Toph sighed, a few weeks isn't what she wanted to hear. A few days would have been much more preferable. Figures the time she needs Katara the most she doesn't want to see or speak with her. Not that she needed to be healed, she'd just prefer not to be injured. Who knows, there was a chance they'd run into another water bender or something. Stranger things have happened. Following the old man's voice and Aang's fast pace movements into the kitchen area, she stood in the doorway for a moment.
"I sorta got that by the smell of blueberries and the fact they had blue in the name.' She walked over to the table and sat down beside Aang. Her body shifted awkwardly as she sat down, attempting not to use the muscles under and ground her injury. Being hurt this bad sucked. Leaning back in the chair, she closed her eyes for a moment, her jaw tightly set as she relaxed. Momo was chatting away as he started to scarf down some manner of food on the table, most likely blue berries and lecche nuts from the sound of it.
With minimal effort, she grabbed a plate in front of her and put some pancakes and bacon on it. The vibrations were slightly fuzzier than usual, but she could get by. If she could walk through desert for a few days then she'd be fine eating something she couldn't completely see. Picking up a piece of bacon, she took a bite out of it. "Hey, Twinkle toes, when do you want to head to the fire nation?"

Aang shrugged, taking a plateful of pancakes and pouring maple syrup over them. "Whenever you want to, I'm not picky." He said, sprinkling more blueberries over the pancakes and starting to eat them. Shuei poured them all a drink and Aang picked his up, taking a sip and going back to eating. Leaving whenever was fine with him and she was the one injured so it would be up to her to decide when they left. He didn't want to push her to do anything and she seemed in a lot of pain at the moment. He pulled Momo to his lap to keep him from wandering the table like he had been doing.
Shuei blinked. "You two are heading to the fire nation? Why would you go there? With this war and all, the Firelord will kill you both right away!" He shook his head and started to eat, laughing slightly. "I would not go there if I were you, much too dangerous with all those firebenders burning your eyebrows off. I once married a firebender, you know. Worst decision of my life."

"I don't care when we leave, as long as it's not a few weeks from now. As soon as I can walk and bend without hurting myself I think we should go. I want to miss kicking your butt for any reason." A smile appeared on her lips and she took the syrup from him as he put it on the table. Opening the top of it, she poured some onto her pancakes.
Picking up her chopsticks, she ripped it apart before putting some in her mouth, some of the syrup dripping onto her leg, which she wiped off with her hand. She swallowed as Shuei mentioned the war and then coughed, sitting up straight to stop choking. "The war ended almost four years ago." She pointed towards Aang. "He defeated the fire lord and a new one took his place. The fire nation has pulled out of every other nation and is helping to rebuild the past 100 years or war. Surely you've heard SOMETHING about that?"

Aang looked over at her. "Whenever you want, just say so and we'll head off." He looked over at the doctor, a confused expression on his face. "She's right, the war has been over for awhile now. Ozai was defeated and the new Firelord is his son Zuko." He added, taking another bite. "It's a pretty big thing to miss." He said laughing.
"No no. Squinted eye is the exiled prince. Ozai is still firelord. I wouldn't have missed something like this, I'm very much in sync with the world. My best friend is an air bender but I haven't seen him in awhile. Oh did I tell you, I once married an air bender. Ah, those were the good days..." He said, picking up a pancake and folding it like a taco before he started to eat it, taking a large bite. "Yummy." He said, reaching for a jar of pickles.

"Zuko was exiled, but he became firelord after his father was defeated." Toph pressed, trying to convince him otherwise. Arching a brow, she was finally sighed and shook her head. Yeah, this guy was more than half a bag short of a pai shou game. Unfortunately, there wasn't much she could do. This guy was totally out of his mind, but he saved her life and was allowing them to stay here, so she supposed she could just let it go. It seemed not only did all people know one another, but they were also all crazy.
"Don't worry about it, I don't think there's any convincing him, hearing something open and the smell of vinegar met her nose. "Did... you just open a jar of pickles?" She asked, turning her head to face the direction the jar popped open from. Going back to eating, she decided to just ignore it. At first she thought Aang was being overly critical, but he was right. Oh well, he could do something right so it worked out.

Aang laughed as he continued to talk. He didn't say anything, decided it was best if he stayed quiet and let him believe what he wanted to. He put another piece of food into his mouth to keep from laughing. "T-This is really good.." He said, pointing to the pancakes, knowing it was best if they changed the subject.
Shuei nodded. "Yes! Pickles are great with pancakes, don't you know that Loph? Surely you've had this before? If you haven't please feel free to try!" He folded another pancake, this one with pickles in the center as well as syrup. He shook his head. "You two are just children, you don't know of politics. I'm much older and I know how this world works. You'll see, when you go to the fire nation." He nodded, taking a bite.

Toph started to laugh as well, but masked it by putting some bacon in her mouth and slowly chewing it. This guy was a few rocks short of a bender. It was far more comical then said. Who were they to correct him? Had this been a few years earlier, she would have corrected him and started an argument, but this was just too hilarious to do anything about. Besides he was old and was most likely going to die soon anyway, correcting him was a waste of effort. And it made for a more interesting trip.
"I don't think pickles are good for me at this point. Too acidic." She muttered, not wanting to try what he suggested. Despite being blind, she could taste very well. "We're teenagers, and we're both master benders. I don't think children is the proper word you should describe us with, but you're right. What would we know about politics?" She turned towards Aang and smiled at him, covering her mouth to avoid laughing again.

