Aang looked over at her, surprised to seeher there. "Hey," he said, closing the book he had been reading and putting it down on the nightstand beside his bed. Hs roomate was gone at the moment, allowing for them to be alone. "Yeah, I assumed that was why you broke into my dorm," he joked, sitting up. "Are we planning something else?" he asked, excited. He wondered what else she had in mind.

Toph nodded. "Katara plans to go to that party this weekend that the guy from the fire dorms is hosting." She sat down on his bed beside him. "You're going to go and you're going to impress her. I'm going to see if I can get Zuko to bring you shopping to pick out something more upscale than you usually wear. And everyday this week we're going to work on your repeating everything I saw exactly how I say it. It'll help you be able to keep up with Katara in a conversation."
- epic shit -
It had been three weeks. Overall, Aang was a fast learner and Toph was impressed. Katara was calling and texting him constantly and was more interested in him than Zuko.
Jet sat down in chem lab. They were supposed to be making some kind of toxin that would melt through cells in order to see what they were. Sighing, he leaned back in his stool. His lap partner was Suyin, some girl that he hadn't really talked to. This was their first real lab so they'd only really said hi and other generic things.

Aang ran over to Toph, who was sitting in her seat in their shared English class, and grinned. He looked back at his phone, rereading the text message. Luckily, the teacher was out of the room and didn't see it. "Katara wants me to come to the football game with her!" He said, smiling. "I can't believe it, she actually wants to hang out with me," he said, sitting down next to her and shoving his phone into his pocket. "This is great, you really helped a lot. I think she's really starting to like me now."
Suyin made her way into the classroom, settling herself down in the seat that had been assigned to her the previous day. It was only the third or so day of school, and although there were a few people in the class that she recognized, most of them were new faces. Then again, this school had always been big so it wasn't surprising. Her gold eyes wandered to the boy next to her, having seen him before quite a few times. His name was Jet, and she was pretty sure he had been in her gym class the previous year. "Hey," she said, casually, moving to rest her feet on the bottom of the stool as she waited for the teacher to show up.

Toph smiled at him. "Yeah, I know she likes you. She called me last night to tell you that she wanted to go to the football game with you. Then she said how much your fashion sense has improved. That means we have to keep this up and get you something for the football game." She leaned back against her desk. 'This class bores me... I hate English. Books have never done it for me, why can't they just let me skip it."
"Hey." Jet repeated, offering her a small smile. He didn't know her all that well, but he was pretty sure she was from the Fire bender. But he didn't want to start a fight with her because it was a waste of his time and a sure fire way to get him sent to the office. This school wasn't as accepting to those who were unable to bend - unless of course they were rich. Which of course, Jet was not. "What're we doing today exactly? Besides melting through the membranes of plant cellls?"

Aang smiled. "Great," he said, reaching through his bag for his notebook and pencil because the teacher was coming in and had told them they'd be taking notes for the first few minutes of class today. He leaned closer to Toph. "Do you think she'll invite me to something even better than a football game? Like maybe a party or something?" he asked, excited. He opened his notebook, not folding it over. Instead he left it open, a sheet of paper on each side so he could take notes for the two of them. Even though she couldn't read them herself, she could have someone else read them to her later.
Suyin glanced at the door as the teacher walked in. "I'm not exactly sure, she didn't explain much." She said, folding her arms over the table.
"Alright you little turds, I had a rough night last night so I don't want anyone raising their voice above an inside voice. Got that? Anyway. Your assignment, well you already know it. After you finish it, I want you and your partner to write up a short, one page essay on your discoveries. On another sheet of paper write down your procedure as you do the lab, tell me exactly how you broke down the cell walls. Just like how I slowly broke down my husband until he finally left me for a 20 year old skank." She sighed and sat down at her desk, placing her fingers over her temples. "I need another beer..."
Suyin watched her for a moment, contemplating whether she should be concerned or not. "Okay..." she said after awhile, turning back to look at him. She reached for a few sheets of paper. There were tools on the table, as well as an instructions sheet.

Toph laughed. "You worry too much. Trust me, as long as you do what I tell you and keep you your classy attire we should be fine." Thus far Toph had bought all of the expensive clothes he'd bought in the passed few days. He'd bought the lesser expensive ones and she was okay with it. If this got Katara to shut the fuck up then it worked for her. "If things go well at the game, then yes. I know what she wants you to wear, and what she wants you to do."
The English teacher entered. "Alright, English." He stated slowly. "Is the language all of you little shits speak. Therefore I want you to take good notes on my lecture today, because I'm going to assign you a project at the end. Alright, so here's how this is gonna go down." Yes, their english teacher was using slang. "You all are gonna take notes on people who speak five different ways. It can be for ethical reasons, regions, or other such ways. I want you to take notice of what they say differently, why, and other such things."
Jet watched the teacher. Wow... well that was quite the shitty turn of events. Looks like if they fucked up and made a deadly acid they were on their own. As long as they followed directions, that shouldn't happen... Right? "Okay." he turned to Suyin. "Do you want to write this up and I'll type it up to pass it in? I have really scratchy writing and I don't know if we'll be able to read it afterward." He said, laughing slightly.

