied the dish, he decided it was best if he went to sleep. It wasn't until now that he'd realized just how tired he was. Luckily, the old man - whose name happened to be Shuei - was allowing him to stay in the vacant room upstairs, one that was occasionally used for patients. Once he collapsed on the bed, he was gone.

Toph kept her breathing even and remained still while he watched her. Her body shifted only when her lungs expanded and collapsed with the oxygen that sustained her life. Before Aang even left the room, the steady rhythm of his breathing lulled her to sleep. Perfectly as ease, she felt safe enough to sleep, especially because he was there watching over her - as stupid as that sounded. He did care about her well being and he was the avatar. Who better to protect her if something happened than her?
Sleeping through the night was easy, especially considering how late it was. Later in the day, Toph woke up three or four times, but continued to go back to sleep rather than getting up. She had no interest in doing anything which required movement. Not immediately at least. Now that the sedative had completely worn off, she was exhausted, in pain, and just wanted to sleep and wake up better. This hadn't happened however - life was such a bitch. Finally, waking up hungry and with a dire need to pee, Toph shifted, sitting up in the bed. Sliding to the edge of the bed, her foot slid off the side of the bed, touching the ground. A sonic wave drifted through the building which had a stone floor, showing her the room, everything in it, and the food Aang had left her. Leaning over the table, she picked up the container, figuring food was more important than anything else. Grabbing chopsticks to eat with, she opened the container and started eating what was inside of it. Noodles with beef and some vegetables. All things considered it was a good choice, and it was one of the best cold meals she had eaten in a while.
Pulling her legs back up on the bed, she crossed them and finished her meal in a short amount of time. Putting the empty dish on the table, she stood up on the floor. Swaying for a second, her hand rested on her most serious injury and her eyes closed for a moment, symbolizing her pain. Fighting the urge to swear, she walked to he door, pulled it open, and walked out of the room and down the hallway. Finding a bathroom took a little more effort than she would have first assumed. After using it, she walked back down the hallway and went into the main room where she sensed the crazy doctor that Aang didn't want to be around.
"What time is it?" She questioned, unable to tell because she was inside and it was too hot all day and night for that to be a decent indication. Sweat had formed on the back of her neck, her face, shoulders, and neck.

Shuei turned his head. "Good morning Taph! It's time for joy, I have finally found my lucky slippers!" He pointed to his feet, at the polka dotted blue and green slippers. "I always wear these when I go rhino-deer hunting! They never fail me." Walking over to her, he bent slightly, hand on chin. "You should not be out of bed, your still very sick. You see, if you walk around then you might open your wounds, bleed, and die." A manic laugh escaped his lips. "Though I bet you already know that!'
He moved back, making his way into the kitchen, his white hair was similar to Einstein's, except his was three times worse. "Where is the little avatar boy? Wake him and tell him that breakfast is done and that he still owes me the other half of the payments, that food only cut part of it. Tell him that I also take jelly beans as currency."
Aang rubbed his eyes, wishing that the curtains were closed so that the sun didn't blind him. Slowly, he pushed aside the sheet and sat up, yawning. He was still tired, but knew it would be best if he got up now instead of sleeping the day away. He could hear chatter down stairs and something about jelly beans and breakfast. Getting up, he made his way out of the room and to the bathroom, using it and going downstairs. "Did someone say breakfast?"

Toph's eyebrow twiched. "My name isn't Taph, it's Toph." She correctly hotly, as if debating earth bending a rock into him. Well, she had to admit... Aand was right. This guy was a few tiles short of a pia shou set-and by a few, she meant about half. He seemed out of his mind and completely crazy. "I'll be fine. Walking around won't kill me, and I hate just laying around. I'd rather walk around for a little and then be in pain then just lay in bed bored and doing absolutely nothing. She then heard movement above them and knew that Aang had to be awake.
This was confirmed when he came downstairs and walked towards her and the mad old man who seemed to associate jelly beans with money. All the same, how hard could those be to get? It was better than money, right?
"Yeah, it's apparently ready, and whatever you got for me last night was really good. For someone who doesn't eat meat, you're pretty good at picking it out. Thanks for the delivery of dead masticated animal." She teased, taking a step towards him, straightening herself out, but was still holding her injured side. Her eyes closed for a moment, in an action a little longer than a blink. "I think I need ice or ointment or something. Can you just waterbend some water onto my body and leave it there? Frostbite will help with the stinging."

Aang shivered when she mentioned the mangling of animals to create food. "You're welcome. All I did was ask for the most popular meat containing item on the menu, that's what they gave me. Anyway, I'm glad you liked it." He smiled and rubbed his forehead, his gray eyes squinted in the light. Watching her hold her side, he made his way over. "Hey, Mr. Shuei...you have ointment right?"
Shuei stuck his head out of the kitchen, throwing a tube of something at Toph, forgetting that she was blind. He was a doctor so he had noticed earlier, but it wasn't like he remembered. It hit the back of her head and he shook his head. "What are you blind? Wait...Nevermind, just rub that on it three times a day and it will decrease the pain. Oh and the food is ready so shut your mouths and come here, bring your fly-y bat lemur thing..."
Aang picked up the ointment from the ground, shaking his head slightly. He handed it to her. He laughed slightly. "Just use that, I think it's probably a lot better and safer than your second idea." He took her hand, giving it a tug. "Let's go eat. Hey Momo!" He called down the hallway. "Breakfast time buddy, hurry up."

"Or ointment... that would be less dramatic and more effective." She muttered, sighing. The man returned to the room. He said something and soon after something hit the back of her head. "... Did you really expect me to catch that?" She muttered angrily. Not only was she blind, but he threw it at the back of her head, even if she wasn't blind there was no way she'd have seen it. Had they been outside she would have seen his movement and known he threw something.
"Yes, I'm blind..." She muttered, grumbling under her breath. "How long will this take to go away?" She asked, turning to face Aang, taking the ointment from him. "I suppose you're right." She admitted defeat and walked into the kitchen with him, feeling Mo mo land on her shoulder. Rubbing behind his ears, giving the lemur some attention. "What have you been up to?" He couldn't answer, but still. They entered the kitchen and his tail wrapped around her neck to steady himself as she moved a little more unevenly than usual because of her injured side.
Sitting in one of the chairs, she leaned backwards, tossing the ointment onto the table. "What's for breakfast? I'm still hungry."
Seeing the old man, she looked towards him. "How long will it take for all of these injuries to heal?" She questioned, stretching her arms, before wincing sharply in pain and returning one hand to her lap, then the other one went through Momo's soft fur.

Shuei picked up Momo by his tail when he ran over, swinging him around and observing. He seemed to really enjoy the animal. "They should heal up within a week or so if you use that, the one on your torso will take up to a couple of weeks. If you use the ointment it decreases the chance of scars as well." He tossed Momo onto his shoulder and walked back into the kitchen. "We are having blue pancakes, bacon, and marshmallows." He added, breaking off a piece of bacon in his mouth.
Aang blinked, "Blue pancakes?" He said, throwing his hands into the air, jumping. "Awesome!" He ran to the kitchen, grabbing one of them and shoving it into his mouth. He sat down at the table. "These are great. Taste like blueberries." He turned his head, holding one up. "Toph, look! They're actually blu - Oh...Sorry!" Now he felt like Sokka.
Shuei nodded. "That's because I use crushed blueberries to color them!"