Shuei started to rub maple syrup on a new pancake, sprinkling some pickes on top before he folded it again. He went to take a bite but stopped halfway, turning to look at her. He blinked. "Well if you say so, but you look too young to be having children." He said, taking a drink from his glass. He leaned closer to her, a hand covering the side of his mouth so that Aang couldn't hear. "Is it his?" He asked, pointing to the Avatar.
"Having children?" Aang asked, confused. He glanced at Toph for a moment before he shrugged and continued eating. He had no idea what they were talking about and he wasn't sure if he wanted to know. Instead, he continued to feed Momo, finishing his own meal as well. He leaned back in his chair and burped.

Toph looked up at him and made a face to show her confusion at his question as well. "Children? What're you talking about? I have no interest in them at all." She paused before muttering. "Besides I'd have to earth bend them into a sealed box to keep them quiet." Leaning backwards, her head leaned on the top of the chair, her eyes up cast, unseeingly staring at the ceiling.
She continued eating normally, stretching her arms over her head and then glanced towards an open window that was allowing a breeze into the kitchen. "I think we should work on your earth bending. You should go make a canon outside." She instructed, glancing towards him. "When I finish eating I'll be out to scream orders at you and telling you what a bad job you're doing."

Aang wiggled around. "Aww but I just ate, I can't train now~" He whined, picking up Momo and letting him run off out of the kitchen. He looked over at Toph, noticing the face she was giving him. "Alright, I'm going." He stood up and stretched, running outside.

Aang pointed forward. "I see it! We're almost there." He said, tugging Appa's reigns to signal the bison to lower. When the animal was safely on the ground not too far from the palace, he jumped off, landing on a bubble of air. Walking over to Appa's side, he took Toph's hand as she started to get off. She was still injured and the jump from Appa's back to the ground was a big one. He smiled. "This place looks good, much better than it did before. It seems really peaceful now."
Looking over at her, he realized he was still holding her hand. It was warm against his and he almost didn't want to let go. However, he didn't want her to smack him so he slowly dropped it and walked toward the palace with her. The guards greeted him, bowing quickly and going back to their stances.

"Finally, my back is starting to hurt." Toph was laying in Appa's saddle with her legs crossed, her arm resting over her stomach. She wasn't as hurt as before, but her skin was still tender and it bothered her from time to time. Whereas she had nothing against jumping off, she didn't want to end up ripping open her injury open like when she'd decided to train with him instead of just watching him a few days before.
Taking his hand she dropped down the ground, her vision returning as soon as she did so. "Thanks." she said, feeling his hand leave hers. Walking beside him, she wanted into the palace and smiled at some of the guards. She'd spent a while in th fire nation, so they all knew who she was and not to mess with her. Especially the imperial fire benders.
"So where's old sparky, off in a meeting somewhere trying to reconstruct the broken planets and cover up the sins of his forefathers."

Aang shrugged. "No idea. He's gotta be somewhere in the fire nation, he'll show up if he's not in here." He said, peeking down the hallways of the palace. He didn't know which way to go. Right, left, or stairs? He decided it was better if Toph lead since she had been here more times than he had. "Hey, Zuko! You in here?" He asked, following Toph. His eyes wandered over the various expensive looking objects. Like the vase that looked like it had been made of pure gold and the paintings that were bigger than him, not that he was the biggest person in the world but...He'd grown plenty since the last time he'd seen this place.
"I guess we just wait until he shows up then?" He asked. "Or we can ask one of the guards."

"He's in the palace." She said, turning her head, putting her hand on one of the walls and staying still for a moment. "This way." She said, starting to walk down one of the hallways. "Come on." She grabbed his hand and started walking again. It'd be sorta like him to get lost following her or pulled into the spirit world or some other crazy Avatar bullshit. The palace was much larger than it looked from outside, and it was pretty huge on the outside. Not to mention it had a good deal of secret passages, escape routes, and there was another hidden bunker aside from the one they broke into on the day of black sun.
"We'll just go find him, I don't wait for people to appease me." She added, still dragging him gently, not even noticing she was still holding his hand. "Besides, I used up all that stupid ointment already and my side is starting to hurt again. I want more of it or something that would act as a pretty good substitute."

Aang continued to follow her, glancing from side to side. The entire hall was covered in paintings, he didn't know where to start looking. Glancing at her, he laughed slightly. "Yeah, but maybe he's doing something important that we shouldn't interrupt, like talking to someone." He said.
Looking at her side when she mentioned it, he blinked. "I didn't ask the doctor for more ointment before we left. Sorry, I forgot to. We were in a hurry. Maybe I can get him to send some? With the war over, the mail ships have been restored." He looked behind him, watching the beginning of the hallway disappear as they walked further. "I still have to pay him too...Maybe he'll send me more if I send some extra money his way." He mused, thinking out loud.

"What's more important than the avatar and the greatest earth bender in the world? Besides, if he's in a meeting I'll know by the amount of people in the room. I have better hearing then you do and I'm not limited by doors and wells." She told him as she walked down one of the halls and turned down another. The palace itself, although massive, had a complicated movement system which did well to confuse those who hadn't been there, making locating things much more difficult than walking to the largest room on the left. Many of the rooms were large and had extravagant doors which were false throne and bedrooms. The entire structure was intimidating, but the layout certainly didn't help.
"Well I doubt he'd have given you more considering you didn't pay him, idiot." She sighed. "You could have told me that and I could have gambled us some. It's why I never run out of money." That or he just forgot to pay him, but considering he had no worldly possessions, she doubted that he had vast amounts of money on him at all times. "We might be able to get more. I'm sure there's enough in the tube he gave me for a doctor here to figure out what's in it and remake it. If we don't get any more, it's not a big deal, I'll just have scars, which doesn't bother me."