Aang smiled. He already liked this guy. At least he wasn't as boring as the previous English teacher he had had. Sifu Zhao, who was a complete and utter douchebag most of the time, had challenged a student to an Agni Kai. A student who wasn't a firebender at all. Quickly, he began jotting down a few things that seemed important on both pieces of paper. "I can feel it, this guys going to be a cool teacher," he whispered to Toph before he raised his hand. "Hey, are we going to get any fun projects in here?"
Suyin took out a pen and clicked it. She gave a nod and sat the paper down so it was in front of her, writing both of their names at the top. "Alright, let's get started," she said, reaching over and sliding the tray of materials between them. "What's it say to do first?" She asked, glancing over at him because he had the sheet of instructions. This all didn't seem too hard considering they had something to guide them. A one page essay was simple, and so was a lab procedure sheet, but somehow she knew that because the teacher was probably hung over - or still drunk - that they'd probably run into a few difficulties.

The man looked at them and nodded. "As a matter of fact, I'm glad you asked that question!" He said, nodding. He pulled the map of the world that was blocking the board and it flew up. On the board was a picture of a map. "You will have to write a paper about a story from another nation. And no, it can't be a book story. Sure literature of helpful and everything, but before we had written words, we had SPOKEN words! I want you to find a story or tradition that was passed on orally from a nation that you don't live in and haven't spent a lot of time in. I also want you to learn this story from one of your classmates. I will pick your partners if I have to, or you can pick on your own and make some new friends."
Jet picked up the instruction sheet and read it over quickly so he was somewhat familiar with it. "It says take the blue serum and poor 45 mL into a beaker and then slowly add 22 mL of the pink one until it gets frothy. it also cautions you not to put too much." He grabbed a beaker and put it down in front of them. He picked up a graduated cylinder. "Do you want me to pour it and you can say when to stop? I have a steady hand."

Aang beamed with excitement. Unlike a lot of kids, he actually enjoyed projects so long as they were fun. School didn't bother him much. To be honest, he liked it. He never did understand why so many of his classmates complained about it. School meant friends, and Aang liked friends. "Wanna work together?" Aang asked, leaning over the space between his and Toph's desks. "I won't take no for an answer."
Suyin smiled. "Yeah, go ahead," she said, scribbling something down on the sheet of paper. She held her pen between her fingers as she watched him pour the liquid, giving him a signal when it was near enough so he could stop in time. She watched as the liquid became frothy, rising before it settled back down again. Lifting her pen again, she recorded their steps and results. "Alright, what's it say to do next?" she asked, glancing at the white sheet of paper that was near him.

Toph smirked. "Oh there was any doubt that we were going to work together? We do so well together don't you think?" They'd tricked Katara into liking someone she thought was a super nerd. How much more skilled could you get?
Jet poured the liquid to measure it, holding his wrist to keep it steady. he wasn't sure what this stuff could do if there was too much of it, and considering it looked like their teacher was sleeping or crying, he didn't want to risk it. He then rinsed it out and poured the other liquid tot he correct measurement and added it into the beaker. It frothed almost instantly and small wisps came out of the beaker. "Take 30 mL of the orange liquid and pour the entire thing quickly. Be sure your goggles are on before doing so, and record the action."
Just as Jet read this from the paper, someone on the other side of the room screamed and something made a loud explosion and the room filled with smoke before it floated out the windows. "Congratulations Sokka." Jet said, laughing, washing out his graduated cylinder to measure the orange liquid and made sure that his goggles were on properly. He leaned his chest back when he poured the orange liquid into the rest of the serum.

Aang smirked. "Of course, and since we're from different countries, we could share what we know about the places we were born in. I have a lot of Air Nomad stories and traditions, and I know you have a lot from the Earth Kingdom too, right?" he asked, smiling. He knew they were going to get a good grade on this, he could just feel it. With the two of them paired together, there was no way they could lose.
Suyin twisted her head in the direction of the ones responsible for the explosion, holding back a laugh. When the smoke finally cleared, she looked back at their project, moving a strand of hair that had been blown aside by the explosion. "At least we know what to avoid now," she said, blowing at the smoke that still lingered.
A bloodcurdling scream erupted from the teacher's desk as the explosion happened. "SOKKA! I've had you for two and a half days and I ALREADY CAN'T STAND YOU! Are you incapable of reading SIMPLE directions, you moron?!" she yelled, throwing a chemistry textbook at him. "From now on, let your lab partner do all of the chemical mixing! JESUS! I hate kids, why did I ever become a teacher? I wanted to be a doctor like my perfect brother, but nooo. I had to be a TEACHER. And apparently so bad of one because my own husband left me!" She yelled and fell to the ground in a fit of sobs.

Toph nodded. "Well to be honest Twinkle toes, all I really know are oral stories." She said, laughing softly. "It's not like I can read them or anything." Normally Toph had audio versions of their textbooks, or she had a student teacher or aid read it to her. However, she hated the special attention so she'd usually just buy the audio copy. "Then we can both get a killer grade on this project!"
Jet was smiling. He loved it when Sokka hurt himself. They'd known one another since Middle school and Jet didn't like him. They were both non-benders but Sokka seemed to think he was better than everyone else, despite his horrendous lack of skill. Jet on the other hand was a skilled martial artist, was in three clubs, and did well in all his classes. If he didn't, he'd lose the scholarships he had, and that was the only way he could come here.
Their teacher wasn't in the best mood, so Jet did the best to stifle his laughter. They added the correct amount and the liquid stopped frothing and instead turned a bright green. The next instruction was to hold a lighter above the container, but NOT to put it inside. Looking at Suyin, he shifted on his stool. "You're... a fire bender right? Do you want to do the honors?"

Aang smiled. "Well, that's great then," he said, looking over at her. "And you're definitely right about that. This project is going to be super easy, since I like learning new stories and traditions. I can ask some of the elder air nomads for some more stories too. I bet there are more than I don't know, ones older than the ones that I do know about," he said, looking down at the paper on his desk. He began to jot down a few things, names of some of the stories he had been told so he could remember the names later.
Suyin looked back at Jet when he spoke up, catching her attention. She nodded, extending her finger over the beaker and lighting a small flame just a centimeter or so above her pointer finger, similar to a torch though much smaller. She leaned forward onto her other hand, watching as the liquid began to warm, changing from bright green to a very pale green. "Tell me when it's enough," she said, unsure of when they were supposed to stop warming it.

Toph rolled her eyes. "Yeah, but you're like that with everything. You act like you're from all the nations and none of the other Air benders act like you. You're just the weirdo outcast of them." She teased, smiling at him. Despite that, a lot of the teachers, from all the houses, grades and classes liked Aang. It was strange. He was like the favorite of the school and had been since last year. Then again, he was light hearted and sweet. It wasn't that surprising. "Okay, so you need to run to the mall with Zuko again today. I'll give you money to buy the outfit I want you to wear, and I'll take care of everything else, okay?"
Jet watched the beaker change color and looked back at the directions. "It says for three minutes." he looked up at the clock and continued to wait. They were supposed to be recording the changes, but all that happened so far as that the color had changed. Then, after waiting about three minutes, the blue serum turned blue and expanded. When the flame was removed, it faded, turning redish orange like fire.
That... was actually really cool. Looking down at the paper, Jet read "After recording the changes, add 24 mL of the white liquid and cool with a small burst of liquid nitrogen. Use protective gear." Jet measured the liquid and poured it inside. Taking the small bottle they had with liquid nitrogen, he screwed the top on and sprayed it. After a quick haze, the liquid rapidly froze and thawed. As it thawed, it turned clear, like water.

Aang smiled. "I like being the outcast. I have friends from all of the nations that way. You, Sokka, Katara, Zuko, and a lot of others too." He said, smiling and closing his binder. He nodded. "Yeah, that sounds good. It's still really hard to believe that she wants to hang out alone with me," he said, smiling and spinning his pen with his fingers. "So, is Zuko in on this too or what? He seems to be helping us a lot, I have the feeling that he knows what we're trying to accomplish here."
Suyin watched closely as the liquid changed colors and form, making sure she caught everything so she could write it down with the hand that wasn't above the beaker. When the time to remove her finger came around, she pulled it back, sitting up straight in her chair again. As the experiment progressed, she began to become more interested. Okay, so it was really cool. "Wow," she mumbled, to no one in particular. When it was finished thawing it, she wrote down what it looked like before and after in great detail to make their writing assignment easier. "Are we done?" she asked, eyes scanning over the instructions.
